Upon hearing the call, Leo Ray immediately moved toward Fanny's position. She was standing on the poop deck at the stern, where the elevation was slightly higher than the rest of the ship.
As he arrived, an abandoned stretch of farmland came into Leo Ray's view.
This entire plot of land was situated atop a massive, flat vessel. The ship was considerably lower than their current vantage point, and it was only by standing on this higher ground that one could see the whole area at once.
"Your Majesty of the Humans, it looks just like a giant flower pot floating on the sea."
Fanny flapped her wings and expressed her confusion to Leo Ray: "Your Majesty of the Humans, why would someone move these onto a ship? It's simply mind-boggling."
"It appears that this cluster of countless vessels is more akin to a city. Since there is farmland, it is only natural that residents once lived here."
Leo Ray observed the withered, cracked wasteland and nodded thoughtfully: "Perhaps calling it the City of a Thousand Ships would be more appropriate."
The surrounding powerhouses nodded in agreement after hearing Leo Ray's assessment.
The Your Majesty of the Humans was correct. Whether it was the barren fields or other lingering traces, it was evident that this place had once been teeming with life, serving as a vast residential zone.
However, judging by the thick layer of dust coating the deck, these events must have taken place hundreds, if not thousands, of years in the past.
"But Lord, why would someone build such a peculiar place in the Barrier Area to live?"
Xiao Jing tilted her head, her expression full of bewilderment.
"That remains unknown, but it is clear that this area is incredibly vast and capable of holding a large population."
Leo Ray stared into the distance; within this boundless City of a Thousand Ships, he could still make out faint outlines of parched land on other vessels, with many withered trees still standing among them.
"Your Majesty, the passage into the ship is here!"
Not far from the poop deck, Bruno respectfully beckoned Leo Ray. Among the gathered powerhouses, his tall, sturdy frame and pair of horns made him particularly easy to spot.
"Let's go over there."
Leo Ray gave a nod to Fanny and the others before setting off once more.
Upon reaching Bruno's location, Leo Ray saw a staircase entrance that descended into the dark depths of the ship. Magic spheres flickered below, and fresh footprints indicated that their powerhouses were already inside exploring.
"Your Majesty, we've already investigated carefully. Although there are many entrances here, only this one leads to the depths of the ship. The others are all closed spaces, much like small dwellings."
Bruno saluted with a hand over his chest and reported to Leo Ray: "Lord Clan Leader of the Wood Fairy Clan is leading their powerhouses further in exploration inside."
"Understood, let's head down as well."
Leo Ray nodded slightly. After assigning a team of powerhouses to secure the entrance, he led the remaining group into the passage.
The group moved through a relatively long and narrow staircase before the view suddenly expanded.
As the magic spheres illuminated the area, Leo Ray's eyes widened at the sight before him.
The space was even more massive than he had anticipated, resembling an underground square that nearly stretched out of sight. It clearly went far beyond the dimensions of a single ship's hold.
"Your Majesty of the Humans, we have initially investigated. This area connects at least ten giant ship holds, each joint tightly sealed with extremely meticulous waterproofing. It's indeed an astonishing grand project."
Crisis flew toward Leo Ray, her voice filled with awe: "As for the function of this area, according to my guess, it should be a ritual site."
Listening to the words of Crisis, Leo Ray walked slowly forward.
Just as she described, the central area was wide and empty, dominated by a massive statue of a powerful centaur warrior. The figure held a longbow, aiming it directly at the sky.
In front of the centaur statue stood a mottled altar, its surface so thick with dust that it appeared entirely gray.
"Are the owners here actually centaurs?"
Shuert's aged wooden form seemed lost in thought before he questioned: "But logically speaking, centaurs live for generations in forests and plains far from the sea. How could they build such a City of a Thousand Ships?"
"It is indeed quite strange. From what I know, centaurs aren't creatures inclined to drift on the sea. They naturally prefer galloping across vast landscapes, and the limited space on a ship would certainly be a great constraint for them."
Broy's brow furrowed in confusion: "It's as if the Winged Race willingly caged themselves in a birdcage."
Following Broy's remark, the other powerhouses looked on with puzzled expressions, clearly sharing the same doubts.
"Let's continue exploring. Perhaps there are secrets here that we haven't uncovered yet."
Leo Ray waved his hand, giving instructions to the group.
Before long, Xiao Jing's excited voice rang out: "Lord, come quickly and see!"
Arriving at Xiao Jing's side, Leo Ray saw that she was standing directly behind the centaur statue at the far end of the square.
