Morok activates his darkness-based Arc to confront Zargos, as the muscular man readies his golden flames for battle. In the basement, tremors from the clash above alert Adam and Merra, who prepare for intruders. Two Sword Squad Lords burst through the gates, attacking Merra to reach Adam; she defends with barriers and daggers, sustaining injuries but stabbing one assailant fatally after Adam's spectral blades distract him. As the remaining girl unleashes deadly water streams on the downed Merra, a powerful fist crashes through the ceiling, pinning her to the ground.

Merra was trapped in a perilous bind. Only Adam's assault on the youth with his ghostly blades had given her the chance to strike and eliminate him.

Yet, they lacked any remaining aces to counter the female adversary. Adam moved too sluggishly and lacked sufficient might, while Merra remained helpless due to the liquid restraints encircling her form.

In truth, had Merra encountered this peril in any other location, her demise would have been inevitable. No aid would have arrived, and none could have intervened swiftly enough.

Absent two key elements, one positioned somewhat distant from the underground chamber, Merra's fate would have been sealed.

...

BOOM!

The scarlet explosion hurled the burly male and female away. Their aureate blaze and electric strikes aimed to shred Zargos's inferno, yet they fell short of the required force.

'Damn! How is he this powerful? What's the source of his endless stamina?' The female ejected a glob of blood. This marked her third injury within a mere minute of combat.

The burly male examined the scorch mark on his shoulder and gave a composed nod.

'Indeed. He's grown considerably stronger of late. All thanks to Adam Vinter, right?' He fixed his gaze on Zargos.

Before Zargos could reply, Morok advanced with a threatening gait.

Shadow trailed in his wake, charred by Zargos's blaze yet eager to reclaim its prior splendor.

He spoke in Zargos's stead.

'Naturally. That's precisely why he rescued him—to allow his evolution.'

However, Zargos had no patience for banter. He was managing the trio solo, and Morok posed no real threat to him.

Nevertheless, a profound scowl etched his features. Over a minute had elapsed, and none of them had fallen to him yet.

'Damn, I figured it'd take just 30 seconds max. If I don't finish them off immediately, Merra could be lost! To hell with it!'

Shudder!

Zargos's presence surged violently, compelling Morok, the male, and the female to retreat. They were unaware of his impending move, but his pyre was undeniably hazardous.

Just as Zargos prepared to act, an occurrence seized his focus, along with that of the others.

'Ugh?'

The female swallowed hard.

'What in the world?!'

The once-vibrant, sunlit heavens of the vital forest had dimmed, as an entity induced the whole realm to quake.

Quake. Quake. Quake.

Instantly, a meteor cloaked in violet, ragged fire that warped the surrounding void, pierced the clouds akin to a shadowy celestial body hurtling directly at Zargos's dwelling.

'Crap...' Zargos whispered, fully aware of the impending doom.

Unhindered, the meteor shattered the sturdy rock strata, and even rune-warded barriers failed to impede it. Its might was ruinous, and the gravest detail was Zargos's recognition of its origin.

He shot a look at Morok and his companions.

'Listen, don't mistake this for arrogance, but if I were you, I'd flee as far as possible.'

Morok's brow furrowed. He sensed their predicament had deteriorated, but not the extent of it.

...

Footfall.

Stunned, Merra retreated a pace. She hadn't grasped that rescue had come. Her actions stemmed from pure reflex.

'Huh... Huh... Huh...'

Merra panted raggedly as the haze of debris gradually dissipated.

'Gah!' The female hacked up a lump of blood, grinding her teeth. 'What the heck? Release me, you scum!'

Adam blinked repeatedly, hardly believing his eyes.

He regarded the lady with lengthy scarlet locks cascading past her shoulders like a raging blaze, possessing golden eyes and a toned, slender physique brimming with vigor.

From afar, she echoed Zargos, particularly in her angular facial traits, only...

'She's like his feminine counterpart, far more formidable and stern,' he mused, which rang quite true.

The lady turned to Merra.

'You alright?'

'Y-Yeah,' Merra replied shakily, nodding.

'Now for you.' The lady eyed the female. 'Who in blazes are you, insect?'

The female looked upward, summoning aqueous flows to assail the lady.

'Tch, like I'd reveal that to you?'

The lady showed no response, seizing the female's left limb instead.

'Ugh?'

Terror flashed in her gaze.

Snap!

With a swift twist, the lady severed the female's arm. She flung it at the barrier with such velocity that it burst into gory fragments.

'I'll inquire once more. Who are you?' Her tone deepened.

The female stood frozen in disbelief, delaying a heartbeat. To the lady, that was excessive, as she lunged for the female's visage.

'Hold on, hold on!'

The lady pressed on without emotion, extracting the female's right orb and pulverizing it within her grasp.

'F**K! Y-You! Alright! We're from the Sword Squad! Morok's our leader! We came for him!'

She shrieked, directing her glare at Adam.

'We're targeting Adam Vinter! That jerk! We need to seize or eliminate him!'

She'd divulged plenty, yet pressed on, driven by dread or fury.

'That scum Zargos! He's just complicated matters! Damn it!'

The lady inclined her head, extending her palm over the female.

'Understood. That suffices.'

Before relief could grace the female's expression, an oppressive weight bore down.

Faint violet ripples pulsed from the lady's hand, successively morphing into upright energy shards that rent the fabric of reality.

QUAKE!

An unseen power slammed the female to the floor. The colossal burden prevented her from raising her head.

'Hold up...' Adam pondered inwardly. 'She won't cease?'

'STOOOP!'

The female's wail reverberated prior to the gravitational force pulverizing her, reducing her to a crimson smear and scattered meat remnants.

The lady remained unmoved, despite blood splattering half her countenance.

She rose and strode beyond Merra, who lacked the vigor to stand.

Stride. Stride. Stride.

With every footfall, the intensity mounted the moment she loomed above Adam.

'Hey, you're—!'

Ere he could utter more, the lady clutched his throat and hoisted him aloft.

'Adam Vinter?'

Her hold constricted.

'I eliminate anyone who brings strife to my kin. Are you aware?'

In that instant, Adam recalled Zargos's mentions of his sibling.

Presently, he faced a truly dire bind.
