Endless Evolution: Last Star Chapter 1557: Eternal Cold (Part 1)

Previously on Endless Evolution: Last Star...
Adam and Alexia arrived at the Frost Oasis, guided by the Winding Fragments in pursuit of their Third Grand Star conditions, with Adam convinced that Vaarh's blood held the key to his Blood of God requirement. To his shock, his energy revealed no direct link to Vaarh, pointing instead to the battlefield itself and leaving him uncertain whether the Highest Bliss or Bottomless Void awaited him. In a tense exchange, Adam confided his confusion to Vaarh, who offered stoic advice amid Alexia's frustration, before summoning swirling winds and dark storm clouds to elevate himself and charge his spear with lightning, signaling an impending clash.

The Iron.

Up until now, Vaarh had only revealed that element, plus some fierce claw strikes from his iron-made talons, matching the material of his spear.

Though Adam and Alexia remained uncertain about the full extent of their foe's powers, every move Vaarh made revealed he wasn't confined to a single element, unlike typical monsters.

His companion was the gray wind, and the white lightning had now joined forces with him too.

Rumble. Rumble. Rumble.

Thunder's roar boomed through the heavens while Vaarh's spear crackled with white lightning.

His eyes held no mercy as Vaarh targeted Adam with his spear, the latter still reeling from the previous assault.

Vaarch's motive for targeting Adam was straightforward.

By eliminating Adam immediately, before he could devise a plan, Vaarh would face Alexia alone in a one-on-one duel. In such a scenario, defeat seemed impossible to him.

"ADAM!" Alexia cried out, white mist swirling around her form.

A massive ice axe materialized overhead just in time to intercept the thunderbolt headed for Adam, designed solely to take the brunt of the white lightning's force.

Crack. Crack. Crack.

As Adam leaped away at the final second, the ice axe broke apart into shards.

Snow surged in waves from the thunder's impact, carving a profound pit into the earth.

"Shit, that was powerful!" Adam shouted, gazing up at the imposing figure of Vaarh looming grandly over them.

Vaarch hadn't hurled his spear; he merely directed it toward the mark, summoning the white lightning to obey.

Alexia frantically scanned left and right in alarm.

With the adversary at such a distance, she lacked any effective means to counter. Her skills simply didn't suit the situation.

Of course, she might attempt launching ice weapons toward Vaarh or bounding over energy platforms to close the gap, yet even for a bold Phantom like her, it proved far too dangerous and futile.

She hesitated for too much time.

Storm energy surged into Vaarh's spear once more, his aim locked straight on Adam.

Yet on this occasion, Adam refused to evade.

He remained clueless about fulfilling any required condition or even what it entailed.

However, that concern took a backseat now.

'Why bother with whatever challenge lies ahead if his following strike reduces me to ashes?!'

White gloves enveloped his fists, and a white spear materialized in his grasp.

'No dodging required. Shattering his spear with my own will suffice!'

Whooooooooosh.

Adam launched the white spear directly at the lightning bolt. Both white streaks matched in velocity, smashing together halfway.

A dazzling glare raced over the frost ridge, trailed by a fierce blast of raw fire.

Gusts of wind scattered outward, yet Vaarh's piercing stare stayed steadfast.

Evidently, he anticipated Adam countering his strike. Furthermore, Vaarh sensed the tide turning against him in this fight.

'Unleashing lightning drains vast reserves of my energy. Meanwhile, he summons his spear with effortless ease, like a mere flick. Hmm...'

His eyes scanned the vast snowy field, noting the dormant monsters scattered across the battleground and peaks.

'To secure triumph, a shift in tactics is essential.'

Vaarch gestured with his hand, redirecting the thunder's path. Rather than striking Adam and Alexia, the bolts now hammered the borders of Frost Ridge.

Bam! Bam! Bam!

Each hit made the monsters shudder, compelling them inward toward the core.

Through these maneuvers, Vaarh compressed the combat zone into a ring. His lightning strikes artfully avoided every creature—intentionally so.

He aimed not to slay or harm them; his sole intent was to exploit them for his ends. That was all.

Suddenly, quiet descended.

The thunderbolts halted, though Vaarh swiftly advanced to his subsequent plan.

Tremble. Tremble. Tremble.

His aura quivered while a pair of grand energy wings extended from his back, vast enough to draw every monster's focus without fail.

Wolves, beasts, lizards, snow bulls, and countless others fixed their gazes on Vaarh, compelled to heed him.

He uttered not a word. He understood words were unnecessary.

All it took was aiming his spear at Adam.

That sufficed.

The monsters were unaware of the consequences for defying the command.

Would obedience bring rewards, or would Vaarh's thunderous fury descend upon them?

Risking it held no appeal.

Regardless of Adam's prowess, facing hordes of Black Threat Monsters left him no shot. Though he might fell dozens or even a hundred, exhaustion would claim him eventually, allowing the beasts to rip him apart.

"Grh!"

"RGH!"

"Rark!"

Fierce snarls erupted from every direction, widening Adam's eyes in shock.

Before comprehension dawned, swarms of dark forms lunged at him. Fear propelled some, while others sought to impress Vaarh with their valor.

Such details were irrelevant, for Vaarh had succeeded—every monster drawn here post-barrier collapse now assaulted Adam.

"ADAM!" Alexia shouted, materializing in front of him amid a chilling wind burst.

Whoooooosh.

The ice sword hurled the initial monster surge backward, yet not one perished. Alexia merely granted Adam a brief respite.

Clang!

Alexia spun about, her eyes bulging. Adam's needle clashed against the snow beast's teeth, igniting sparks everywhere.

From the flank, two white wolves advanced, their claws scraping into the iced terrain.

The monster numbers overwhelmed, preventing Alexia from repelling them all from Adam.

'Louis, we need to act immediately!' she urged in her mind.

Louis nodded firmly without delay, channeling his full energy into Alexia.

Her eyes gleamed intensely, faint traces of an emerging force lurking in the shadows.

The moment had arrived to unveil the might of Ancient Frost, the ability bestowed upon her.
