Endless Evolution: Last Star Chapter 1553: Iron Spear

Previously on Endless Evolution: Last Star...
Vaarh, creator of the Frost Oasis, emerged as the final trial for Adam and Alexia, having forged a powerful new body from the energies of slain monsters and Phantoms, and wielded a spear crafted from his old form. Wary of his superior aura, Adam and Alexia planned for her to strike first, aiming to draw his blood and trigger Adam's evolution. Vaarh initiated the battle with a sweeping wind blade that Adam barely dodged, while Alexia's mist-infused punch phased through his defense, inflicting minor cuts and prompting him to counter with iron claws that shattered her ice spears and seized her arm. As Vaarh raised his spear to strike, a massive ice worm erupted from the earth, its jaws poised to devour them all.

Va arh had chosen to dismantle every obstacle himself, so in a way, he had no one to fault but his own decisions for the chaos unfolding now.

Those ice worms ranked as formidable beasts, likely the deadliest threat in Frost Ridge, thanks to their enormous bulk and fearsome maws.

Yet, true to form, Vaarh aimed to exploit the predicament to its maximum potential.

He clenched Alexia’s wrist with greater force and hurled her out of the way. Right behind her, the ice worm’s gaping jaws loomed wide.

Va arh maintained a composed expression, giving a subtle nod as he prepared to sidestep and evade the ice worm’s charge, yet an odd impulse drew his gaze back toward Alexia.

"What?" Vaarh whispered under his breath.

Without warning, Alexia flashed a wild smile, not the smirk of a cunning schemer, but the feral grin of someone unhinged and desperate for any edge.

"Gha..."

She drew in a sharp breath while swirling white mist enveloped both her and Vaarh, her eyes locking onto the elongated form made of countless segments.

Clang!

Before Vaarh could even process it, a sturdy frozen chain coiled around his torso, its ends clutched securely in Alexia’s hands.

’NO!’

Va arh’s eyes bulged as understanding hit him, but the moment had already passed. Alexia yanked the chains hard, and instantly, their positions flipped.

She flung him directly into the ice worm’s waiting jaws and used the force to propel herself aside, dodging a crash into the colossal creature.

Standing off to the side, Adam swallowed hard. He found himself admiring Alexia’s bold maneuver.

’Huh, so occasionally she can think straight and show some cleverness, instead of just charging in like a savage animal, huh?’

CLASP!

A resounding crash echoed as the ice worm snapped its jaws shut, ensnaring Vaarh within.

Alexia and Adam shared a quick look while the ice worm barreled forward, shattering the cavern. Though not deliberate, its immense frame dislodged boulders and crumbled layers of rock overhead.

In mere seconds, a massive ceiling panel gave way, allowing beams of sunlight to pour through the fresh breach above.

Over a hundred meters still separated them from the surface, yet that sufficed for initial snow clumps to tumble from the rims, eventually piling up near Adam’s boots.

This fleeting distraction pulled their focus from the ice worm, which continued its frenzy and began ascending soon after.

It appeared the ice worm had grown weary of toying with its catch. At this point, the beast sought to exit the tunnels and retreat somewhere secluded to digest Vaarh’s essence.

Still, Vaarh refused to accept such a pathetic end after all his trials and triumphs.

Countless unknowns plagued this realm, but one truth stood firm for him:

He wasn’t the victim; he was the predator. He vowed to push every limit to claim the ultimate dominance.

Thump. Thump. Thump.

A violent shudder coursed through the ice worm’s frame as its abdomen bulged in various spots, like multiple blasts erupting within.

Suddenly, a pale streak etched across the murky gray hide as Vaarh unleashed another spear thrust.

His next strike ripped through the ice worm’s underbelly, unleashing a torrent of blood.

Fury blazed across his features. It wasn’t aimed at Alexia for shoving him into the beast’s mouth, but at the ice worm itself for presuming it could swallow him whole.

To Vaarh, this affront demanded retribution, and he couldn’t hold back.

"I brought you into this fight, and you believe you can challenge me?" Vaarh snarled through clenched teeth. "You won’t get away—this spot becomes your tomb!"

Tremble. Tremble. Tremble.

A potent dark gray energy erupted from Vaarh, his gaze igniting with a sharp, metallic glint.

Battle boots materialized on his legs, echoing Alexia’s style, with power surging through their etched grooves like molten metal in a forge.

Then, Vaarh disappeared from sight.

Adam and Alexia strained to track his blur.

In a streak of white, Vaarh dashed the length of the ice worm’s form, driving his spear deeply into its vulnerable tissue.

Trails of inky blood marked his path as he gutted the enormous worm, much like a trophy felled by an expert slayer.

Having battled an ice worm previously, Adam and Alexia understood these creatures boasted remarkable resilience and could seal injuries on the fly.

The ice worm followed suit. Before excessive bleeding, it flexed its sinews and channeled its power, drawing the wound’s borders together.

Vaarh ignored this entirely, focused solely on attaining the beast’s skull, which he accomplished in a flash.

Whoooooooooosh.

Propelled at breakneck pace, Vaarh soared skyward, briefly surpassing the ice worm’s height. A broad tear scarred the creature’s mandible, though Vaarh failed to sever its cranium in one blow.

"Planning to flee?"

Va arh’s words reverberated against the cavern walls as he lingered by the exit to the outside.

"From the instant you targeted me, escape became impossible. Your existence terminates right here!"

These weren’t mere boasts—a fresh surge of power exploded from Vaarh’s form.

GRRRHOOOOOOO!!!

The ice worm bellowed, coiling its colossal frame for a final sprint toward the surface, brushing Vaarh aside in the process.

In this clash, speed and superior strike would determine the victor.

Va arh had made his move already.

"What the..."

Adam’s tone quivered as his vision captured the gray aura radiating from Vaarh, expanding like the blaze of a forged solar inferno.

For an instant, he discerned within Vaarh’s aura the silhouette of vast wings, fitting only for an ancient dragon that had roamed this plane for centuries.

Clutch.

Va arh seized his spear with unyielding hold, its point shimmering in brilliant white from his infused might.

Just as the ice worm closed in on Vaarh, he launched the spear directly at the fiend.

Whoooooooooosh.

At blinding velocity, the metal lance impaled the ice worm’s full length like a bolt from the heavens, shredding the elongated titan apart through raw might.
