Endless Evolution: Last Star Chapter 1550: Questions to a dragon

Previously on Endless Evolution: Last Star...
As external threats loomed toward the Frost Oasis, the true drama unfolded in the final cave by the pond, where the ancient egg cracked open. A towering figure emerged—a slim, athletic man with long blue hair, azure eyes, and subtle scales, introducing himself as Vaarh, the Azure Eye, who had orchestrated the trials through a contract with the Ancient Voice. He revealed the azure tree as a mere seal on the barrier, its destruction a calculated risk to confront Adam and Alexia directly, believing their power at the World Wipe's end would fuel his evolution. The massive dragon head nearby, he confirmed, was his former body.

Vaarrh left Adam and Alexia utterly bewildered. At the conclusion of the Frost Oasis, they anticipated all sorts of surprises, yet never a dragon beast disguised as a human, freshly hatched from an egg amid a radiant pool!

Still, this was the harsh truth they faced, forcing them to adjust swiftly unless they wished to be shredded apart by Vaarh.

Indeed, upon Vaarh's emergence, they figured the dragon skull formed an integral part of him. Yet, grasping the mechanics behind it eluded them completely.

At this moment, duplicates of Vaarh loomed before them, despite believing his draconic cranium had perished ages ago—or so they presumed.

"But..." Alexia's tone quivered. "Why? How are you here in front of us while your true form lies over there!"

Yet another foolish inquiry. Vaarh's expression revealed his dwindling tolerance.

"I suffered a fatal injury and was essentially deceased. Nothing lingers of my original form except the skull. Yet, in the midst of combat, fortune smiled as I plummeted into the chasm within this region of the Primal Lands, compelling me to exhaust every survival tactic available."

His finger directed toward the dragon skull, specifically its shut left orb.

"Observe how the left eye remains sealed, though that's misleading. The left eye has vanished entirely. I offered it up to spawn the tree. Moreover, I relinquished a pair of my teeth to enable the formation of the pool and the eggs."

Vaarh halted for a moment, reflecting on past events prior to resuming:

"Consequently, through endless years, a profound slumber, and vast quantities of vitality from slain beings and other entities, I reached this form. Frankly, I ought to have stayed encased in the egg for several additional decades at minimum, yet I couldn't ignore such a prime chance."

Alexia arched a brow.

"Opportunity?"

Vaarh inclined his head while his stare turned icy, regarding her as a harbinger poised to deliver judgment.

"Indeed. Slaying you both will restore my strength. Such an enhancement suffices to elevate me back to Lord Level. Doesn't that shine through in my deeds and clarifications?"

Step.

Adam advanced, fixing a piercing gaze on Vaarh.

"Thus, the Ancient Voice, the guidelines, the ordeals, and all the rest served merely to lure monsters and Phantoms to this tree for devouring their vital essences? That's the method behind forging your fresh form, correct?" He inquired.

Vaarh eyed his physique, apparently concurring with Adam's assessment.

Though newly born from the shell, he remained clad. Sleek plating of dusky metal shielded his torso, limbs, and lower body, granting unrestricted mobility alongside keen protrusions ideal for melee strikes as improvised blades.

Ultimately, Vaarh dipped his head solemnly.

"Correct. I endured a savage clash and nearly perished, then seized each prospect that arose, mustered my endurance, and bided my time."

"But!" Alexia burst out. "What if a Lord or a Second Rank Phantom arrived here? What then?"

She believed this probe would corner Vaarh, but instead, she noted only tranquil composure.

To Vaarh, it rang as mere rhetoric.

"Then, death would claim me. The Ancient Voice matches my former might. Should a far superior force seek my end, escape would prove impossible. You two hold K4-Level. You grasp this truth more keenly than many.

"Besides, superior entities seldom target inferiors. Such triumphs lack value, and even for impulsive souls who crave carnage and slaughter, pursuing them proves idiotic."

Vaarh extended his limb ahead while his eyes shifted. The prior sagacity and insight faded, unveiling the savage fighter buried in his core.

"Triumph against feeble foes fails to sate bloodlust. Hence, across decades, none surpassing your power has ventured here. Doesn't that stand as prime evidence for my claims?"

Alexia and Adam shared a look. They recognized Vaarh's validity.

No barriers proved utterly unbreakable in this realm. Strength alone defined a defense's resilience and an intruder's capacity to shatter it.

Had Damien appeared, Vaarh's doom would seal instantly, prior to Damien's choice to plunge into the depths. No Ancient Voice or other force could shield him.

Tremble. Tremble. Tremble.

Faint quakes echoed from the distance. Beasts once barred from the Frost Oasis now surged forward with newfound access.

Admittedly, the blue tree and luminous pool had vanished, yet the area brimmed with potent energy.

Adam, Alexia, and Vaarh themselves resembled mobile vaults, brimming with inner power.

Thus, chatter's window slammed shut. Vaarh needed their demise to reclaim his might. Alexia must aid Adam, while Adam sought his state—the Blood of God.

Yet... Prior to that, Adam posed his final query.

"Why reveal all this to us?" he questioned.

Vaarh flickered his lids once, momentarily surprised.

"Hmm? Why not? I favor responding to queries and anticipate reciprocity. Simple politeness, that's all."

His sight swept over Adam and Alexia, a spark igniting in his orbs.

"That said, I'd deceive if I omitted another motive. Understand, awakening demanded certainty in triumph. Hence, disclosing every secret poses no issue if required, since the silenced reveal nothing."

Step.

Vaarh lunged ahead, his presence erupting in sapphire inferno.

"Regardless, I've granted sufficient honor. Now, let's commence the real contest. If this marks your final battle, unleash your utmost!"
