Endless Evolution: Last Star Chapter 1521 1521: I'll Wait

Previously on Endless Evolution: Last Star...
Adam successfully claims the Ancient Flux after his victory over the golem, integrating a second, volatile energy source into his Evolution Tree. Despite the triumph, the power is currently limited and nearly exhausted from a single use, echoing the early days of his journey as a Phantom. As Adam and Silvana attempt to bond with the new energy, they discover it possesses a dangerous will of its own. The ancient power begins to envelop Silvana, triggering an unexpected transformation that threatens to alter both the Operator and her connection to Adam.

While the Ancient Flux served as the fountainhead of primordial power, it remained intrinsically linked to the Evolution Tree. Even the Path Construct maintained a constant interaction with the Evolution Tree, despite not being a direct component of its structure.

Adam now possessed the ability to manipulate this ancient energy at will. Although he grasped this reality, he still needed to discover the true extent of such power; for now, his mind focused only on its basic utility.

The Ancient Flux was far more than a simple reservoir of energy; it was a fundamental piece of Adam’s strength that influenced everything connected to the Evolution Tree, reaching Silvana through the Evolution Vein.

Within the Evolution Vein, all of Silvana’s personal techniques and their shared powers were anchored. Without her presence, Adam would have been stripped of the ability to manifest the Imaginary Cut or the Future of the Past.

This reality applied to every Phantom. Certain exceptionally potent skills could only be triggered when channeled through their specific Operator.

If these were indeed classified as abilities, it meant there was always a path forward for growth and deeper evolution.

Tremble. Tremble. Tremble.

A slight shudder ran through Silvana as her eyes remained fixed and wide. Though Adam felt a surge of concern, he refrained from interfering with the transformation. Sensing no immediate peril to Silvana, he chose to place his faith in her and his own internal power.

It was a rare moment where Adam was relegated to the role of a mere spectator, left in the dark regarding Silvana’s internal experience.

In that hidden realm, she watched the ancient energy drift toward two distinct clusters, which looked like a network of infinite branches converging at a single point.

These clusters were the metaphysical origins of their two combined powers: the Imaginary Cut and the Future of the Past.

Silvana was paralyzed, unable to move or speak, yet she noticed a peculiar detail:

'The energy... it has stopped.'

She mused internally.

'Is the Ancient Flux awaiting my command? Do I have to select which ability will undergo the change?'

In the past, Adam had always been the one to make such pivotal decisions. She had watched him endure a long path where some powers evolved or fused while others faded into nothingness.

Now, the burden of responsibility had shifted to Silvana, causing her heart to race under the sudden pressure.

The task was to choose one of the two skills, but the decision proved far more taxing than she had anticipated.

What if her judgment was flawed? What if the evolved skill was inferior to the original? What if Adam was disappointed by her choice?

A flood of doubts overwhelmed Silvana as she stood on the precipice, until...

"No, I cannot allow myself to think like that."

Silvana gave a firm shake of her head, her trembling eyes sharpening with resolve.

"There is no right or wrong in this choice. I must simply follow my will, just as Adam always does. Out of every possibility, this path is the best!"

With total conviction, Silvana gestured toward the cluster on the left, the representation of the Imaginary Cut. This had been their very first shared ability, appearing at the same moment she took her spectral form.

Unsure of what the Ancient Energy would do to the skill or what the consequences would be, she followed her intuition.

"I wish to see the evolution of this power!"

The currents of energy surged toward the first cluster, and a brilliant radiance swallowed the darkness, momentarily robbing Silvana of her sight.

When she blinked and regained her vision, the first thing she saw was the bewildered face of Adam.

"Hey, are you okay? Did you have a reaction to the ancient energy?"

Before Silvana could find her voice, a violent vibration shook the Evolution Tree.

Tremble. Tremble. Tremble.

Both turned their attention to the Evolution Vein. It was glowing with an intense light, its borders expanding as it prepared to stretch further across the Evolution Tree.

[This process will require time...]

The voice of the Evolution Tree suddenly echoed through the space.

"Hah, it’s been a while since you spoke up, old man," Adam said with a smirk.

[Be silent... I am as old as you are... perhaps even younger, given the situation. However... that is not the priority right now, is it?]

Silvana looked up and gave a small nod.

"Will the outcome be successful? Was my choice the correct one?"

Adam arched an eyebrow, beginning to piece together what had transpired between Silvana and the primordial force.

[I apologize, Silvana, but I do not have the answer... I can only inform you that one of your abilities will be inaccessible for the time being... though you likely already sense that, Silvana...]

She nodded in understanding. Until the Imaginary Cut finished its evolution, the skill was locked.

[The Evolution Vein shall expand gradually... You will both be notified once the evolution of this skill is complete... Patience is required, as is the gathering of energy... specifically ancient energy, if you wish to accelerate the growth...]

The Evolution Tree fell silent as the light within the cracks of the Evolution Vein began to push forward, carving a path for the power that was yet to come.

"Adam..." Silvana turned to him, her expression clouded with anxiety. "The power I chose to transform is—!"

Adam cut her off by placing a hand over her mouth, causing her eyes to go wide with shock.

"Tch. You don't need to tell me." Adam gave a confident smirk. "I'll find out when the time is right, won't I?"

She gave a slow nod.

"Then I’d rather wait for the surprise. I have no doubt you picked the right one."

To his surprise, Silvana shook her head.

"Hmm?"

Silvana tightened her fists, her gaze turning fierce.

"I did what I wanted to do! It... it was my own decision!"

Adam responded with a predatory glint in his eyes.

"Good. That’s very good. I have nothing to fret over then. I’m certain this new power will lead me to many more triumphs and blood-soaked battles!"

Silvana nodded. "Now, you should return."

"Yeah, I suppose so."

Adam shut his eyes, his consciousness snapping back to Frost Ridge.

Whoooooosh.

Before he could even register his surroundings, a violent wind whipped past—it was Alexia, once again throwing herself against the barrier.

Alexia tumbled into the snow and scrambled up instantly, her face flushed with irritation.

"SHIT! If he obtained ancient energy, then I must have it too!"

Adam could only offer a wry smile.

"I guess I'm waiting?"

"You bet!" Alexia shouted with a combative look toward the Head Golem. "Prepare yourself to teach me that power as well!"
