"Max. MAX. MAX. MAX. MAX." The moment his last fight wrapped up, the cheers exploded like a massive surge, crashing over the Divine Colosseum and silencing everything else, as a sea of voices blended into a single booming roar that echoed his name over and over.
"We'll hold out for tomorrow's fights, Max. Prove you're unbeatable again then," a voice yelled with wild thrill, breaking under the wave of the howling masses.
"Max, we'll be here for you tomorrow," another called out, sparking laughs and whoops as more fans started sharing their hopes.
"I bet Max sweeps all three matches tomorrow too," one declared with total certainty, like the results were set in stone.
"Max, you're the only one who can take down the Grim Gladiator, so don't let us down—keep racking up those wins," someone else hollered, their words brimming with eager belief instead of just fun.
As Max made his way out of the ring, the shouts of his name pursued him without mercy, filling every inch of the Divine Colosseum until the stones themselves seemed to vibrate with his echo.
The buzz gripping the audience was a rare sight for the colosseum in ages, leaving many fans more pumped for the next day's clashes than any epic showdown from the past.
Heading into the tunnel below, Max gave a slight shake of his head, a smirk tugging at his thoughts over the stir he'd caused. He pondered if some odd allure really clung to him, since with barely any push, he'd gotten folks from all walks roaring his name with real fire.
Not until Max's form vanished entirely from the ring did the throng start to settle, their yells softening into buzzing chats and hanging excitement.
Still, that electric energy didn't fully die out, for what Max pulled off in just one day outshone years of others' efforts.
Plenty couldn't stop imagining what chaos would erupt if he ever bested the Grim Gladiator, the very idea enough to send the whole colosseum into a frenzy.
"Is that the mortal Lady Virelia picked?" a man in his middle years murmured softly from an elevated spot, his grave eyes locked on the deserted arena. Dressed in elegant, upscale attire, he exuded a grave authority that marked him as far from a regular onlooker.
"Yes, Lord Arckin," his fellow middle-aged companion answered with deference, standing at his side in a way that showed clear loyalty. "That's him."
"This Max is a real prodigy," Lord Arckin remarked, exhaling steadily while his gaze sharpened in reflection. "We got orders to slip him into the Grims Family on the down low, but that's off the table now."
Admiration mixed with worry in his voice as he went on. "Never figured he'd pick the Divine Colosseum over quiet mining work, just to kick up this huge storm in one day."
"Lord Arckin, if you say so, we could just whisk Max out of the Divine Colosseum quietly," the follower suggested with a subtle grin, his words hinting at easy methods to pull it off without fuss.
"No, that'd just tip off the Heron Family too much," Lord Arckin shot back, his brow creasing a bit as his stare stayed glued to the vacant arena.
After a short pause in thought, he spoke once more, his tone even and steady. "Let Max take on the Grim Gladiator. If he pulls off the win, we'll bring him in just like Lady Virelia wanted. That keeps the other big families out of our hair. If he falls, we might have to flip the Divine Colosseum on its head."
"Lord Arckin, wouldn't that stir up even bigger trouble?" the subordinate questioned, his face turning grave as he raised the issue. "Letting Max keep fighting for two more days and even match the Grim Gladiator would blast his name everywhere. By then, I figure even outsiders on Ascension Planet - 076 - Shikon would know who he is."
He stopped for a beat, then pressed on to drive it home. "The Grim Gladiator's a myth in the Divine Colosseum and all over Ascension Planet Shikon. Beating him would rocket Max's fame straight to the notice of the other top clans."
"I get it," Lord Arckin stated gravely, his voice showing he'd weighed all that already. "But we're on Heron Family turf right now, and snatching Max by force would spark total mayhem. Don't kid yourself—there are Elder-level watchers here, just lurking in the shadows, eyes on every move. So grabbing him outright isn't happening."
With a cool addition, he said, "We'll hold off till Max earns his freedom, then openly ask him to join. That leaves no room for the Heron Family or the Divine Colosseum to meddle, and if things go south, Lady Virelia will step in herself, I'm sure."
The subordinate gave a quiet nod beside him, grasping the depth of Lord Arckin's plan and seeing that holding steady was their best move for the moment.
From the seats, watching Max's shape slip into the tunnel at last, Jaden faced Lucia and whispered, "You planning to catch tomorrow's fights?"
"You bet, why not?" Lucia shot back with a big smile, her gaze still sparkling as she eyed the spot where Max had gone. "That guy's got insane potential. He could end up as my competition someday, so let's soak up his matches while it's easy."
Jaden dipped her head in agreement, though inside, she doubted Max could ever truly rival Lucia.
To her, that idea puffed him up too much, since his skills, wild as they seemed now, would need to hit the absolute top of Divine Realm talents to match Lucia.
No one climbed that high on raw gift alone.
All the same, Jaden had to admit Max's promise was downright scary, but she figured it'd take him centuries or millennia to even brush Lucia's power, if he ever did.
