Cultivating for a hundred lifetimes to ascension Chapter 1448 - 784: Reincarnation Gate (Part 2)

Previously on Cultivating for a hundred lifetimes to ascension...
Zhao Sheng confronted a white goat he suspected to be Yao Lan, only to swiftly twist its neck and absorb the emerging smoke, which surged his strength and transformed his frail body into a robust, towering form. Unaware that the goat had respawned as a terrified lamb mere feet away, separated by an unseen dimensional barrier, he searched fruitlessly before slipping into the darkness toward a chaotic rock heap. There, he ambushed a tiger-headed giant that had just devoured a massive wolf and absorbed its essence, shattering the giant's skull to claim the blood-colored smoke for himself, ballooning his size to over thirty feet while awakening distorted visions of breathing stones, writhing tentacles, and ghostly beast fires amid surging bloodlust.

With yet another mighty bound, the enormous silhouette swiftly vanished into the thick obscurity, surging toward a battlefield even farther away.

Roar!

Howl!

Moo!

As Zhao Sheng pushed onward, clashing with foes at every turn, he proved nearly invincible, ripping through more than a dozen colossal Beastmen in a single rampage.

With ever greater amounts of the crimson mist absorbing into his frame, his beastly shape kept evolving, as his vital force soared upward before shifting into shimmering mercury-like blood, which then blended with blood flames to form a fist-sized, radiant blood-hued Demon Core.

At the same time, his human side and clear thinking were heavily subdued, while his savage instincts grew wildly dominant, bombarding his mind with fierce waves of dark feelings.

Luckily, Zhao Sheng’s mental cultivation ran deep, allowing his steadfast will to clamp down on all those primal urges and harmful sentiments.

Over the passing moments, the scope of Zhao Sheng’s movements stretched out to encompass thousands of miles around.

The nearby surroundings turned ever more spooky and terrifying, littered with strange bones on the earth, writhing tentacles flailing like giant trees, ghostly flames roaring like crashing waves, and endless cries and wails resounding across the skies and lands.

Zhao Sheng plowed through whatever blocked his way, noticing that the Beastman creatures he met grew rarer as he went, and the ones that showed up afterward were tougher and harder to overcome.

After shredding a six-headed bull demon, he hunted around for quite a while until he at last spotted a White Bone Mountain, featuring a massive cavern partway up its side, from which thunderous snores boomed out.

As Zhao Sheng drew within ten miles of the entrance, the snoring cut off sharply, and a colossal beast emerged from inside the cave.

It turned out to be an immense black bear, almost twenty zhang high even in a hunched position, its head by itself as big as half of Zhao Sheng’s form.

The stinking breath from the huge bear’s maw stirred up a fierce wind across the terrain.

Most shocking of all, the bear’s coat shone with a metallic luster, smooth like a polished mirror but etched thickly with enigmatic beast patterns.

Those beast markings twisted and fought endlessly, giving off soft whimpers from within.

Taking in the sight, Zhao Sheng pulled back a pace, then lifted his pair of battering-ram fists and smashed them down onto the earth.

Boom,

The land quaked fiercely, cracking open into multiple huge fissures that ran thousands of feet and plunged to unknown depths.

Seeing this display of might, the big bear’s gaze oddly showed a human-like sneer and disdain.

"...Why do you humans rush so madly toward death? Old Bear’s tucked away in this forgotten spot, but folks keep tracking me down. I’ve slain too many already, too weary to take more lives." The giant bear slumped down cross-legged on the dirt, speaking out of nowhere in a lazy tone.

Zhao Sheng’s mind jolted, and he opened his mouth, squeezing out words, "You... you... can... speak... human... language?"

His words came out choppy and muffled, like he hadn’t uttered any in ages.

"Devouring plenty of humans naturally teaches one their tongue, especially since..." The giant bear rubbed its chin, the scorn in its eyes growing sharper.

"Especially since what?" Zhao Sheng blurted out on reflex. Eager to pull more details from the bear, he held off from attacking right away.

"Ha ha, craving the real story?... Prove you’re worthy first, roar!"

No sooner had it spoken than the giant bear leaped to its feet with a massive bellow, its four limbs pounding the ground as it barreled straight at Zhao Sheng.

While airborne, the giant bear’s bulk swelled by half again, its whole frame bursting with dazzling dark radiance that turned it into a iron-clad monster, crashing down like a bolt with vibes of total ruin.

Zhao Sheng’s sight plunged into total blackness all at once, the space around him hardening like metal and locking his form in place.

Right as the giant bear slammed into him, Zhao Sheng’s eyes flared with Divine Light, shockingly whipping out an upward punch that nailed the bear’s lower jaw with an ascending blow.

A ringing, earth-shaking blast echoed as the void fractured into myriad splits, flinging the giant bear back through the air, with waves of space-time rippling out everywhere.

That single strike demolished over half the giant bear’s jaw, the sheer power hurling its frame hundreds of feet away to smash hard into the White Bone Mountain, toppling the whole thing.

Instantly, the earth shook wildly, bones and spectral fires scattered in chaos, and clouds of dust choked the skies and ground.

Zhao Sheng craned his neck and abruptly grabbed his dangling right arm with his left hand, yanking it free and flinging it aside carelessly.

In the blink of an eye, the stump on his right side burst forth with hordes of meaty sprouts that wove together rapidly, reforming a fresh limb in no time.

As his strength kept climbing, this beastly state started picking up traits from the original body’s gifts, like Blood and Flesh Rebirth, Golden Muscle and Jade Bone Body, and the like.

The giant bear facing him likely held a "Golden Muscle and Jade Bone" Dharma Body too and had probably advanced far in it long ago.

Once Zhao Sheng connected with that punch, he held back from following up, just standing there in wait.

With a thunderous rumble, the wrecked Bone Mountain exploded apart, and the shadowy giant bear lurched up unsteadily, its injuries mending at a breathtaking rate.

"Ah... what a thrill! How long has it been since Old Bear last savored a real sting of hurt!" The giant bear got back on its feet, letting out a pleased groan, all the wildness fading from its stare.

Zhao Sheng exhaled a rotten gust, rumbling low, "Sir, done with the fight?"

"Fight’s over! One hit like that shows you’ve got what it takes to join us as a partner?" the giant bear dropped heavily to the ground, emitting a deep grunt.

"Partner?" Zhao Sheng couldn’t stop himself from advancing, his huge bulk casting a broad shadow over the soil.

"I get that you’re full of burning questions. Hold on, let Old Bear mull over how to begin." The giant bear slapped its forehead, then surprisingly bowed its head in thought, dropping all defenses.
