Chaotic Sword God Chapter 3972: The Seven Souls Awaken
Previously on Chaotic Sword God...
A ferocious tempest of energy rampaged through the Primeval Divine Hall. It arose as the lingering force from the Divine Formation of the Heavens. Even this residual power presented a grave danger to certain early Immortal Exalts.
Jian Chen avoided confronting the aftershock head-on. He remained at a distance, drawing on the Primeval Divine Hall's inherent might and its unyielding structure to blunt the energy gale.
After all, the Primeval Divine Hall served as a sovereign god artifact. Although the Divine Formation of the Heavens had grown far stronger, it remained unable to inflict any harm upon the divine hall.
Following two successive assaults, the Divine Formation of the Heavens grew dimmer, yet the fifty thousand Nine-heavenly Xuan Immortals powering it had not depleted their reserves entirely. Roughly twenty percent of their energy lingered still.
This outcome brought an irrepressible smile to Jian Chen's face.
Previously, every Nine-heavenly Xuan Immortal would exhaust themselves after just one attack.
Yet today, despite unleashing two strikes, these Nine-heavenly Xuan Immortals retained some strength.
Such progress marked a tremendous leap forward.
“Sect master, the Divine Formation of the Heavens is now truly capable of both offence and defence. As long as the formation is operating, its defences are so powerful that even I would struggle to breach it at my peak.” The Thousand Soul Demon Exalt’s voice brimmed with open delight too. Being a key participant in forming the array, he naturally desired its utmost potency.
Jian Chen gazed upon the Divine Formation of the Heavens formed by the gathered disciples. He realized that its dramatic enhancement stemmed from uniting all fifty thousand Nine-heavenly Xuan Immortals. This met a fundamental condition for the Divine Formation of the Heavens, thereby releasing portions of its latent abilities.
Should even a single Nine-heavenly Xuan Immortal be absent, the Divine Formation of the Heavens would fail to execute a second assault.
Looking ahead, with rising numbers of Immortal Monarchs, Immortal Emperors, and Immortal Exalts, the Divine Formation of the Heavens would progressively reveal its fearsome prowess as a Grand Exalt's creation.
Suddenly, a quiver stirred within Jian Chen's soul. Upon sensing it, his gaze sharpened instantly. As though an old recollection surged forth, his eyes deepened with reminiscence and complex emotions.
In that instant, his awareness plunged into his soul. At the heart of his vast sea of consciousness, the twin swords, the Primeval artifact spirit, and the Source of Life combined their forces to pin down the Ancestor of the Clear and Cloudy's soul. It clung to a mere sliver of territory, appearing utterly defenseless now.
Seven minuscule points of radiance floated in a distant corner of Jian Chen's sea of consciousness.
Jian Chen fixed his attention on the seven points of light, his surprise mounting gradually.
During his time on the Desolate Plane among the forty-nine great planes of the Saints’ World, he had discovered the remnants of eight experts buried deep beneath the earth. From the fading wills of those eight, he claimed eight golden cores of laws.
These seven specks represented the surviving souls of seven among those experts.
With Jian Chen's present level of comprehension, how could he fail to grasp the intentions of these seven souls?
They had concealed themselves within the golden cores of laws, slipping unnoticed into his sea of consciousness. Their aim was rebirth upon restoring their souls.
Such a rebirth method would inflict severe damage on the host body. It might even amount to outright possession, seizing control entirely.
Earlier, the seven experts' souls had been dreadfully weak, compelled into profound dormancy. At last, they appeared to regain sufficient vitality, hinting at imminent revival.
Jian Chen had transformed utterly since then. Thus, even as these alien souls merely stirred toward awakening, he detected it without delay.
“You’re the one stirring first, though you're just beginning to rouse. Full awakening may take some time yet. No matter, I'll give you a boost to hasten it.” Jian Chen regarded one of the specks of light. Then, without pause, he consumed a soul-nourishing heavenly resource. Yet he refrained from taking in its vast energies himself. Rather, he directed it all toward the soul on the verge of stirring.
This mid-grade God Tier heavenly resource proved immensely nourishing to the soul. Upon drawing in the surging power, the soul visibly grew robust.
Nevertheless, in Jian Chen's perception, their souls stayed profoundly frail, so weak that he could obliterate them effortlessly.
“I’ve finally awakened… but… who am I? And where is this?”
From the newly roused soul came a puzzled whisper. Confusion laced every word.
Among the seven specks of light in Jian Chen’s sea of consciousness, one had faded away without a trace. It had reshaped into a hazy, diminutive form.
The form appeared miniature, spanning no more than a hand's length.
As the tiny figure solidified, her outline sharpened progressively. Delicate traits of her face emerged clearly.
She embodied a woman of captivating allure. A pair of radiant golden wings adorned her back. As she spread them wide, a golden radiance bloomed outward. She evoked an aura of sacred divinity.
Jian Chen promptly recalled the colossal female figure, towering three hundred meters, that he had witnessed in the subterranean chamber on the Desolate Plane. In that moment, she projected invincible dominance, shrouded in unyielding battle fervor. She was a war goddess incarnate.
Jian Chen remained silent. He merely watched her in stillness.
The winged woman creased her brow and delved into her memories. Fresh from slumber, she seemed yet to reclaim her history. Bewilderment and uncertainty clouded her eyes as she scanned her environs and examined her form.
Only after considerable time did fragments return to her. Her vacant gaze ignited with clarity as a soft smile curved her lips.
“I… see… I didn’t think our plan would actually succeed. We actually managed to break free from the shackles and avoid a fate of death through this method, earning ourselves a second life. I just wonder how much time I was asleep for,” the woman murmured. She sensed a vital piece of recollection eluding her still. Just as she moved to pursue it, her notice drifted to the six adjacent specks of light.
The six dormant souls instantly captured her focus. Upon noting their extreme frailty and unawakened state, joy surged through her.
In the following instant, her soul dissolved into a misty shroud and swiftly enshrouded one of the souls. As she attempted to consume it, intricate bands of archaic runes surfaced on the target. They brimmed with profound depth, embodying the essence of the ways.
“An oath of ways?” The woman exclaimed in astonishment. Only then did memory flood back, and she uttered with regret, “I see now. Back then, we all swore an oath of ways to not turn on one another before we had recovered our bodies and returned to Grand Primes. Those who break the oath will have their souls destroyed.”
“The reason why I agreed to an oath like this back then was to prevent them from moving against me. I didn’t think it would end up holding me back instead. A pity, a pity…”
“Oh right, there was the kid who originally inherited my golden core of laws. I wonder what his cultivation is. He should have reached Infinite Prime, right?”
Only now did the woman fully rouse. Every event from before resurfaced in her mind. As her gaze swept the sea of consciousness once more, her expression twisted in shock. She blurted out involuntarily, “This is his soul? Impossible, how can the kid’s soul be so powerful!?”
