Beast Taming Patrol Chapter 4: Chapter 1 Lin Su (Seeking Investment and Followers)_2
Previously on Beast Taming Patrol...
An era that belonged solely to Beast Tamers had thus arrived in this world.
Inside the human brain, a hidden dimension called the Beast Taming Space was discovered. Humans able to form contracts with alien beasts through this space came to be known as Beast Tamers, while the contracted alien beasts were called Guardian Beasts, clearly distinguished from their untamed kin.
Guardian Beasts residing in the Beast Taming Space could grow at a far more astonishing speed than ordinary beasts, and, with the aid of their Beast Tamers, they could more easily obtain all kinds of resources necessary for rapid development.
These advantages forged a mutually beneficial foundation between Guardian Beasts and Beast Tamers. Many intelligent alien beasts began willingly forming contracts with humans, using the power of the Beast Taming Space to accelerate their growth, shatter the limits of their species, and become stronger.
The Beast Tamer community expanded swiftly and thrived; following this rise, humanity finally sounded the horn of counterattack against the alien beasts.
Although Beast Tamers were formidable, alien beasts were not any weaker; thus the old idea of treating alien beasts as mere slaves, like before the Ghost Energy Stone appeared, was no longer realistic. The final outcome of that counterattack was that humans reclaimed their territories, yet were also forced to designate a large portion of land as domains for alien beasts.
Based on geography, human territory was reorganized into four large safe alliances: Yanhuang, Sacred, Desert, and Free. Among them, the Yanhuang Safe Alliance was situated in the Central Asian region of Blue Star and was further divided into seventy-two zones.
Right now, Lin Su was in the 32nd zone of the Yanhuang Safe Alliance.
When he was three, his parents lost their lives in a beast tide. With no remaining relatives, Lin Su had been raised in a children's welfare home, surviving on the minimum living allowance issued by the alliance.
He had stayed there for fifteen whole years.
Hearing the rattle of the iron gate, a little girl of about eleven or twelve darted out. Her eyes lit up at the sight of him, "Lin Su, big brother, you're back!"
"Mhm." Lin Su lifted his hand, gently ruffling the little girl's hair. Before she could puff up her cheeks in mock anger, he swung a dainty paper bag before her eyes. "Tongtong, guess what I brought for you?"
"Yay!" Her displeasure evaporated in an instant. She snatched the paper bag and clutched it to her chest like a treasure. "It's Rainbow Candy!"
"I'm going back to my room. Don't eat it all by yourself. Remember to share with everyone," Lin Su said with a soft smile, patting her head once more before turning toward his room.
"I know, I know, Lin Su, big brother, relax—I'll share, one for each person!" Tongtong bobbed her head obediently and ran off toward the children's yard.
One for Little Radish, one for me; one for Little Moon, one for me; one for Brother Feng, one for me…
Hehe!
…
Sprawled on his bed, comfortable at last, Lin Su's face slowly revealed a sorrow he hadn't allowed anyone else to see.
"The initial Guardian Beast distribution is tomorrow…" he whispered, a trace of unwillingness flickering in his eyes.
Now that he was eighteen, Lin Su's Beast Taming Space had already stabilized at the first tier, qualifying him as an apprentice Beast Tamer. Only after contracting a Guardian Beast and passing the certification of the Guardian Beast Co-operation could he be registered as an official Beast Tamer, enjoy the associated benefits, and obtain the eligibility to apply for a Beast Tamer University.
Just as top universities before the great calamity required enough exam points for admission, the current prestigious Beast Tamer Universities also set minimum strength requirements for Beast Tamers. For a senior high school student who had just formed a first contract, this requirement was essentially equal to the strength of that newly contracted Guardian Beast.
In other words, the strength of the Guardian Beast he would contract tomorrow would almost directly decide whether he could enter a renowned Beast Tamer University.
Alien beasts were divided into strength tiers: from the lowest Juvenile Tier up to the highest Immortal Tier, a total of six tiers. Between them were the Elite Tier, Commander Tier, Sovereign Tier, and Emperor Tier, with immense power gaps between each rank.
All alien beasts began life in the Juvenile Tier, but due to different inborn talents and potentials, their ultimate limits varied. Some could only grow up to reach the Elite Tier, while others could soar all the way to the lofty Sovereign Tier, or even the Emperor Tier.
Based on their growth potential, alien beasts were categorized into four species levels: Elite, Commander, Sovereign, and Emperor, each corresponding to the natural limit of that species. Furthermore, every species level could be split into lower, middle, and upper grades.
In the early days, Beast Tamers had been able to contract Sovereign and Emperor species beasts. However, the appearance of Immortal Tier alien beasts decades ago overturned everything.
Immortal Tier beasts possessed mysterious powers that could directly meddle with and control the rules themselves.
In order to curb the power of human Beast Tamers, three immensely strong Immortal Tier alien beasts joined forces decades earlier and implanted a special restriction called the "Alien Beast Ban" into the bloodlines of other high-potential, high-species alien beasts, causing them to die on the spot if they ever formed a contract with a human Beast Tamer.
Only Elite species and the lower grades of Commander species remained untouched by the Alien Beast Ban and could still form contracts with Beast Tamers.
Humanity, however, had already mastered the evolutionary routes of low-tier alien beasts and could guide them to evolve step by step into higher-tier species. Because of this, the Alien Beast Ban did not completely doom Beast Tamers.
Even so, resources related to Beast Tamers became extremely scarce, and the conditions facing the new generation of Beast Tamers were inevitably harsher.
Currently, if Lin Su wanted to contract a pet beast, there were only two possible paths.
The first was to purchase a contractible pet beast from the open market and complete the contract himself.
The second, as a soon-to-graduate high school senior, was to receive an initial pet beast from the official allocation program.
The difference lay in cost: buying a pet beast independently required paying full market price, while the initial pet beast allocation, which was a form of assistance from the league, only charged the base breeding cost of the pet beast, just a fraction of the market value.
Green Eagle High School, where he studied, was a public school that held breeding rights for a lower elite species, the Green Feathered Eagle. Graduating seniors could choose among several elite species pet beasts, or select the Green Feathered Eagle as their initial pet beast. However, the breeding cost for a Green Feathered Eagle was twelve thousand league coins.
Given Lin Su's circumstances, neither buying a pet beast on his own nor choosing a Green Feathered Eagle was realistic.
He only possessed thirty thousand league coins, painstakingly saved since childhood by being frugal to the extreme and skipping almost all entertainment.
Thirty thousand league coins were sufficient to cover the breeding cost of any elite species pet beast—except the Green Feathered Eagle.
Without an initial pet beast from a lower elite species, Lin Su had no way to enter a truly outstanding Beast Tamer University.
For someone who had always ranked among the top academically, this reality left him especially unwilling, yet he could do nothing to change it.
At this point, dwelling in frustration was pointless.
Letting out a helpless sigh, Lin Su took out his communicator and glanced at the screen.
There were still no unread messages.
Just as he was about to switch it off, a pop-up notification abruptly appeared.
"Today, the league's chief researcher, Qin Yunzhang, held a press conference, announcing a groundbreaking research finding."
Qin Yunzhang?
The creator of the Guardian Beast Co-operation battle strategies?
Lin Su blinked and, unable to restrain his curiosity, tapped the message.
"New research suggests that the species classifications of alien beasts may not have resulted from natural evolution under the radiation of the Ghost Energy Stone, but instead that the radiation selectively targets ordinary flora and fauna whose traits are extremely similar to predetermined alien beast templates, guiding them to evolve along these templates, unrelated to the original species characteristics…"
"Researcher Qin stated that even if the Ghost Energy Stone appeared in a world whose organisms were completely different from those on Earth, there is still a high likelihood that the same kinds of alien beasts would emerge. This discovery overturns our basic understanding of alien beasts and raises a new question: where did these predetermined templates originate…"
"For follow-up developments related to this research, this news channel will continue to track and report. Please stay tuned."
After scrolling to the bottom, Lin Su shook his head with a hint of disappointment, closed the communicator, and put it aside.
The research sounded astonishing, but it had nothing to do with his current dilemma.
It was better to sleep, recover his energy, and wait for tomorrow's initial pet beast allocation.
As he shut his eyes, drowsiness gradually washed over him.
Lin Su drifted into sleep.
Then, all of a sudden, he woke up again.
The moment his eyes opened, a startled cry rang out.
"Master! Madam! The young master has awakened!"
Lin Su: "???"
Since when did I become a young master?
