Mother Marie emerged from the church, and all those gathered before it promptly knelt in reverence toward her.
Even the young ones accompanying their families lowered their heads to her without hesitation.
"Good afternoon, everyone..." Marie said while lifting her hands high, as though granting a blessing to the crowd.
"Mo-Mother... Please rescue my child. I beg you..." The child's father pleaded with a face full of desperation, rushing forward to Mother Marie while carrying his lifeless infant.
"Child... Do you have faith in Lord Baltzaar?" Mother Marie inquired, gently taking the infant into her arms.
"We place our trust in Lord Baltzaar, Mother Marie." The infant's mother responded, clasping her hands together and weeping uncontrollably.
"Y-Yes, we do... Mother." The father added, dropping to his knees once more.
"Very well... I'll place this child upon the altar, and we'll witness if Lord Baltzaar grants him mercy." Mother Marie declared, turning back and re-entering the church.
Upon stepping inside, she retrieved a tiny vial of green fluid from her pocket and poured it fully into the child's mouth.
The interior of the church featured rows of sturdy wooden tables, with a grand altar at the forefront bearing an engraved eye symbol.
As Mother Marie approached the altar... Every one of the fourteen nuns present inside dropped to their knees and bowed their foreheads to the floor.
Mother Marie reached the altar and laid the child upon it.
"Everyone... Please enter. Let us offer prayers to Lord Baltzaar for this child's sake." Mother Marie called out softly, prompting those at the church entrance to come in and settle on the wooden pews.
Mother Marie then knelt down on both knees, gripping her pendant firmly, and began reciting words in an ancient tongue.
"Yoko Alkoiu Trusam Lovelo Hunano Trusam Re Alor Trusam..." The moment she uttered the chant, the pendant clutched in her hand began to shine with intense light.
A sudden green glow emanated from the altar, and the baby's fingers began to twitch.
"Oh my god..."
"Are you seeing that?"
"I-I am."
"M-My child..." The mother murmured, her tears vanishing as shock overtook her features.
"UWAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH..." The infant burst into cries, revived once more.
"Lord Baltzaar has shown his mercy to this child, granting him a second opportunity at life." Mother Marie announced, swiftly lifting the child from the altar and gazing at him with a warm smile.
The child met Mother Marie's eyes, his own flashing a vivid green for an instant before settling back to normal.
"There you go..." Mother Marie said gently, handing the child back to his mother.
"T-Thank you... Mother Marie. I-I don't know how I can ever repay-"
"Shhhh... Child, you don't repay the lord. Just remain devoted to him. Do you understand?" Mother Marie questioned with a gentle smile.
"I-I would gladly give my life for the lord... Mother Marie." The father stated solemnly, immediately kneeling before her.
"Devotion is what the lord expects from you for all his gifts. I trust none of you will let him down." Mother Marie said, pivoting to address the congregation seated on the wooden benches.
"NO MOTHER." The group replied together, rising to their feet and revealing identical eye pendants dangling from their necks, just like Mother Marie's.
"Good... Lunch will be served shortly. Return to your duties." Mother Marie instructed, heading straight upstairs to her quarters.
"Mother..." One of the nuns halted her midway up the stairs.
"Hm...? What's the matter, Yuli?"
"News from the human kingdom has come, Mother."
"Come to my room." Mother Marie ordered, leading the nun there without delay.

They stepped into the room, and Mother Marie locked the door right away before approaching Yuli slowly.
"What did she say?" She demanded, her face stern.
"The Royal Cavalry ventured to battle demons in the Duran Mountains, Mother..." Yuli explained, her voice trembling with uncertainty.
"What? Did Merlin slay someone vital to them? Or have they discovered the village?" Mother Marie pressed, her expression grave.
"T-That's the issue... M-Mother..." Yuli replied, a dark look crossing her face as she retreated a step.
"Oh, for the Lord's sake... Just spit it out and tell me... What in the world happened?" Mother Marie snapped in fury.
"S-Sir... Merlin fell in a brutal clash with a human." Yuli whispered, averting her gaze in terror.
"W-What? What are you saying? How could a mighty demon like Merlin perish at a human's hand?
Was it Adwin, the king of the human kingdom?" Mother Marie questioned intensely.
"N-No, Mother... It was another. The human who vanquished the demon wore a white mask and bested him within a Demon Pact."
"Dispatch the message... I want full details on that human within two days." Mother Marie commanded firmly, fixing her gaze on Yuli.
"A-As you wish... Mother." Yuli answered, her face pale with fear.
"Do you grasp what I said?" Mother Marie inquired in a hushed, threatening tone.
"Y-Yes... Mother." Yuli stammered, still frightened.
"Then why are you lingering here? Leave and send the MESSAGE." Mother Marie bellowed, gesturing sharply at the door.
"Y-Y-Y-Yes... M-Mother." The nun stuttered, fleeing the room immediately.
"Merlin... You damned fool. AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH..." Mother Marie cried out in rage, digging her nails deep into the wooden table ahead and shattering them all at once.

"What happened, child?" Abruptly, dark smoke billowed within the mirror again.
