*Swish*
Amidst a distortion of spatial ripples, Leon materialized on the dungeon's ground floor. The instant his boots made contact with the chilly stone floor, the colossal gates groaned as they swung open, ancient gears turning as if to greet their master’s return.
"Why the hell aren’t these doors opening u—Ahhhhhhh..."
*Clank-Clank-Clank-Clank*
The massive doors had barely split when a skeletal form came tumbling through, clattering down the short staircase in a tangled mess of bones. Rees finally skidded to a stop just inches from Leon’s feet, sprawled out in a most undignified manner.
"Hello, Rees." Leon’s mouth twitched into a small, entertained grin as he looked down at the lich.
"Sir Leon... I greet you." Rees scrambled up with a grace that was unexpected for a creature of bone, then bowed low, keeping his hollow eye sockets respectfully aimed at the floor.
"It’s been a while... Where have you been?" Leon’s face settled into a neutral mask, though a spark of interest remained in his gaze.
"Haha... You see, there was—"
*Step-step*
The rhythm of soft footsteps resonated from behind the gates. A woman emerged into the dungeon’s shadows, her presence bringing with it the subtle aroma of fresh blossoms and ancient woodlands.
Leon’s eyes widened with genuine shock. Standing there was Medina—the former Mother of Fairies—her celestial beauty as vibrant as ever, with hair that flowed like captured moonlight.
"I greet the Dungeon Master." Medina gave him a warm smile and a graceful bow.
"Well, well... If it isn’t the Mother of Fairies." He smiled back, his voice dripping with a playful tone.
"Not anymore..." Medina’s cheeks flushed a delicate pink as she stood tall. "I have decided to give up that title. Now, I am just Mr. Rees’ wife."
"Eh...? EHHH...?" Leon’s cool exterior shattered completely. He looked back and forth between the skeleton and the former fairy matriarch, his face a map of pure bewilderment.
"It’s true, Sir Leon. I have married Medina, and now we are a married couple." Rees rubbed the back of his polished skull in a strangely human display of sheepishness, as if trying to scratch an itch that wasn't there.
Leon stared in silence for a long moment, trying to wrap his head around the absurdity. "I have so many questions... But I’m only going to ask two. When did this happen? And where are the people from the village?"
Medina’s smile grew even brighter, her eyes shimmering with a quiet happiness as she spoke. "When you departed the forest, I had planned to discard my powers entirely to step down. But Sir Rees... he suggested a better path. A way to resign without sacrificing everything."
She shot a loving look at Rees, who now stood by her side. "A Fairy Mother is forbidden from marrying. The instant she does, the title is revoked, but the majority of her powers remain. And so... we got married. We bound our vows at the Pool of Life and Death, beneath the ancient waters that tie souls together for eternity."
"That is why our return took some time," Rees chimed in, his skeletal fingers locking with Medina’s soft hand. "When we went back to the village, the folk were joyful. The fairies had started instructing them in magic—true magic. After much deliberation, the villagers chose to stay. They are currently constructing a new settlement deep within the forest alongside the fairies. A place where humans and fairies can coexist in peace."
Leon listened without saying a word, his face showing none of the frustration boiling inside him.
‘Fucking hell... All those fuckable women, gone just like that. An entire village of opportunities went up in smoke. Damn it, I should’ve at least brought back that one girl... the one with no gag reflex. What a waste.’
His features twisted into a look of deep annoyance, his brow furrowing and his mouth tightening into a hard line.
"Something wrong, Mr. Leon?" Medina asked, tilting her head as concern touched her perfect face.
"Can you still read my mind?" Leon blurted out, a hint of panic in his tone.
"Oh no, no..." She giggled softly, shaking her head. "That power vanished with my title. My thoughts belong to me now, and everyone else’s are private."
"Good." Leon sighed, feeling a wave of relief. Then, a devious glint returned to his eyes. He lifted both hands, making crude and obvious gestures—the universal sign for sex. "Tell me, now that you’re both hitched... How are you going to... you know..."
"Hmm...? What does that—" Medina started to ask, her expression clouded by genuine confusion.
"It’s a spiritual wedding, Sir Leon," Rees interrupted smoothly, his voice firm as he stared at Leon, "We don’t require a physical relationship to prove our bond."
"Oh well... She’s your wife. Do whatever you want with her." Leon shrugged with a wicked smirk, throwing an arm over Rees’ shoulder. "But if she ever needs some physical satisfaction, you know where to find me. Just two floors down."
"Oh, do I still live on floor eighteen, Sir Leon?" Rees inquired.
"Yes... but for now, you’re coming with me. Elis will escort Medina to the eighteenth floor." Leon’s voice shifted back to his typical authoritative neutrality.
*Swish*
A slight ripple in the air appeared, and Elis materialized behind him like a living shadow. She bowed deeply, her movements sharp and refined.
"As you command, Master. But... for some reason, I can’t teleport her to the floor. She is protected with some kind of magic."
"Ah... Try now." Medina gave Elis a knowing smile, her aura shifting slightly as an invisible barrier was lifted.
*Swish*
In a flash, both of them disappeared, leaving only the lingering scent of Medina’s floral magic in the air.
Leon turned to Rees immediately. "Take a look at this." He flicked his wrist, throwing a dark, thumping core toward the lich. It was the core of the Gillian Hound, still vibrating with a foreign power.
*Catch*
Rees caught it mid-flight. He held it up, observing it in silence for a long while. Then, with a soft click against his skull, a thin crimson beam erupted from his left eye socket, scanning the core like a computer processing data.
"Huh... This isn't from this realm, is it?" Rees finally remarked, his voice dropping low.
"Nope." Leon smirked as he began walking toward the dungeon exit, the cool night air calling to him.
"May I ask which realm it originated from?" Rees followed closely, the core held carefully in his bony hand.
"I don’t remember." Leon looked up as they stepped out into the open. Dark clouds were racing across the sky, pushed by a restless wind that sighed through the branches. "All I know is that I’m consuming it tonight. And we’re heading deep into the woods for that."
"Sir Leon... The mana within this object is abnormal." Rees’s voice was full of genuine worry. "From what I can sense, it will saturate your body and mind with a violent bloodlust. It might be uncontrollable."
"I’m aware of that." Leon’s smile didn't falter.
"And... I assume you still intend to consume it?"
"Yes. And I want you there to witness it." Leon answered with a flat expression. "If I lose my mind or try something foolish, you’ll have to restrain me. Trap me in a magic barrier or whatever is necessary until I’ve absorbed every last bit of its power."
Rees shook his head, a dry rattling sound coming from his jaw. "Always doing something insane... You really are a peculiar human. It’s as if you have no fear of death."
Leon laughed softly, taking the core back and putting it into his inventory. "Sometimes it’s better to die strong than to die weak. And trust me, I’ve died weak before. It’s not a good experience."
As they ventured deeper into the dark forest, a warm, celestial blue light suddenly flooded the world from above. Both of them stopped and gazed at the sky.
Two magnificent full moons hung in the clear night, their azure radiance bathing the forest like a gentle blessing as the dark clouds vanished entirely.
"Looks like we’ve survived the winters successfully..." Leon whispered with a smile.
