Wait, How Did My Digital Girlfriend Become a Sword Immortal? Chapter 3: This Game Even Has a Dedicated Voice Actor?

Previously on Wait, How Did My Digital Girlfriend Become a Sword Immortal?...
Chen Huai’an, terminally ill and abandoned, found solace in a mobile game, spending money to improve the dire circumstances of the character Li Qingran. He observed surprisingly realistic reactions from Li Qingran as her hut transformed and new items appeared. Meanwhile, Li Qingran, a former disciple expelled from her sect, found herself in a transformed dwelling, bewildered by the sudden changes.

Li Qingran had never witnessed anything so inexplicable.

Constructing a residence was a simple task for a Cultivation practitioner, but transforming a collapsing shack into a sturdy stone house in the blink of an eye? That was no mundane skill.

Furthermore, summoning gourmet food and fine garments out of thin air was even more staggering.

The gap between the art of transformation and the divine ability to create something from nothing was immeasurable.

Initially, she suspected a high-level cultivator was playing a prank, perhaps using a storage ring to manifest items while staying concealed. Yet, her senses detected zero spatial fluctuations. Every object had truly materialized from the void.

To manifest items from nothingness with such vivid detail—capturing the exact fragrance and texture of the food—meant this was likely the handiwork of a Nascent Soul expert at the very least. Or could it be a powerhouse of the Fusion Realm?

Li Qingran could not be certain.

What she did know was that her own master, Daoist Qingxuan—a legendary old monster at the Nascent Soul stage—lacked such capabilities. He could certainly cook raw ingredients into a dish, but he could not make a feast appear from thin air. Then again, perhaps her master simply never bothered with such trivialities. After all, once a cultivator reaches the Foundation Establishment stage, they can sustain themselves through meditation alone.

The seductive aroma of the meal stirred her dormant appetite. Now that her Cultivation was abolished, she could no longer rely on meditation to suppress her hunger. Since the flesh of most demonic beasts was toxic and she lacked the knowledge to distinguish the safe ones, she had been scraping by on roots and wild fruit.

However, hiding beneath the bed forever was not a viable plan.

Steeling her resolve, Li Qingran peered out from her hiding spot. “Which Senior is performing such profound spells? This Junior, Li Qingran, respectfully asks for the privilege of meeting you face-to-face.”

The room remained deathly quiet, save for the rhythmic drumming of rain against the bamboo window frames.

After waiting a moment, Li Qingran finally decided to crawl out from under the furniture.

To claim she felt no fear would be a falsehood. But if this mysterious figure possessed such overwhelming power, what resistance could she possibly offer? Moreover, they had already touched her foot earlier—a warm, gentle contact that felt like a silent mockery of her attempts to hide.

The memory caused her to bite her lip, her cheeks burning with a flush of shame.

“Whatever the outcome, I accept it.”

Rising to her feet, she scanned the area but saw no one. Her eyes, however, were pulled toward the table and its magnificent spread of food.

The sound of her gulping was clearly audible alongside the loud protest of her empty stomach.

Awkwardly, she took a seat at the table. She stared at the delicacies but did not move to eat. Instead, she pressed her palms together, bowed her head, and spoke with total sincerity: “If Senior is unwilling to appear, may I ask if this meal is intended for me? If you do not answer, I would rather face starvation than take what belongs to you.”

Having spoken, she closed her eyes and entered a meditative posture.

Chen Huai’an had just finished a basic lunch of tomato and scrambled eggs.

Upon checking the game again, he found that Li Qingran had moved from under the bed to the table, where she sat in meditation. Her delicate features were red and beaded with sweat, her body swaying slightly. The way her small nose twitched as she tried to ignore the smell of the food was incredibly cute.

“What is she doing now?” Chen Huai’an chuckled.

Meditating in front of a feast? Was she testing her self-control? Her chin was practically touching the roast chicken!

[Li Qingran is asking for permission to consume the meal. Do you allow it?]

A prompt appeared on the screen.

“I actually have to give her permission? This system is pretty strict,” Chen Huai’an remarked with a grin as he tapped “Yes.”

On the display, Li Qingran seemed to react to a sound. Her eyes flew open, and her face beamed with pure happiness.

“Thank you, Senior!”

“What the—! This game actually has voice acting?!”

Startled by the clear, melodic voice, Chen Huai’an almost fumbled his phone. He hadn’t used the audio before, assuming there was no music. After sliding the volume up, he realized the game featured incredibly immersive environmental sounds, like the crackle of the hearth and the downpour outside.

He never expected Li Qingran to have her own dedicated voice actress!

“Small indie studios really put in the effort!”

Chen Huai’an watched with interest as Li Qingran began her meal.

She started with small, polite bites. However, her pace quickly accelerated until she was eating with a frantic intensity that left Chen Huai’an speechless. Only a video game character could eat that much that fast.

Once the meal was finished, Li Qingran used a small cloth to tidy her mouth. Blushing deeply, she bowed once more.

“This Junior has not tasted such a feast in a very long time. I will never forget Senior’s benevolence!”

While she had been meditating, a single word had suddenly vibrated in her ears: “Yes.”

The sound felt like the very resonance of the Dao, shaking her soul. When she opened her eyes, the food was illuminated by a faint golden glow forming the character: 可 (Yes), crafted from pure Spiritual Qi.

The voice had arrived via a transmission technique, but what truly shocked her was that the glowing character hadn't been shaped from the environment—it had been created from nothing, just like the house and the food.

Li Qingran felt a slight shiver. Whoever this Senior was, their power was far beyond her imagination. At the very least, they didn't seem to harbor any ill will.

“Senior, I shall go clean the dishes.”

Gathering the plates, she walked toward the door.

The storm had intensified, the thick curtain of rain making it impossible to see more than a few meters ahead. The only sounds were the heavy rain and the low rumble of thunder in the distance.

“The weather is getting even worse…”

Looking at the dark sky, Li Qingran felt a wave of gratitude.

Without the Senior’s intervention, her old shack would have certainly been destroyed by now.

A small porch protected her from the rain. Following the edge of the roof, she found a wooden bucket she had placed out earlier to catch water. It was now brimming, providing plenty for washing the plates.

[Li Qingran is washing the dishes.]

[Li Qingran’s favorability has increased by 5. Current Level: 10.]

“Wow, she even does the chores? I guess a favorability system makes sense for a game like this.”

Chen Huai’an laughed, becoming more impressed with the game’s complexity.

The characters felt remarkably real, and the level of interaction was staggering.

How had a game of this quality stayed under his radar?

Checking the time, he noticed his digital identity and health report would be finished in a few minutes.

While he waited, he decided to browse the game world.

To his amazement, the game featured a massive world map. When zoomed out, Li Qingran’s home was nothing more than a tiny speck surrounded by a vast "fog of war." Only the immediate area around her house was revealed.

However, one other location was visible: a magnificent Sect identified by glowing golden letters—the Qingyun Sect.

“Oh? So that’s her old home.”

Chen Huai’an frowned. Why wasn't Li Qingran still at the Qingyun Sect? Why was she living in such poverty? The Sect appeared to be right at the top of the mountain, while she was at the base. For a world of cultivators, that distance should be nothing.

There was clearly a deeper story here.

As he zoomed back in on the local map, his expression sharpened.

Near the small house, five distinct red markers had appeared.

They were closing in on Li Qingran's location at high speed!
