Capítulo 709: The Trial of Blood and Betrayal (3)

“Both Ada and Carmen will awaken the instant I call upon them, signaling the start of the trial. They are forced to clash within that arena. It is exactly as I claimed: the victor lives, and the defeated party perishes.

Naturally, should any meddling outsider enter the ring, the trial is voided, and the Scale will execute them both on the spot. Furthermore, if the master of the Scale is killed, they both die along with me.

I am truly sorry, Frey… but taking my life isn't an option. Not just yet!”

Frey’s gaze darkened with every word that left Maika’s mouth.

In his mind, Frey had already slaughtered Maika a hundred times over—yet he did not dare dismiss the man's warnings.

Seeing that he remained unharmed, Maika’s confidence swelled as he continued to spout his lunacy.

“Let us place a wager, Frey! Who do you think will emerge from this trial alive?

Will it be your beloved sister?!

Or perhaps my own mother?!”

Maika bellowed with a manic delight, intentionally goading Frey further.

“Why would you ever commit such an atrocity?

To your mother… and your very own kin?”

Frey was baffled. He couldn't fathom where Maika had even obtained such a cursed tool.

Maika’s hysterical laughter died down instantly upon hearing Frey’s inquiry.

“You want to know why? You’re asking why I would do this to my mother?”

He lingered on the thought, a repulsive smirk stretching across his face.

“Why wouldn’t I?”

Maika’s features contorted into a mask of pure malice.

“Why wouldn't I seek the death of that whore? Without her, this world would be far improved! Death is the only thing she deserves—nothing more!”

He shrieked with renewed insanity, allowing years of buried resentment to explode.

“That woman is nothing but a vulgar slut… she discarded her own flesh and blood the moment it was convenient. She left me to rot throughout my entire childhood. I was forced to survive alone within the Starlight family. And when I finally reached adulthood and tracked her down—because she was the mother I lacked—do you know her first words to me after all those years?”

“She told me I was nothing but an error!

A mere accident resulting from a trivial fling!

Ha! Indeed! I am the offspring of the illustrious Carmen Starlight… a woman who opens her legs for anyone!”

Maika snapped completely, a lifetime of vitriol flooding out at once.

“That whore was infatuated with Abraham—your father—but the great Abraham would never acknowledge trash of her caliber. He shunned her. Consequently, the slut threw herself at one man after another, merely chasing her base desires!

She left her son to decay, indifferent to his fate!

My very life was a mere reminder of one of her countless blunders!”

Maika intended to keep ranting, but Frey suppressed him with a sudden, crushing wave of pressure.

“I have no interest in your filth or your petty grudges.

Tell me why you involved my sister in your miserable revenge.”

Despite the suffocating aura, Maika stood his ground without a hint of fear.

“Why? You truly have to ask?!

That slut neglected her son for years—and then what? She began doting on you and your sister, shielding you as if YOU TWO were her actual offspring!

How do you expect me to react when I witness that, huh?!”

At these words, Frey remembered the many times Carmen had assisted him throughout his life, claiming it was a debt she owed
