Ada couldn't help but flinch the moment her eyes met Frey's dark, obsidian gaze.
Frey appeared transformed today for some inexplicable reason. He seemed far more intimidating than usual, as if he had finally come of age and was showing his true colors.
She paused, sensing that he was looking to gain something from her. Involvement in Frey’s twisted games was the last thing she wanted.
However, her hands were tied.
The deal he proposed involved something she had yearned for throughout the years—hidden cravings she had suppressed deep in her soul were now surfacing, ready to burst forth.
Biting her lip, Ada eventually gave Frey a stiff, reluctant nod.
"Frey, you better not retract those words… I accept your terms. Now—what is it you require in exchange?"
Frey relaxed into his chair, his face twisting into a fox-like smirk. As Ada tensed up, waiting for his heavy demands, his reply nearly caused her to gape in shock.
He lifted his hands as if to signal his innocence. "I haven't decided."
A heavy silence hung in the air for several moments while Ada tried to digest his statement.
Gripping her hands into fists, she erupted for what felt like the hundredth time that day,
"I knew it! You are just playing with me!"
"You're starting with that nonsense again," Frey uttered with a weary sigh. "I already promised to sign an Aura Contract. Do you really think I'd joke about that?"
"But you just said you wanted something in return!"
He gave a casual shrug. "I do. I simply haven't settled on what that is yet. We can figure it out down the road."
Ada grumbled under her breath, disturbed by how nonchalant he was being.
"You are literally walking away from your title as lord, yet you don't even know what you want… This is completely illogical."
Frey rested his chin on his palm, lounging lazily across his desk.
"Why are you in such a rush? It’s not like we can draw up the Aura Contract this instant. Besides, I am legally unable to abdicate the lordship until I officially turn sixteen and inherit the title—which is still a month away."
Ada remained silent, unable to refute his logic. He was right.
Noticing her begrudging agreement, Frey added with a faint smile.
"We have plenty of time, Ada. Why not move back in here for the time being? It has been quite a while since we shared a roof, hasn't it? It would also give us time to get the contract ready."
"Me? Live in this house? With you?"
Ada trembled, her features contorted in a mask of pure revulsion.
Frey merely blinked at her, stunned by her extreme disgust.
*Exactly how much did my predecessor torment this girl?*
"Your old quarters haven't changed… and I promise I won't bite."
Ada drifted into deep thought, causing Frey to slap his forehead in sheer annoyance.
She hadn’t hesitated this much regarding the lordship—was staying here really that much worse? Just how much of a piece of trash was the *old* Frey to warrant such a reaction?
Of course, Ada’s suspicion was well-founded.
Frey’s past was a catalog of horrors.
She could never erase the memory of the
