"You should weigh your options carefully. Confronting Xuan Zhen always carries the risk of a fatal outcome. If survival is your priority, proceed with extreme caution. I recognize that Brother Yang Chen possesses great talent; contributing to other efforts within Bi Shuangxing would be immensely beneficial to the human race. There is no requirement to seek out a confrontation with Xuan Zhen. Even though we currently lack a definitive strategy to neutralize him, we wish to avoid further unnecessary loss of life." Lin Tianyi and Han Bo spoke with gravity in their voices.
Ji Yue Shuang glanced at Yang Chen, uncertain if he truly grasped the weight of their warning. The sheer power Xuan Zhen possessed was genuinely terrifying.
Yang Chen, however, let out a light chuckle. "I still hope to encounter Xuan Zhen first. At the very least, we could exchange greetings, even if a battle doesn't occur."
Han Bo and Lin Tianyi interpreted his mention of 'greetings' as a graceful way to back down while saving face. They nodded toward him, believing they understood his intent.
In reality, they were unaware that Yang Chen genuinely intended to speak with Xuan Zhen.
He wondered what kind of expression Xuan Zhen would wear when they crossed paths again on Bi Shuangxing, following their brief parting during their last encounter.
Han Bo then stated, "Very well, Junior Sister, you and Brother Yang Chen should rest within the city for now. Tomorrow, I will arrange for an escort to take you to the East City District to survey the current situation."
"That is fine," Yang Chen and Ji Yue Shuang answered.
With a wave of his hand, Han Bo signaled his subordinates to escort Yang Chen and Ji Yue Shuang to their quarters.
While the residence was humble compared to the grandeur of the Divine Night Sect, Yang Chen was unbothered. He stayed there for two days, and by the third morning, several weathered elders arrived at their door.
"Lady Ji, Brother Yang Chen, I am Guo Huaian. Sir Han Bo has appointed me as your guide to the East City District." The Boundaryless Elder maintained a respectful posture, waiting patiently for them.
Yang Chen and Ji Yue Shuang emerged together, acknowledging Guo Huaian with a nod.
Ji Yue Shuang remained cold and distant toward those of lower status, whereas Yang Chen treated everyone with the same level of courtesy.
"I appreciate it," Yang Chen said, cupping his hands in a traditional greeting.
Guo Huaian then led Yang Chen and the accompanying Boundaryless experts toward the city's East City District.
Every district in the city faced a different direction, held different mineral resources, maintained different garrison sizes, and required unique tactical approaches.
In the East City, the primary defense force consisted of Boundaryless cultivators. Although Yang Chen spotted a few experts at the Heaven-separated Realm, their presence was minimal.
"This is the East City District. Brother Yang Chen, Lady Ji, if you stand atop these battlements, the distant mining resources will be visible. We are here under Sir Han Bo’s orders to support you in the struggle against Xuan Zhen of the Spirit God Race." A flash of dread crossed Guo Huaian’s face as he sighed at the mention of Xuan Zhen.
From their vantage point on the city wall, Yang Chen and Ji Yue Shuang looked out over the horizon. A vast expanse of mines stretched out before them.
Cultivators of various ranks were stationed along the wall, though the Boundaryless Level experts were clearly the most elite among the defenders.
"Lead me to the nearby mines," Yang Chen requested.
"Follow me and stay close to Brother Yang Chen," Guo Huaian commanded his men.
Several Boundaryless cultivators followed, though their demeanor toward Yang Chen was lukewarm at best. They clearly held Ji Yue Shuang in much higher regard.
Even Guo Huaian shared this bias. Despite Yang Chen’s polite behavior, the guide was far more attentive to Ji Yue Shuang, addressing her formally as 'Lady'.
Their attitude stemmed from their knowledge of Ji Yue Shuang’s prestigious master. Since Han Bo hadn't given Yang Chen any special distinction, they naturally viewed him with less importance.
As for the idea of Yang Chen facing Xuan Zhen?
If even Ji Yue Shuang was insufficient for the task, they failed to see what difference Yang Chen could possibly make.
Yang Chen led the group of Boundaryless cultivators to the base of the walls near the mining area and began inspecting the perimeter.
He found himself genuinely intrigued by the various colors of the ores being extracted.
"Is there a way for us cultivators to acquire these minerals?" Yang Chen inquired.
"One can obtain these ores by accumulating enough merit. However, it is a grueling process. Cultivators like us might spend centuries working here just to trade for a small amount," Guo Huaian explained honestly.
"Is the allure of these minerals truly that significant to you?" Yang Chen asked.
"Absolutely. These ores possess great utility. They fetch astronomical prices from Heaven-separated Realm experts at any Star Domain Interface. Most importantly, the Liuli Ore is found here, which is essential for helping us break through to the Heaven-separated Realm," Guo Huaian noted.
"So, the Liuli Ore is the primary draw for most cultivators?" Yang Chen asked.
Not all who served here belonged to the Divine Night Sect; many were peripheral followers who used the sect's prestige but lacked the high status of someone like Ji Yue Shuang.
Guo Huaian and his subordinates were perfect examples of this class of cultivators.
Yang Chen rubbed his brow and asked, "On that note, when was the last time Xuan Zhen raided this mine?"
"It was the Earth-made Mine over there. It yields materials for incredibly rare Formations, which is why the Spirit God Race has been targeting it lately." Guo Huaian pointed toward a specific location for Yang Chen.
Yang Chen observed the massive mine, which was currently emitting thick black smoke. The area was poorly guarded, and the ground was still stained with blood and littered with corpses, giving off a putrid odor.
"Why is this place left undefended?" Yang Chen questioned.
"Xuan Zhen failed to seize it last time because he was driven back by four Heaven-separated Realm experts. However, his return is inevitable. When he strikes again, this mine will surely fall. We’ve decided it’s more efficient to concentrate our forces on other sites," Guo Huaian replied.
"So the plan is simply to abandon it?" Yang Chen raised an eyebrow.
"Precisely. It has become impossible to defend," Guo Huaian admitted.
Hearing this, Yang Chen spoke with a serious tone, "Brother Guo, bring the men back to this location."
"Brother Yang Chen, what are you suggesting...?" Guo Huaian asked, visibly startled.
"Since I’ve arrived, I intend to take action. We will hold this mine. Just notify me the moment Xuan Zhen appears." Yang Chen smiled.
Guo Huaian looked as if he were on the verge of tears, replying dejectedly, "Brother Yang Chen, do you realize the scale of the casualties if we gather everyone here and Xuan Zhen begins his slaughter? You say we should just inform you, but can you actually handle the situation once we do?"
