The Return of the God Level Assassin Chapter 1283: LUO YAN'S PIECE

Luo Yan lapsed into a quiet state of reflection as he processed Su Yuqi's explanation. Initial shock eventually gave way to understanding once he attempted to view the situation from her perspective; her reasoning, while difficult, was rooted in practicality.
She was merely weighing their future through a realistic lens. It was an undeniable reality that Luo Jin was her junior. While a four-year age difference would be negligible if they were both in their late twenties, Luo Jin was only seventeen. At such a young age, those few years represented a massive gap in life experience, placing him in a different developmental stage with shifting priorities and various uncertainties. From Su Yuqi's viewpoint as the older party, that distance carried significant weight—perhaps too much.
As Su Yuqi had suggested, the intensity of Luo Jin’s current feelings might fade within a year or two. By withdrawing now, she was providing him a clean exit before their lives became too intertwined. She was choosing to sever ties now while things were still civil, rather than risking a messy and agonizing breakup in the future. In her mind, this was a selfless act intended to shield them both from inevitable heartbreak.
However, the decision also possessed a selfish quality.
It revealed a fundamental lack of confidence in Luo Jin’s character and the depth of his emotions. Although his brother was young, he was neither fickle nor dismissive of his commitments. When Luo Jin cared about something, he was notoriously earnest and headstrong. By deciding their fate unilaterally, she was denying his loyalty the opportunity to prove its worth.
Luo Yan didn't find her logic impossible to follow. In some ways, he occupied a comparable position. Even if his current body was young, his mental age far exceeded Shen Ji Yun’s in every meaningful way. Yet, unlike Su Yuqi, he had never seriously entertained the notion that Shen Ji Yun’s affection might be a passing phase. While the thought might have flickered briefly in his mind once or twice, Shen Ji Yun’s unwavering devotion and steady resolve made it impossible to remain detached. Furthermore, his own strong attraction to the man certainly helped settle the matter.
Observing Su Yuqi, Luo Yan noted that while she appeared composed, her fingers trembled slightly as she grasped her small espresso cup. He also spotted the faint shadows beneath her eyes that even careful makeup couldn't fully mask. These subtle cues betrayed just how much this decision was costing her emotionally.
He released a heavy sigh. "You should know that Ah Jin isn't in a good state after your talk. I've only seen him through our video calls, but I can tell he's not doing well at all. He even looks a little thinner."
Su Yuqi appeared visibly rattled by this revelation. A flicker of sincere concern crossed her features before she quickly suppressed it, smoothing her expression back into a neutral mask. Her eyes then narrowed as she focused on Luo Yan.
"Are you guilt tripping me?" she questioned in a low tone.
Luo Yan rubbed his cheek, looking a bit sheepish. "Okay, I might have exaggerated the 'thin' part a bit," he confessed. "But it's true that Ah Jin really looks like he's had better days."
Su Yuqi let out a long sigh of her own. Her gaze drifted away, landing on the dark liquid in her cup. A sense of heaviness filled her chest at the thought of Luo Jin's suffering. The mental image of him being miserable because of her choice sparked a deep sense of guilt, but she mentally shook herself to stay the course. She couldn't allow hesitation to take root; she had to believe this was the right path for both of them.
"I'm sure he'll get better," she eventually stated, her voice sounding firm as if she were trying to convince herself more than him.
Luo Yan studied the stubborn set of Su Yuqi's jaw. She seemed entirely resolute, as if no argument could sway her. Despite her obvious determination, he felt compelled to speak his mind for the sake of his younger brother.
"I understand where you're coming from, Sister Yuqi. Our situations are a little similar, when you think about it," he began. "Shen Ji Yun could have made the same decision you did. Not only are we both guys, but I'm also three years younger than him. On top of that, I was in a coma for years. He probably considered all those factors and more. But he still took the risk to be with me. So, I have to ask. Does Sister Yuqi think Brother Ji Yun made the wrong decision by being with me?"
Su Yuqi blinked, caught off guard by his line of reasoning. Before she could formulate a response, he pressed on.
"I know you're thinking of his future, and you believe this is the kindest choice," he said, picking his words with care. "But Sister Yuqi, not everything needs to be safe to be worth trying. Feelings are a risk. Shen Ji Yun took that risk with me. Sometimes, letting things happen is the only way to know for sure. If it doesn't work out later, then you both deal with it then. People get hurt and move on. But if you never try because you're afraid of the ending, you also guarantee there will never be a good one."
He paused for a beat before delivering his final point.
"Instead of always wondering what might go wrong, maybe you should just take the chance and see what happens. But if what you feel for him isn't enough to make that gamble... then maybe this really is for the best."
