The Return of the God Level Assassin Chapter 1281: LUO YAN'S PONDERING

A full fortnight had slipped by since the commencement of military training. Luo Yan had finally acclimatized to the grueling routine and the various tasks that occupied his time from daybreak until the stars appeared. The initial transition had been difficult. Although he carried the memories of these drills from his past life, his current physical form was an entirely different matter. This body was unaccustomed to the relentless exercise, the endless laps, and the heavy physical strain of the program. Every night, his muscles throbbed with pain, and he would collapse onto his mattress feeling utterly spent.

However, progress followed persistence, and his physique gradually adjusted. The daily runs became less taxing, the drills felt more intuitive, and the sharp ache in his limbs softened into a manageable exhaustion. At last, his body was synchronizing with the demanding pace of the training.

Another fixed element of his new life was the presence of Shen Ji Yun. Initially, Shen Ji Yun had intended to visit every day, bearing gifts of food. Luo Yan had to intervene, however. He pointed out that if Shen Ji Yun appeared every single lunch hour, it would inevitably draw unwanted attention. While Luo Yan wasn't opposed to their relationship being public eventually, the timing was currently inappropriate. Furthermore, he had a practical concern: Shen Ji Yun’s constant presence would hinder Luo Yan’s ability to bond with his classmates. It was impossible to forge connections with his squad if every spare moment was dedicated to Shen Ji Yun.

Confronted with these logical points, Shen Ji Yun had no choice but to suppress his quiet protests and yield to Luo Yan’s wishes.

Thanks to this compromise, Luo Yan finally had the opportunity to socialize with the other students in his unit. He began sharing meals and brief rest periods with a small group of them. Before long, he had established a friendly rapport with most of the squad, which he viewed as a positive step. His previous life had taught him that building a network within one's major was vital. Group assignments could quickly devolve into nightmares if one lacked a good relationship with their peers. Beyond that, general social harmony made the entire college experience much smoother to navigate.

He wasn't suggesting that he needed to be a people-pleaser or cater to everyone's whims. Doing so would only make him look like a pushover, which was an image he wanted to avoid. Maintaining a perfect balance was key. His goal was to be seen as a sociable, approachable classmate—someone who was reliable in a team setting but remained distant from gossip and unnecessary drama.

Having already experienced the complexities of youth once before, he understood that a tranquil college existence was the most effective way to truly appreciate it.

Shen Ji Yun continued to visit on weekends. Whenever Luo Yan wasn't too exhausted from the week's drills, the pair would head out for dinner. This was how the first two weeks of his training passed.

Naturally, he made sure to call home periodically. He was well aware that his father would likely fly into a panic and rush to the campus if he didn't check in regularly. It was during these phone conversations that Luo Yan picked up on a shift in his two brothers' temperaments.

Luo Ren seemed to radiate a more cheerful and liberated aura lately. It appeared as though he had cast off a heavy burden and decided to pursue his own desires. His tone during their chats was noticeably more lighthearted. Luo Jin, conversely, was trapped in a dark and sullen mood. He sounded abrupt and snappy over the phone, behaving as if the entire world was an annoyance he was forced to endure.

Luo Yan could only attribute this shift in behavior to one thing: their respective love lives. Aside from family, the only person capable of influencing his eldest brother to such a degree was Yu Jiao. The same logic applied to Luo Jin. Yet, while Luo Ren seemed to be flourishing, the situation was clearly the opposite for their youngest brother.

He couldn't help but wonder what had transpired between Luo Jin and Su Yuqi.

Luo Yan had attempted to ask Luo Jin directly, but his younger brother was a closed book, shutting down any line of questioning. The only information Luo Yan managed to gather came from their father. His dad mentioned that Su Yuqi and her father had traveled to S City, and that Luo Jin had practically begged to attend a charity gala there just to see her. Apparently, a meeting did occur, and they spoke. Their father was in the dark regarding the details of the conversation, as Luo Jin had bolted from the event immediately afterward. Since that day, Luo Jin’s temperament had been foul.

It was obvious that the gala was the catalyst for this change. Had Luo Jin and Su Yuqi argued? That didn't seem likely. Given how deeply Luo Jin was infatuated with Su Yuqi, he would never intentionally pick a fight with her. Could it have been something Su Yuqi said to him instead?

The event in question had taken place over a week ago. Judging by his brother’s lingering gloom, the two had yet to reconcile. The fact that the bad mood persisted suggested that this wasn't a minor tiff. Was it something more substantial? Was that why Luo Jin remained so troubled?

Because Luo Jin refused to divulge anything, Luo Yan decided to approach Su Yuqi for answers. Since he was currently stationed in B City, a face-to-face meeting was easy to arrange. He had already sent her a message requesting to meet over the coming weekend, though he was still waiting for her reply.

As if responding to his internal monologue, a WeChat alert pinged from his smartphone. He glanced at the screen and found a fresh notification from Su Yuqi.
