The Invincible Full-Moon System Chapter 1768: Alone in The Aftermath
Previously on The Invincible Full-Moon System...
Adhara gazed upward at the small blood moon hovering in the sky.
It had materialized from nothingness, an unseen energy native to this specific domain.
"The passage of time is different within this realm," she whispered, her eyes shining with wonder at the magnificent sight unfolding before her. "Only days have passed for us, but for him... his strength has reached a level far beyond our last meeting."
As was his custom, Rex continued his relentless ascent toward the peak of power.
There was no indication that his momentum was fading.
Watching the blood moon take its final form, a wide, joyful grin spread across her face.
For the members of the Silverstar Pack, witnessing Rex’s rapid evolution had always been a terrifying, constant reality.
This was particularly true for the Female Alpha.
While some might find it disheartening to constantly chase Rex’s shadow, Adhara felt something different now.
At this very moment, for the first time, an overwhelming sense of relief washed over her.
‘Choosing to hunt Sven and engage him in battle... I made the correct decision,’ she reflected internally. She felt a surge of happiness that the path she once feared was reckless had proven to be the right one. ‘If I hadn’t taken that risk, I would have been left in the dust. But I truly did grow stronger.’
"He certainly has," Evelyn chimed in. "And you have as well..."
Adhara glanced at Evelyn, feeling a hint of astonishment.
For some reason, Evelyn had begun manifesting strange abilities she had never displayed previously.
She was suppressing their pack bonds, utilizing her Luna energy for long-distance communication with other members, and now she even seemed capable of basic mind-reading. Adhara let out a soft laugh, realizing that Evelyn, much like herself, was undergoing her own Cultivation of power.
NGOONG—!
Suddenly, a heavy, vacuum-like roar echoed as the atmosphere was sucked toward Rex.
Crimson moonlight drenched Rex’s frame, saturating him with raw power.
In the following heartbeat, the collision occurred.
CRACK—!
Though not inherently destructive to the surroundings, the sound of the concluding strike erupted like a violent thunderclap.
A turbulent gale swept past them.
Because of the massive energy involved—surpassing everyone in the Silverstar Pack except Rex—both Adhara and Evelyn braced for a shockwave that would level everything. However, it never came. Though the force was colossal, its execution was so precise and instantaneous that it bled into the air before it could cause any real damage to them.
The individual receiving the blow, however, suffered a different fate.
Adhara and Evelyn touched down on the earth with grace.
Nearby, Flunra and Gistella also descended, appearing entirely unscathed.
In contrast to the four of them, the landscape for miles had been utterly flattened.
It looked as though the region had always been nothing but a barren plain.
The only thing visible in the distance was a structure where a few statues still stood tall.
They all looked up to see the miniature blood moon dissolving into the void, giving way to a clear, sunny sky. The blinding light and golden clouds had vanished—a clear sign of the enemy's fall.
Even the army of celestial warriors that had choked the sky was gone.
Not a single one remained, having been shattered by the overwhelming force of the final strike.
For a brief interval, the pack could sense Rex’s presence ahead of them.
But a lingering cloud of dust made them hesitate for a second—a pause born from the fear that the Archangel of Knives might have survived. Had that been the case, Rex surely would have signaled them to stay back.
Because he remained silent, the Archangel of Knives was presumed dead.
As they penetrated the center of the dust cloud, Rex’s silhouette finally became clear.
He had already shifted back to his human form, his body covered in various injuries.
The wounds were small but numerous, and strangely, none were shedding blood.
Given his usually monstrous rate of regeneration, this was a startling sight, proving just how much the fight had drained his physical reserves. "Help him recover—Evelyn," Gistella urged with concern. "Why are you just standing there?"
Evelyn offered no response.
This forced Gistella to move toward Rex herself, but Flunra reached out to stop her.
"Wait... his heart is racing too fast," Flunra cautioned, sensing the frantic rhythm in Rex’s chest. "And his scent has shifted slightly."
Rex slowly turned his head to look at them before fully facing the group.
The entire Silverstar Pack froze. Instead of the expected crimson, they were met with a pair of brilliant, unnatural golden eyes. Two spheres of molten gold glowed where his eyes should be—a sight that felt completely alien, as his gaze had almost always been a fierce red until this moment.
"Rex...?" Evelyn whispered tentatively.
The pack waited in a tense, heavy silence for him to respond.
Most of them feared that some external entity had seized control of his body.
But those were merely their anxieties.
"Hmm, what’s the matter?" Rex asked, his voice light but heavy with exhaustion. The burning gold in his eyes slowly receded, revealing the familiar crimson underneath—the eyes they all knew. "Is the fight not over? What’s going on?"
Seeing him immediately straighten his back and prepare for another battle, the others could only offer wry smiles.
It appeared Rex was still himself.
"I believe you owe us an explanation regarding those eyes," Adhara noted, shaking her head with a hint of annoyance.
"You have transformed significantly, Royal Black Prince," Flunra remarked, stroking his chin while nodding in approval of the power Rex now commanded. Rex was steadily surpassing the legends of the past royals. "You are beginning to resemble the Origin."
"Why are you all being so harsh?" Gistella countered, approaching Rex with worry. "How do you feel?"
Listening to their bickering, Rex’s lips curved into a faint smile.
To them, this might have been a minor event.
But for someone who had been struggling and Cultivating in this realm for years, the sound of their casual banter provided immense comfort. It would be a lie to claim it didn't affect him; Rex had deeply missed his companions and the Mortal Realm.
Now that the Archangel of Knives was gone and his primary goals were met, only Devo was left.
However, armed with his new strength and the secret from Empress Morgana, Rex felt a surge of confidence.
The time for his return was drawing near.
"But seriously, Rex, what caused that golden glow in your eyes?" Evelyn inquired with curiosity.
She had noticed his eyes earlier and felt he was behaving out of character.
It was something that genuinely troubled her.
"The good news is that it has made me much stronger..."
"And the bad news?"
"The bad news is that I am now caught in a race to become the most powerful. I will explain everything once we are back home."
Gistella, who was helping him stand, asked, "Aren't you returning with us now?"
"The items I needed are secured. Now, I just have to save Devo, which shouldn't take long." Rex reached out and patted Gistella’s head. "I promise I’ll be back soon. You won't even realize I was gone."
"Yes, I’ll be waiting for you!" Gistella replied with an eager nod.
Observing their intimate moment, Adhara stepped forward and nudged Gistella aside.
"That's quite enough," she said, positioning herself between them. "I didn't come all this way to watch this."
"Yes, that's enough," Evelyn joined in, her voice sounding sharper than usual. "We are leaving now. You still have tasks to complete, right? We won't waste any more of your time. Just finish up and return to us."
Adhara and Gistella looked at Evelyn, catching the pointed look she was giving them.
It was a clear signal to stop the playfulness.
"But you don't actually have to rush," Gistella added with a nervous laugh as she moved back to Evelyn’s side.
"Right, take whatever time you need," Adhara agreed, turning to walk away. "Just make sure you finish everything here."
Rex was left momentarily speechless by their sudden departure.
"Hey—wait! Do you have to leave so fast? I don't think the Spirit Realm is forcing you out yet," he grumbled. In his state of total exhaustion, he wanted them to stay longer. "Why are you in such a hurry?"
"Yeah, what's the rush?" Flunra asked, equally puzzled.
His only answer was a sharp slap to the back of the head from Adhara.
"Just come with us and stop asking questions," Adhara hissed, wrapping an arm around Flunra’s neck and pulling him toward the others. "I am your Female Alpha, aren't I? Since Rex is... busy, you follow my lead."
"But Rex is standing right—"
"No arguments," she interrupted firmly. "We are leaving. Now."
They all gave Rex one final smile before their forms dissolved into pure energy, leaving Flunra behind in his state of confusion. No one had given Rex a real reason for their haste.
Even Gistella, who usually stayed by his side, remained silent.
In an instant, Rex was solitary once more.
"What is going through their heads?" Rex sat on the ground, running a hand through his damp hair as he tried to catch his breath. "They are definitely keeping something from me. Since Flunra was clueless, it must involve those three and maybe Kyran."
"Speaking of which, what’s going on with Kyran?" he muttered to himself.
Evelyn’s answer regarding Kyran had been suspiciously vague, sparking his curiosity.
He hoped Kyran wasn't finding himself in more trouble, though he doubted it. Kyran had matured; he should be beyond getting into pointless messes by now.
Suddenly, Rex tilted his head as a whisper reached his ears—it was Evelyn’s voice.
"I spoke with Empress Morgana. I asked her not to interfere in exchange for your help in hiding this event. We struck a deal, but do not actually help her. I can sense she is still a threat. She is an enemy. Kill her if the opportunity arises."
"Hmm... is that so?"
Rex thought to himself.
He remembered Empress Morgana’s warning about the platform and Stelios. He had assumed she possessed some small measure of compassion, especially after he had worked so hard for her requests.
He believed she wanted to help him, but that circumstances had prevented her.
That was why she had provided the Phoenix Feather and the Maw of Oblivion.
But if Evelyn said otherwise, he would trust her judgment.
Despite his own history with Empress Morgana, Evelyn was the one who had sensed the danger, which had prepared him for Stelios’ arrival. If she labeled Empress Morgana an enemy, then that was how it would be.
After a moment, Rex pushed himself up and walked toward the Tomb of Heroes.
He stepped over a body.
It was the corpse of Stelios.
The powerful figure from before was gone. Now, his skin was a sickly gray, and his chest was nearly split in two. The sockets where his golden eyes had once blazed were now hollow, containing only a dying spark of their former light.
He was a miserable shell of his former self.
Rex paused, looking between the Tomb of Heroes and the remains of Stelios.
He was weighing his options.
"Amanir should have opened the chest by now, but April..." Rex clenched his teeth, his anger still simmering over what had happened to her. "She isn't dead. That Archangel ensured she stayed alive. But I’m still worried."
Finally, Rex knelt down next to Stelios’ body.
Without a second thought, he began to tear into the corpse, consuming it piece by piece.
He needed to check on April, but restoring his own body was the immediate priority.
His Qi and regeneration were completely spent, leaving him with no choice but to feast on Stelios’ remains. And he did so without hesitation.
