The Invincible Full-Moon System Chapter 1746: Without My Consent
"Do you have to do it like this...?"
Evelyn pushed Rex’s hand away, slightly annoyed that he would even think of doing this.
It was especially so when the thought of him coming back a different person had crossed her mind.
Though if she were to tell the truth, she was more annoyed that she fell for that more than Rex deciding to tease them like this. She would’ve never thought that Rex would do this—especially considering how sudden his departure was.
He should be apologizing by now, not doing this.
"Seeing how scared you were, I really got you good, huh?" Rex asked with a small chuckle.
"You’re mistaken," Evelyn turned her face away, trying to remain calm. "I’m only playing along."
"Is that why your heart is racing?"
"You’re hearing things."
"Really? Then what about your pale complexion?"
"Are you having fun?"
Evelyn looked at him sharply, angry that he would drop this, which made her look cuter than normal.
But maybe it’s because it has been quite some time since Rex last saw her.
Either way, he got a good chuckle out of doing this.
"Master, I really missed you," Gistella suddenly pinched Rex’s shirt from the side and pressed her own forehead against his shoulder. "You left without saying goodbye to us, and you didn’t even tell us exactly when you’re going to come back..."
"I told you no more calling me that—when we are not alone, didn’t I?" Rex turned to Gistella.
"Sorry... You scared me earlier," Gistella pouted. "It’s not funny for us, you know."
"I was only playing around," Rex rubbed her head.
Perhaps it was him, but for some reason, Gistella was clingier than the last time he saw her.
But then again, leaving without saying anything must’ve spooked her.
"Stop clinging to him like that, Gistella," Evelyn said from behind, staring at her with a reluctant gaze. "You have been using his clone as a pillow for three nights straight now—and you acted like you haven’t seen him?"
Gistella recoiled at Evelyn’s sudden bluntness.
She looked over her shoulder with a wry smile, "Th-That’s because I can’t sleep if he’s not around..."
"Sleep?" Evelyn sneered. "I think you’re doing anything but sleeping with all those noises."
"Don’t say it like that..." Gistella buried her face on Rex’s chest again. "It sounded like I was making sure you heard it."
"Are you?" Evelyn raised a brow. "It’s intentional if you asked me.’
Seeing them arguing, Rex was perplexed.
He wasn’t expecting them to argue when they were supposed to be having quality time with him.
Back then, he created his clone with an identical aura to his to help the others if there was anyone who caught a sniff that he wasn’t around. Seeing his silhouette would’ve spooked anyone who thought he wasn’t there to protect them and the empire.
Never would he have thought that it would create a rift between the girls.
"Alright, alright, that’s enough," Rex’s voice thundered again, stopping their quarrels. "I don’t have that much time to stay here and talk, so why not tell me what happened back home during the time I’m not around? Anything new?"
Evelyn should know more about the situation compared to Adhara.
It would be best if he could catch up when he came back later.
But the girls have no intention of telling him.
"We can talk about those dull matters once you return. You’ll learn everything soon enough, so why the rush?" Evelyn asked, closing the distance step by step, her gaze cutting sharper than usual. "Instead, let us use this time to talk about the Spirit Realm."
"Yes, I want to hear it too," Gistella added quietly. "I wanted to know all the details."
"You hear that?" Evelyn murmured as she rose onto her toes, bringing her face beside Rex’s. Her breath traced his skin as she spoke into his ear. "All the details. That includes the people accompanying you there, and how many you turned into a pack member."
Her lips hovered an inch from his ear—almost like she wanted Rex to really listen.
"As your Luna, I want to know. No..." She whispered with an edged voice. "I need to know..."
Rex exhaled through his mouth.
He’d hoped they would be the ones to tell him what happened back home, so that he could prepare, or maybe even slip and reveal what they’d really been doing in his absence. Instead, they flipped the entire conversation with ease, ganging up on him from both fronts.
And now he found himself cornered, the one expected to explain everything.
But then again, he was already prepared for this.
It was natural for them to ask questions about this, and he fortunately anticipated this ahead of time.
Even though he was reluctant to be the one being questioned, he let it slide this time.
Earlier, Rex teased them not only because he wanted to, but also because he wanted to test if the situation they were hiding in was something really dire. Had the situation been really—as bad as he thought, he would be able to see a crack in their expressions.
Since there weren’t any, the situation should be manageable.
Of course, Evelyn could easily hide things from him as she has the capability to do so.
No matter how much he pressed, she would always have the capability to trick him.
But Gistella? She’s an entirely different case.
Earlier, when he was pressing Evelyn, his eyes were locked onto Gistella to see her reactions.
Her expressions were more honest than Evely’s, and she showed no cracks.
So, the situation shouldn’t be that bad.
In the next fifteen minutes or so, Rex told them about the Spirit Realm, exactly as he told Adhara.
He avoided going into too much detail when he was talking about how he came to power.
As a matter of fact, he skipped April entirely—and only told them about Princess Davina, whom he was engaged to, in order to reach where he wanted. Of course, coming to know about this dynamic soured their expressions more than Rex anticipated.
"Our bond is strictly that of a partnership," Rex said, shrugging his shoulders. "That is, until recently."
"Recently?" Evelyn raised a brow, eyes narrowing.
"She’s a pack member now," Rex said truthfully. "She helped me a lot in the Spirit Realm. I can even go as far as to say that I couldn’t get what I wanted without her help. After all, the people in that realm are far stronger than me."
Evelyn and Gistella don’t sound surprised.
In fact, the two already knew that the beings in the Spirit Realm were stronger.
Not because they are inherently more talented than they are, but because of their circumstances.
Soon, very soon, with the new circumstances, the Mortal Realm might be a match for those in the Spirit Realm, as the mana concentration was rising. The path to reach the tenth rank or higher is now possible, and that was proven by the existence of those Order Beasts.
"I’m sure even without her, you’ll find a way," Evelyn turned away. "You’re that persistent."
She was clearly emotional, but Rex didn’t understand why this bothered her so much.
Evelyn was the empress.
It would be understandable if Adhara were the one being emotional, not her.
Noticing his confusion, Gistella smiled wryly, "She’s a princess..."
Only then did Rex realize his mistake.
Being engaged to Princess Davina isn’t the problem here, but it was the fact that she’s a princess.
Evelyn, Adhara, and Gistella don’t have a good memory of a princess.
After all, Calidora blindsided them.
"Davina isn’t that kind of a person," Rex muttered, shaking his head. "If anything, you’d like her more than you think. Besides, now that she’s part of the pack, you outrank her by a lot. If the two of you ever cross paths, she’ll answer to you."
That’s not a lie.
Unlike Mira, who was still disobedient, Princess Davina acknowledged him as the Alpha.
Naturally, she would also respect Evelyn as the Luna.
Feeling tension in the air, Gistella quickly changed the topic.
"What about the items you needed?" She asked. "How did you get it?"
"I’m actually on the way to get them right now," Rex answered. "I made a deal with the empress."
Evelyn turned to look at Rex when she heard this—there was a slight frown on her face.
It didn’t go unnoticed to Rex, though.
"I think we’ve talked long enough," Rex said, standing up and nudging his chin towards the jar. "Let’s talk again later when I come back. I think I’m almost arrived at the meeting point."
"Okay," Gistella holds his hand. "I hope everything went well."
As she said that, her body puffed into smoke and was sucked into the jar, leaving this grey space.
But the moment she left, Rex’s eyes landed on Evelyn.
"You have something to say to me?" He asked, tilting his head a little. "I can see it in your eyes."
"Yes," Evelyn rose as well, clasping her hands elegantly before her abdomen while her gaze fixed on Rex. "Those items you’re trying to find, they matter to you—greatly. Are you really certain it’s the best idea to leave it in someone else’s hands?"
Evelyn didn’t say it outright, but Rex knew what she was trying to say.
She has her doubts, and it was entirely admissible.
Unlike him, who developed a natural bias for being the one who had met with Empress Morgana, Evelyn saw it objectively. And she was saying that he was basically letting his fate be in the hands of others, and that’s never a good idea.
"Even so, it’s already too late," Rex crossed his arms. "I’m already on my way there."
"In that case, can you do this..." Evelyn approached and whispered something to him.
Hearing this, Rex’s eyes sparked for a moment.
He stared at Evelyn with an evident frown, surprised to hear what she was planning.
<Affirmative.>
<It will highly depend on the burst, but it’s possible.>
<However, it can only last half an hour maximum.>
Rex’s eyes sparked as he scanned her from top to bottom.
And it was then he realized where she got this information from.
"It’s entirely possible, and to better prepare myself and ease your concern, I’ll do it," Rex gave Evelyn a nod—pleased that she could identify a possible problem and even had a solution for it. "You’re really a great help."
"Then, I’ll be leaving," Evelyn made a curtsy and turned around.
But a few steps away, she stopped again.
"Oh, and also, you’ve never introduced me to that being inside your earrings," Rex said suddenly.
It caught Evelyn off guard.
She slowly turned around, meeting Rex’s sharp gaze again.
"Though I’m grateful that the being in those earrings helped you give me a solution," Rex said, his gaze narrowing to a knife’s edge with lethal intent. "But I never permitted anyone to whisper in your ears... did I?"
His voice dropped to a smooth, lethal level.
One that made Evelyn unconsciously sweat a little, knowing that this time, Rex was being serious.
She could feel that he was being serious.
No playing around.
Rex raised a finger—like he was reprimanding Evelyn, but his eyes were not on her, but fixated on the moon earrings, "Anyone who draws near to any of you does so only with my permission. If they dared to come close without it, then they are approaching my den without my consent."
"And those people have no reason to exist at all," He added, slow and deliberate. "Do you understand?"
As he said that, he turned to look at Evelyn again, waiting for her to say something.
Soon, she finally opened her mouth, "She said, when you return, she’ll introduce herself properly."
"Good," Rex waved his hand. "Now you can leave."
