Switched Marriage: The Coddled Little Wife Chapter 807: Extra Story (Part 3)

Previously on Switched Marriage: The Coddled Little Wife...
Wang Tianxue found herself entertaining He JianShe, who had helped her move. Despite her initial hesitations about his presence, he offered to assist with her remaining unpacking. He then asked for her help in shopping for kitchen essentials, framing it as an exchange of favors. After she prepared a simple noodle lunch, He JianShe expressed his appreciation and offered to wash the dishes.

How could Wang Tianxue possibly allow a guest to handle the washing up? However, He JianShe insisted, saying, "You prepared the entire meal, so washing a couple of plates is the least I can do. If you keep acting this way, I’ll feel too guilty to stay and finish eating. Given the bond between you, my junior sister, and my father, there is no need for us to be so formal. It seems I misjudged things. I am the one who..."

"No," Wang Tianxue interjected quickly, cutting He JianShe off.

She truly hadn't intended to make him feel unwelcome.

Her only thought was that since He JianShe was a guest who had already assisted her greatly, it felt wrong to have him scrubbing dishes.

Furthermore, Wang Tianxue remained quite traditional in her heart.

During her time living with Yang Rui, she had managed every aspect of the household chores.

In this period, tasks like laundry, cooking, and maintaining the home were widely regarded as a woman's responsibility.

He JianShe had already carried the plates into the kitchen, and Wang Tianxue could still catch glimpses of him through the doorway.

The day was beautiful, with the sun casting a pleasant, warm glow.

He JianShe had removed his jacket earlier while they were moving items, as the physical labor had made him quite warm.

Currently, he was dressed only in a military-green shirt.

With his sleeves pushed up past his elbows, his sturdy, well-defined forearms were on full display.

His skin possessed a healthy, deep wheat-colored tan.

Despite his facial features appearing somewhat stern, he surprisingly had a penchant for smiling.

Wang Tianxue noticed his bright white teeth as he grinned at her again, leaving her with no choice but to smile back.

Since their very first encounter, the strongest impression He JianShe left on Wang Tianxue was his cheerful nature.

He always maintained a warm, friendly expression whenever he spoke.

She occasionally wondered if a police commissioner with such a gentle temperament could truly lead his subordinates effectively.

If he had to deal with criminals, how could he possibly conduct interrogations with such a kind face? He likely wouldn't be able to force a confession out of anyone.

The mental image of such a scene caused Wang Tianxue to let out a small laugh.

"What has you laughing?"

He JianShe inquired as he dried his hands and stepped out of the kitchen to stand before her.

Wang Tianxue tried to hide her amusement immediately, but looking at his face made it difficult to keep a straight expression.

Fighting back her giggles, she replied, "It’s nothing, I wasn't laughing at anything in particular."

He JianShe clearly didn't buy it, yet he didn't demand an answer, simply watching her with a look of quiet amusement.

Eventually, Wang Tianxue couldn't contain her laughter any longer.

He JianShe suspected the joke was at his expense, but he took no offense and simply watched her enjoy herself.

As she laughed, Wang Tianxue caught his eyes, and her face suddenly flushed a deep shade of crimson.

"Um... perhaps we should go out and buy the necessities? You’ve only had one day to rest, and it isn't easy; if we get your supplies now, you'll be able to have dinner tonight."

Otherwise, would he be forced to go without a meal?

As bright as Wang Tianxue was, she hadn't quite considered that even without a working kitchen, one could easily buy food from a restaurant.

Even for a high-ranking police commissioner, it was impossible for him to go hungry.

With his hands clasped behind his back, He JianShe followed her out of the house.

They returned to the department store, though this time the trip was to help He JianShe with his shopping.

Wang Tianxue wasn't entirely sure what He JianShe’s tastes were. While the market didn't offer a vast variety of styles, there were different patterns and sizes. She assumed a large man would prefer substantial bowls.

"Brother He, what style of bowls and plates do you prefer? And regarding this pot, should we get a small one or something larger? Perhaps a bigger one would be better, just in case you have guests or if Old He comes to visit for a few days; it should be enough."

In Wang Tianxue’s own home, she only had to cook for herself and Xiao Long, so her cookware was quite small.

He JianShe pondered for a moment before saying, "Something for three people is fine. You should pick the bowls you think are best. I don't have a strong preference; the ones you selected this morning were very nice."

Wang Tianxue: "..."

The bowls she had chosen for herself were all decorated in pinks and reds; she hadn't expected a rugged man like Brother He to have such feminine tastes.

However, Wang Tianxue didn't take his comment literally. Having known him for a little while, she realized He JianShe was simply being kind and polite.

Ultimately, Wang Tianxue selected a set of blue-themed dishes for him, along with various other household essentials.

Since there wasn't a suitable storage cabinet available, He JianShe placed an order for one identical to hers, which he would pick up in a few days.

Even though the shopping trip wasn't as extensive as her morning run, He JianShe didn't turn down her help. Consequently, she stayed to help him move the items into his new place.

The police department had assigned He JianShe an apartment in a newly built residential complex for families, situated on the third floor.

The layout consisted of three bedrooms and a living room, making it significantly more spacious than Wang Tianxue’s residence.

However, the furniture provided was clearly government-issued—standard and very traditional—giving the space the atmosphere of an old official's home.

Well, while He JianShe wasn't old, he was indeed a high-ranking cadre.

"Your apartment is truly spacious," Wang Tianxue complimented him sincerely.

Wearing his habitual smile, He JianShe replied, "The organization assigned a standard room. It feels like a waste for just one person. I told them a single dormitory room would suffice, but they insisted that looking after the personal lives of their staff is a priority. They argued that if I took a single room now, I'd just have to reapply for a house once I start a family, so arranging this now saves the organization future trouble."

"Your superiors are very thoughtful. I believe they're right; after all, hasn't Old He been eager for a grandchild?"

Back when they had dinner at Xiaxia’s house, Old He hadn't missed the chance to poke fun at Brother He about this, and Wang Tianxue had overheard the entire conversation.

He JianShe simply smiled and offered no rebuttal.

After the items were stowed in the kitchen, He JianShe checked his watch and said tentatively, "I've heard it's bad luck to eat alone for the first meal in a new home. I'm a bit clumsy and not much of a cook, so inviting a crowd would be too much—Tianxue, would you mind helping me warm the kitchen today?"

Wang Tianxue was prepared to refuse, but hearing his reasoning made it difficult to say no.

Seeing the man’s sincere and hopeful expression, she finally relented, "Alright, but I have to pick up my son soon; his school day is almost over."

He JianShe’s face lit up instantly, "That’s perfect! I’ve heard it’s even luckier to have a child present to warm a new kitchen. I’ve certainly invited the right people. What time does he get out? Let's go buy some groceries first."

"Sure, I know a market nearby where the food is both fresh and affordable."

Wang Tianxue could see that He JianShe really didn't know his way around a kitchen, so she decided to lend her expertise.

They headed to the daycare first to collect Xiao Long.

The teacher brought Xiao Long out, and the boy skipped over happily the moment he spotted his mother.

When he noticed the tall man standing beside Wang Tianxue, he blinked his large, inquisitive eyes at him.

Wang Tianxue introduced them, "This is Uncle He, say hello."

Xiao Long chirped out clearly, "Uncle He."

He JianShe gave a hearty response and leaned down to scoop the little boy up.

"Wait..."

Wang Tianxue started to protest, but He JianShe had already turned and begun walking away with the child in his arms.
