"That is enough! I will not have any more bickering between the two of you. Is that understood?"
Prima and Primus both flinched as Corey’s frigid tone filled the Forge. The childish resentment they held for one another evaporated far quicker than it had manifested.
Corey stared at them, and despite their lack of human features, he could sense their dejected expressions.
A sigh escaped his lips.
He felt a pang of guilt for shouting at the pair. In reality, they were nothing more than children.
"Fine. Look, I apologize for raising my voice, but this constant fighting has to end."
Floating slightly higher into the air, Primus pointed a finger at Prima.
"She was the one who started it."
Prima shook her head forcefully. "Nuh-uh. You're a liar. It was you."
"You mocked me while I was telling Papa how powerful I’ve become. You called me a baby for talking to Papa!"
"Because you are one! Why don't you just hop around screaming 'Look at me! Look at me!' besides, you called me a baby first. This is just my payback." Prima crossed her arms and tilted her chin upward. Corey was certain he could detect a hint of a smug grin on her 'face'.
Primus began to shake violently with indignation before erupting.
"You—you—you’re the baby! You are a giant baby!"
Prima 'sneered' at him. "Are you going to cry? Is little baby Primus going to shed some tears?"
"You—you—you..."
Corey rubbed his eyes with his hand, letting out a weary sigh as it became clear that Primus and Prima were on the verge of actually trading blows.
"Stop it," he commanded, his voice laced with cold frustration.
"But—"
Prima attempted to defend herself, but Corey cut her off immediately.
"I said stop. I told you both: no more fighting."
Looking at Corey with an innocent gaze, Prima spoke up.
"We aren't fighting, Papa. We are just having a verbal argument. If we actually fought, we would level this entire place."
Corey’s mouth twitched, but before he could respond, Primus chimed in.
"Exactly, Papa. We wouldn't want to do that since you are still so weak. We might kill you by mistake."
A vein throbbed in Corey’s temple. He gave Primus a smile that carried no warmth.
"Both of you, be quiet."
"Yes, Papa!" they shouted in unison. Pamela, who had been observing the exchange with a bewildered look, was stunned by how quickly the two mischievous spirits obeyed and fell silent.
She was unaware that the moment Corey told them to be quiet, they had glimpsed his internal thoughts—and those thoughts were terrifying.
He had envisioned a dozen different methods of punishment, each one enough to send a shiver down their metaphorical spines.
Watching Prima and Primus, Corey couldn't help but think of his own parents.
Was this the burden they carried while raising him?
Had they been this exhausted all the time?
How had they managed when he and Anna were small children?
Corey had a mountain of questions for his parents, but they were gone, and he would never get his answers. What he didn't realize was that biological children were significantly more taxing than these spirits.
"Reveal your spirit bodies to me. You’ve been keeping them hidden, haven't you? Show me so I can see what you look like."
After sharing a glance, Prima and Primus nodded.
"Understood, Papa."
Arcing golden lightning danced across their forms before a brilliant flash illuminated the Forge for a brief moment, forcing Corey and Pamela to shield their eyes.
When they looked again, their eyes widened in surprise at the sight of the spirit bodies belonging to Primus and Prima.
The first thing that caught Corey off guard and left Pamela breathless was their diminutive scale.
The spirit bodies of Prima and Primus were no larger than a person's pinky finger.
They drifted toward Corey, hovering directly in front of his face so he could inspect them closely.
He turned his attention to Primus first, immediately noticing the crown atop his head.
Primus wore a golden crown fashioned from miniature swords that rotated slowly, connected by thin threads of golden lightning.
Then, Corey looked at the face.
Primus shared an uncanny resemblance to Corey’s own features; if one looked closely, he appeared to be a perfect miniature replica of Corey as a young child.
However, the eyes were a striking difference.
Primus possessed eyes made of transparent glass, with pupils shaped like crystal-clear swords.
His hair was long, a blend of white and black that mirrored Corey’s own locks.
His skin was as pale as fresh snow. Dressed in black shorts and a sleeveless black tank top with bare feet, he looked like a modern martial artist or a prize fighter.
Corey studied Primus for a moment longer before shifting his gaze to Prima.
Just like her counterpart, Prima possessed a distinct and striking look.
The first details he noted were the three interlocking, smoky glass rings that swirled around her.
She was encased within these three rings, and Corey felt a deep curiosity regarding their nature and purpose.
He kept his questions to himself for the moment.
As Corey looked at Prima’s face, his pupils contracted. The resemblance to his mother was overwhelming; though there were subtle differences, it was clear she had modeled her appearance after her.
Closing his eyes, Corey let out a quiet sigh before continuing his inspection.
Unlike the unique eyes of Primus, Prima’s eyes were entirely black, save for a white ring at the very center.
Her hair was a deep, solid black, and her skin was a rich chocolate tone, contrasting with Primus’s fair complexion.
She was dressed in a pristine white gown that flowed down to her ankles. Like Primus, she wore no shoes.
Corey glanced once more at the face that reminded him so much of his mother, then shook his head to clear his thoughts.
"Those three rings encircling you, and your eyes..." He then looked back at Primus. "That sword crown and your eyes as well..."
He looked between the two of them.
"What is the purpose of these features?"
