His Unique Armor
Designing a unique armor proved more challenging for Corey than envisioning a unique weapon, primarily because armor, by its very nature, seemed more limited in its variation.
The fundamental goal of a weapon is to kill, and the methods for ending a life are nearly infinite.
Endless.
This reality allows for a vast array of weapon types and a multitude of specialized abilities that can be imbued within them.
But what about armor?
Its sole function is protection, and the ways to defend oneself are far less numerous than the ways to deal death.
Corey had harbored these thoughts before, yet the armor he envisioned was far from ordinary; it was not meant to possess merely average skills.
He desired a suit of armor capable of adapting to the nature of incoming strikes.
In his mind, the armor would solidify to withstand slashing blades, yet it would turn flexible and soft to dissipate the impact of blunt force.
He imagined it becoming porous, much like a sponge, to soak up energy-based strikes. Furthermore, it should be capable of microscopic shape-shifting to deflect and redirect any force that struck its surface.
He wanted his armor to be a living, breathing entity.
Beyond simply stopping physical blows and mana-based techniques, he required his armor to be capable of shielding him against spiritual, soul, and Will attacks.
There were several other traits he wanted it to have, including the ability to harmonize with the elements.
While most Blacksmiths focus on crafting gear that resists specific elements, Corey’s goal was to create armor that harmonized with all nine elements rather than just fighting against them.
His vision was for the armor to absorb elemental damage and transform it into temporary enhancements while carefully avoiding any elemental backlash or overload.
For instance, a strike of fire might increase his movement speed and the armor's own offensive capabilities.
A lightning-based attack could sharpen his reaction time.
Meanwhile, an earth attack would bolster his stability and defensive power.
Naturally, there would be a ceiling to how high these buffs could climb, but such a creation would become the ultimate nemesis for mages and any beings who utilized elements as their primary weapon.
Corey also wanted his armor to possess the ability to consume other armors, ores, and metals to fuel its own growth.
This concept of devouring was inspired by the Devourer’s Armor he currently owned, which restricted him from equipping any other gear.
The Devourer’s Armor also held a hidden ability that he had never utilized, as it had not been practical for his needs until now.
Manifestation.
The concept of Manifestation reminded Corey of a specific ability from an anime his sister adored.
In that show, the power was called Susanoo, and the Devourer’s Armor possessed a near-identical function.
He had earned the Devourer’s Armor as a trophy for killing the Demi-Cosmic Fog Devourer within his school's dungeon; its true form was a centipede-like entity rooted in his heart.
It was this parasitic creature that forbade him from donning any protective gear other than the Devourer’s Armor itself.
Should he attempt to wear any other armor, the creature would attempt to execute him by devouring his heart.
During his time as a Tier 1 and Tier 2 Cultivator, the true body of the Devourer’s Armor was a mortal threat to him.
However, upon reaching Tier 3 and gaining deeper insights through the Underworld and The Archive, the armor was no longer a danger he couldn't manage.
The Manifestation skill allowed him to project the true form of the Devourer’s Armor externally, surrounding his body.
This technique would summon a colossal centipede-like monster to shield him from harm, functioning exactly like a Susanoo.
It would be as if he were being guarded by the Demi-Cosmic Fog Devourer itself, albeit at a significantly higher Tier.
This Manifestation could also strike out at enemies, making it an incredibly versatile asset in combat.
Nevertheless, Corey avoided using the skill—and even the armor itself—whenever possible. He knew that the more he utilized Manifestation and fed the armor to evolve it, the deeper its true body fused with his heart, his spirit, and his Will.
In the past, Corey assumed that Manifestation only required a massive amount of spiritual energy to function.
A truly immense amount.
But his instincts had always warned him to be wary of the Devourer’s Armor, and he had wisely chosen to listen.
Only after learning about the nature of Wills did he realize the truth: the armor wasn't just fueled by spiritual energy. To manifest, it needed to feast upon his unformed Will.
As it consumed his unformed Will, the armor’s own Will grew more powerful. Eventually, it would attempt to swallow his entire being and his Will whole.
The Devourer’s Armor was nothing more than a ticking time bomb, and Corey had no desire for such a liability.
That was the reason he so rarely called upon its power.
As for why he hadn't discarded it yet?
It was because he already planned to forge his own unique armor. The only other piece of equipment that had ever piqued his interest was the Gravenheart Armor, which he received after his victory.
Finally, Corey wanted his future armor to be able to grow alongside him, much like Primus.
There were various smaller requirements Corey wanted to include, though they were less vital than the core functions.
For example, he wanted Partial Manifestation—the ability to summon only specific parts of the armor’s projected form rather than the whole thing.
He also intended for the armor to store the energy it absorbed from enemy strikes, allowing him to discharge it at will or whenever it reached full capacity.
Corey desired all these features in a single set of armor. Had any ordinary Blacksmith heard his list of demands, they would have certainly branded him a lunatic.
