Shota returned to the flame elementals sooner than expected, facing their hopeful gazes as he dashed their expectations by requesting they halt the upcoming ceremony. The elementals accepted his words without protest, referencing a prophecy that cautioned against proceeding until matters settled. The ancestors then appeared, pulling Shota aside to reveal that the array's cold serves as a barrier to deter humans from disturbing the seal containing the elementals.

The primary cause for sealing the elementals stemmed from their drawing in undesirable notice from the Destruction forces.

Those Destruction forces desired to claim the elementals for themselves due to their unique power.

That's the reason seals were imposed to confine them, masked as a prize for their role in the gods' war.

Yet, they took it even further by blocking off the territory above those seals...

They actually extended their efforts this much solely to deter folks from approaching these spots.

Even if it felt somewhat unjust, I couldn't deny the success of their approach.

In truth, the locations housing the seals were deemed forbidden zones that no one dared venture into. Moreover, with zero benefits from probing those areas, they ended up utterly deserted.

One must consider what lies ahead, however.

As the continent's races expanded further, their demand for territory increased steadily.

Should they eventually run out of room to expand, wouldn't they seek methods to colonize these forbidden regions?

Ultimately, it boiled down to pure need.

That said, the continent remained far from hitting that stage, and prior to any such crisis, I was dispatched to aid the elementals and uncovered all these details.

"Do the gods truly foresee every event, or do they simply orchestrate them?"

The progression of events suggested the second option held more truth.

Nevertheless, now wasn't the moment to dwell on that.

Rather, I questioned the ancestors, "How does it function? Creation divine energy isn't supposed to operate this way—it forms items from void, without transforming existing matter into something else."

In response, the ancestors merely shook their heads and replied, "We possess no knowledge of such matters. That's the realm of the gods; it's beyond us mere elementals."

A sense of deep respect colored their words as they spoke.

Unlike fellow elementals, these pair genuinely believed in and obeyed the gods.

That made sense, given their participation in the war where they witnessed divine might firsthand, fostering such devotion.

Regardless, I needed to uncover the issue with the red gem and the pillar performing this feat.

"For starters, mortals can't wield divine energy. Thus, it's odd that elementals could trigger it merely through their rituals."

Pinpointing the issue didn't take much time, yet it failed to resolve things until I decided to examine the red gem up close.

Chatting with the ancestors had unraveled the entire enigma.

The red gem generated that chill to repel intruders, and instructions came to skip the ceremony while I stayed, allowing my presence here. Indeed, the surface above would turn utterly lifeless if the chill intensified beyond current levels.

Thus, my role was to stay put in that spot until everything concluded.

A nagging sensation told me the seal on the rock elementals' domain wasn't quite as harsh as this...

Yet, it hardly fell to me to critique the gods' blueprint.

Accompanying the ancestors, I approached the red gem.

I might have joined the other fire elementals, but the ancestors displayed interest in my search. Apparently, even they lacked familiarity with this artifact.

After inspecting the red gem briefly, its nature became clear to me.

Previously, I hadn't scrutinized the red gem or pillar in detail, too absorbed by the feeling of channeling divine energy into them.

However, a closer inspection revealed an oddity.

The anomaly lay in mortals' ability to ignite it via ceremonies, enabled by a divine energy array etched upon it.

Initially baffling, comprehension dawned gradually as I gazed longer.

Though puzzled by my capacity to discern the array, I saw it permitted mortal activation of the red gem.

This stemmed from mortals' inability to harness divine energy's complete might, necessitating the array to reshape that force for their purposes.

Yet, this bore a drawback: the transmutation of one substance to another.

Such alteration served as the required balance to facilitate the shift.

The gods appeared to have anticipated every detail in crafting it.

Without my refills, sustaining its operation would prove impossible. During the shift, portions of the creation divine energy got consumed, accelerating the red gem's depletion.

Observing the array on the red gem stirred a urge to refine it.

No real benefit existed here, yet an impulse drove me to mend this imperfection...

"If a substitute could replace this cost, it might ease the burden on the red gem's creation divine energy. But what could possibly serve as that alternative?"

Gradually, my face shifted as I mulled over the query, arriving at a solution.

The only hitch was my reluctance to experiment with it.
