Shota's Isekai NTR Adventure Chapter 1973 1973: She’s just lazy (3)

Upon sensing the threat, my immediate instinct was to lift my palm and concentrate my divine energy.
I stood ready to unleash an attack that would cleanse the approaching wave of corruption energy.
However, a shimmering barrier manifested around me before the mass of corruption could make contact.
This shield, forged from pure divine energy, acted as a wall that kept the corruption energy at bay.
While this barrier was remarkably potent and theoretically possessed the strength to purge the corruption, it failed to do so. Instead, it merely seemed to irritate or sting the dark energy rather than neutralizing it.
Despite being composed of high-level divine energy, its interaction with the corruption energy was surprisingly ineffective.
"As you can see, this is the reason why I can't deal with this destruction energy." Insectum remarked suddenly from my flank.
Remaining silent, I focused my attention entirely on the divine energy within the barrier.
After a brief observation, the core of the problem became apparent to me.
Although the barrier consisted of pure divine energy, its specific attribute was unlike any I had encountered before.
Through my previous interactions with various deities, I had begun to grasp the significance of divine energy attributes.
I understood that for an entity to ascend to godhood, they required a specific domain to govern.
This chosen domain dictates the fundamental attribute of the divine energy they wield.
While I had been unsure about the nature of a God of Insects' power, the truth was now glaringly obvious.
Its attribute was propagation.
The barrier existed because of the massive volume of divine energy present. Due to the inherent nature of Insectum’s power, divine energy was being generated in staggering quantities.
Yet, a high quantity did not necessarily equate to high destructive power.
When Insectum’s divine energy propagated, it simply multiplied itself at its current strength level. The quality did not intensify regardless of how much it expanded.
Consequently, the energy grew in volume, but its potency remained stagnant.
For this reason, the divine energy barrier lacked any true offensive bite.
Its defensive capabilities were undeniable, however, given the nearly limitless pool of energy it could tap into. As long as Insectum’s core power remained, the energy would continue to multiply indefinitely.
It turned out that Insectum’s claim was accurate.
This power was ill-suited for eradicating corruption energy, though it was perfectly designed for containment.
Insectum watched me quietly as I analyzed the interplay between the corruption and the barrier, eventually speaking up: "As you can see, I'm specialized in defense and not so much in attack. Even if I wanted to, there really isn't much that I could do against this destruction energy."
Lin Fan cast a skeptical glance toward the spider.
After a moment of silence, Insectum let out a heavy sigh. "If you hadn't shown up, then I wouldn't have been able to do anything and would have lost control of this destruction energy eventually."
"Why not ask the other gods for help? I'm sure that there's someone that would have been willing to lend a hand. After all, it's not as if you were the one that created this habitat for your messenger in the first place."
"No one will move right now because of the proph…" Insectum began to explain, but abruptly cut itself off as if realizing it had shared too much.
I narrowed my eyes at the deity, though I suspected no further information would be forthcoming.
A single slip-up was likely all I would get before it retreated back into its shell of caution.
The spider averted its gaze, seemingly unable to look me in the eye after its blunder.
Since the conversation had reached a dead end...
I turned back toward the abyss and raised my hand high.
Immediately, searing flames began to coalesce in the air above the pit.
I had harbored concerns that the divine barrier might block my attack, but since both energies shared a divine origin, the flames passed through Insectum’s shield without any resistance.
Once the fire had reached its peak intensity, I gestured downward, sending the inferno plunging into the depths.
The corruption energy had initially hesitated to strike the divine flames out of sheer terror. However, faced with total annihilation, the dark energy was forced to rally and fight back.
The surge of corruption that erupted from the bottom of the pit was far more massive than I had anticipated.
It appeared that an immense amount of filth had accumulated there over the eons.
I realized then that I had vastly underestimated the sheer strength of Insectum’s defensive containment.
The flames raged for a long duration until the upward flow of corruption finally ceased.
"Is that it?" I inquired, looking toward Insectum standing nearby.
The spider nodded slowly before murmuring, "You really are the one chosen by them…"
This was yet another cryptic clue, but I maintained a neutral expression, hoping the god might volunteer more details if I didn't press.
One thing was now certain to me.
Insectum had called Queenie lazy... but based on what I had witnessed, the god was just as slothful as she was.
There were likely numerous ways Insectum could have handled this situation, yet it simply settled for the easiest path I provided. It was clear that Insectum hadn't bothered to think of a solution beyond seeking outside assistance.
It seemed the personality of a god truly did dictate the nature of their messenger...
Wait, that couldn't be entirely true. Zeldir was nothing like the deity he served.
That god was a total fanatic, whereas Zeldir was the complete opposite—unless Zeldir was hiding a secret side of himself, or was simply an expert at masking his emotions.
I certainly hoped that wasn't the reality of the situation...
Shaking off these thoughts, I asked, "So is there anything else that you want me to do?"
Insectum seemed to snap out of a trance, shaking its head. "No, that was the only problem that I needed your help with. Now that you're done, let's go and get you that relic."
This god and its messenger really were two peas in a pod...
