Blink—Blink.
Berthdolt’s eyes snapped open, though his sight remained blurred. The first image to greet him was Anon, who stood over him with a cigar resting lazily between his lips.
Puff.
"Hello, Sleeping Beauty." Anon’s voice was thick with arrogance as he smirked, grinding the sole of his boot against Berthdolt’s nose.
"You… cursed demon," Berthdolt hissed. He fought to get up, his frame shuddering with profound weakness. "Do you even realize… who I am?"
A dangerous, swirling light flickered in Anon’s eyes. He tossed his cigar aside and stepped back, his mocking smile projecting a sense of divine disdain.
"What’s the matter? Get up. Weren't you supposed to be a formidable dragon? Or did you develop those scales just to hunt down defenseless girls?" Anon remarked, bringing the cigar back toward his face.
"I-I will reduce you to cinders!" Berthdolt bellowed, forcing his shattered body to rise, his pride refusing to let him submit.
---
Sharp gasps rippled through the gathered crowd of students and faculty watching from a safe distance.
"Good gods… that’s the demonic dragon…"
"How is he even standing his ground against him?!"
"Isn't that the same student who took down a professor earlier today?"
"He’s a dead man! That’s not just any dragon. That is Berthdolt—the King of the Demonic Dragon Clan. Even the King speaks to him with reverence!"
One of the teachers gave a cold sneer, his gaze fixed on Anon. "He is simply inviting death to the table."
---
Berthdolt’s chest heaved with ragged breaths. His mind was a cauldron of fury.
‘Impossible. A mere parasite… piercing my defenses? Four of my magical cores have been obliterated. How can an insect… a demon like this, deal me such damage? This cannot stand! If this news travels, my clan's prestige will be ruined. No… I must finish him this instant!’
His jaw pulled wide, and within the depths of his throat, a sphere of concentrated black energy began to form, pulsing with the power of annihilation.
<DEMONIC FLAME BALL> The very atmosphere began to warp.
---
The teachers’ faces contorted in pure terror.
"That is a seventh-circle spell!"
"Unbelievable… he’s truly serious!"
"That brat… he’s done for. Nothing will be left—not even a pile of ash!"
"If he unleashes that spell, even we won't survive."
"What?"
"The fallout from that magic will completely level the tower as well."
"N-Noooo..."
"We have to flee!"
The students shook with fear, some breaking into panicked cries.
[WARNING: ALL STUDENTS ARE COMMANDED TO RETURN TO THEIR DORMITORIES IMMEDIATELY. TEACHERS—DEPLOY FORMATION TWELVE DEFENSE AROUND THE TOWER.]
As the command echoed again, the teachers began chanting frantically, weaving row after row of magical barriers to shield the tower.
While most students scrambled away, a few reckless souls stayed behind the protection of their instructors, their eyes wide with grim curiosity.
‘What is this kid thinking? Besting a professor is one thing… but challenging Berthdolt? It’s suicide,’ a teacher mused with a grim expression.
---
The black orb grew until the air itself seemed to scream under the pressure.
‘It’s time to see exactly what my full power can do...’ Anon thought, a smile playing on his lips as he prepared himself.
Berthdolt’s voice roared like thunder. "DIE, PEST!"
The Demonic Flame Ball lunged forward at an impossible speed, slicing through the air of the forest.
SWISH.
The sky appeared to dim as the spell passed through it.
Yet, Anon did not waver. His face remained serene, his eyes locked onto the approaching destruction. With a slow, almost bored motion, he lifted his hand.
<QUANTUM REFLECT>
[Crystal of Creation has augmented the skill’s potency.]
A shimmering blue barrier materialized, vast and majestic, appearing like a shard of the heavens.
Anon’s mouth twisted into a grin.
"My, My..." Anon murmured.
BOOOOOOOOOOM!
The detonation shattered the silence of the world. Blinding light consumed all sight. The earth trembled under the shockwave. A thick veil of dust and smoke swallowed the landscape.
---
Students shrieked in terror. The teachers braced their bodies against the violent blast.
As the debris began to settle, every eye turned toward the spot where Anon had stood.
A silence more profound than the grave hung in the air.
"I-Is he gone?" a teacher whispered, unable to see through the haze.
"Oh shit..." one student muttered, eyes wide with shock as he pointed toward the sky.
The teacher followed the student's hand, looking up only to see something hovering in the air: another Demonic Flame Ball.
As the smoke cleared further, dozens more Demonic Flame Balls appeared, leaving everyone—even Berthdolt—in a state of total shock.
"W-What the—!?"
*Thud*
He recoiled in terror, watching hundreds of Demonic Flame Balls suspended in the sky.
*YAWWWNNNNNN*
Berthdolt looked down and saw Anon yawning while stretching his limbs.
"Y-You are no ordinary Demon..." Berthdolt stated, his expression turning grave.
"Hmm..? Are you certain that’s what you should be saying right now?" Anon asked, tilting his head with a bewildered smile.
"What? You expect me, the proud sovereign of the greatest Demonic Clan, to kneel and beg for your forgiveness?" Berthdolt asked seriously.
"I mean... if you have an heir ready to take your place, you could die in peace. But I believe I just saw your only daughter running off in that direction," Anon answered playfully, eyeing Berthdolt.
"I am certain you would have ended me already if that was your goal... That implies you want something from me. We can negotiate a deal, can't we?" Berthdolt asked, his face neutral.
"You hit the nail on the head... I could kill you this second, but why waste your life when a deal can be struck?" Anon asked with a grin.
"I respect that logic... Name your price," Berthdolt said solemnly.
"I’ll be taking your daughter," Anon declared, a smile spreading across his face as he watched him.
"What!?" Berthdolt exclaimed, his face contorted in shock.
"I want your daughter, and in return, I shall grant you your life," Anon clarified.
"Haa... Very well. I have no son, so I cannot afford to die today. However, you must capture her yourself if you wish to claim her," Berthdolt responded, his expression flattening.
"Oh, don't worry about that. I'm quite skilled at catching girls," Anon said with a smirk. He snapped his fingers, and every single Flame Ball vanished instantly.
