Director Wei updates Chiang Xiao and Meng Xinian on Gao Wei's hospital situation, where the young man claims paralysis after the confrontation, though doctors find no physical damage and suspect a psychological issue. Chiang Xiao denies causing serious harm and feels no guilt, recalling Gao Wei's plot to ruin her tea house business. Director Wei rejects any involvement, framing the event as a mere dispute between troublemakers and the owner, and advises Chiang Xiao to prioritize her safety while investigating a mysterious figure named Hu. Grateful for the information, Chiang Xiao offers him tea, which he later discovers is a full, unopened can despite her claim of it being half-used.

Chiang Xiao had only spoken those words to persuade him into taking it.

The leftover half-can hardly resembled a proper gift; it came across more as an offhand trade between acquaintances.

Yet, who could have anticipated that this clever young woman would fetch a fresh can and crack it open?

Having agreed to it already, he ought to have the guts to receive a small token from her, right?

The telephone began to ring.

Director Wei placed the items down and hurried over to pick it up.

A voice carrying a touch of amusement echoed from the receiver.

"Uncle, it seems you've only just arrived home?"

"That's correct. Can you hear that I'm slightly winded?" The typically stern features of Director Wei relaxed at once, a grin even creeping onto his face.

"I sure can tell. What's going on? It's midday, and you headed out for duties without grabbing a bite?"

Director Wei shot a look at the timepiece on the wall's edge, reading two in the afternoon.

True enough, he had skipped the meal; it had slipped his mind entirely.

"Was I spot on?" The fellow on the line remarked with mild reproach: "Uncle, you really ought to stick to regular mealtimes..."

"...Prioritize eating properly. Unless you're swamped beyond reason, of course."

Director Wei jumped in to complete his thought before he wrapped it up.

The man across the connection let out an involuntary chuckle.

If anyone in existence possessed a laugh that let you picture their captivating allure, it had to be the source of this sound.

The mirth flowed warm and bright.

His manner of speaking made every word a delight to hear.

"You won't believe the place I visited or the person I encountered." Director Wei remarked.

"For you to pose that question, it has to involve someone... loosely connected to me, or an acquaintance not too close, yet intriguing and unexpected enough to pique my curiosity, correct?"

"Yixi remains as sharp-minded as ever, just like me."

It proved tricky to discern if Director Wei praised his nephew or boasted about his own intellect.

On his end, Wei Yixi let out another light laugh, musing over the recent call from the day before, and ventured: "Is it possible, Uncle, that you skipped lunch to encounter the woman deemed the perfect match for Wei Yixi's future bride, that Miss Xiao Chiang?"

Director Wei figured he would figure it out.

Still, upon hearing him voice it, Director Wei let out a soft sigh and replied: "She fits you well, but alas, up to now, her bond with that fellow Meng Xinian stays strong, showing no cracks at all. Thus, Yixi, you've arrived a tad late to the scene."

Catching the note of disappointment in his voice, Wei Yixi couldn't suppress another burst of laughter.

"Is that young lady truly so impressive?"

"She's not exceptionally remarkable."

"Oh?" Wei Yixi arched a brow.

"To plenty of folks, she might appear overly assertive and somewhat coarse. She won't hold back from striking out if anyone irks or wrongs her. I suspect she'd act the same way even with her partner. Should anyone truly overstep, don't anticipate her showing kindness, patience, or following old-fashioned conventions."

As a result, numerous males could view a lady like that as lacking in allure.

"On top of that, her income towers over yours. I doubt you make even a fraction of what she pulls in, and she'd likely handle the household budget."

This stands as another issue plenty of men balk at.

They'd experience deep embarrassment if their spouse out-earned them by such a margin, bruising their ego.

"With family seniors, it's okay as long as you avoid angering her. But cross that boundary, and she disregards rank or status; no leniency will come your way."

Therefore, most older relatives would likely oppose their boy or grandson tying the knot with a bride of that sort.

As he took this in, amusement sparkled in Wei Yixi's gaze.

He peered out at the vast azure ocean beyond the entrance, observing how gulls now and then glided through the heavens, and commented: "From the way Uncle describes her, she doesn't match the soft, refined archetype of an ideal spouse."
