Rebirth: Splendid Marriage in the 80s Chapter 2320 - 2256: Tyrant Meng Is Really Cunning

Previously on Rebirth: Splendid Marriage in the 80s...
Meng Xinian and Chiang Xiao discuss their upcoming wedding, debating the best time of year to hold the ceremony. While Chiang Xiao suggests a golden autumn wedding in October to allow for better preparation and unique street photography, Meng Xinian struggles with the long wait. Tensions arise when a slip from Grandpa Yang reveals that Meng Xinian may have been less than honest about the most auspicious dates. Despite the logistical hurdles of choosing the perfect outfits and locations, the couple remains focused on making their once-in-a-lifetime celebration truly memorable.

"Grandpa Yang, Grandma Yang, we will be sure to inform you once the wedding date is finalized," Chiang Xiao remarked, stealing a glance at Meng Xinian. "However, it most likely won't take place until November."

Meng Xinian turned his gaze toward her, catching the sight of Chiang Xiao’s radiant smile.

She was well aware that his desperation to wed was born purely out of his deep love for her; how could she not be?

Because of this, she found herself able to set aside her previous stubbornness.

At the very worst, they would simply need to arrange for a few extra electric fans to keep cool.

Witnessing her smile caused Meng Xinian’s heart to thump wildly against his ribs.

A sudden sensation washed over him, as if he had just successfully completed a marriage proposal.

The intensity of being moved and excited by her presence was overwhelming.

"Very well, either month is fine. In truth, that date in August isn't a bad choice either," Old Yang chimed in.

To Meng Xinian, it felt as though a massive explosion had gone off, nearly knocking him off his feet.

"Old Man Yang!" he barked, his voice straining through gritted teeth.

Chiang Xiao hadn't even been aware that an August date was an option!

Previously, she was only choosing between June and November. Since she had agreed not to wait until November, it meant she had essentially agreed to June—June!

Following Old Yang’s revelation, a sense of dread pooled in his stomach; his earlier joy now felt like it had been premature.

Just as he feared, Chiang Xiao’s expression stiffened. She looked at him, let out a sharp snort, and declared, "Fine then, let’s settle on the August date."

That sneaky Tyrant Meng was truly far too calculating!

She had nearly fallen straight into his little trap!

Regardless, August was a much better prospect than June.

If the ceremony was held after the Mid-Autumn Festival, the sweltering heat would have already begun to fade.

Feeling as though his heart couldn't take much more of this emotional roller coaster, Meng Xinian ground his teeth and replied, "The August date is the 27th!"

That was practically September already.

"Pfft!"

Chiang Xiao was unable to suppress a giggle.

August 27th would indeed fall after the Mid-Autumn Festival; it sounded quite reasonable, quite good indeed.

"I find that acceptable. Brother Xinian, what do you think?"

A mixture of happiness and sorrow warred within Meng Xinian.

Having the date pushed back from June to the end of August—did he really think it was alright?

Yet, he knew that if he disagreed, it might frustrate Chiang Xiaoxiao enough to push the wedding all the way to November. Viewed through that lens, the end of August was a tolerable compromise.

"Then we shall fix it for August 27th. When we return, you can draft a list of necessary preparations, and we will go over everything together."

Although he had been feeling discouraged moments ago, the fact that a date was set and wedding plans were commencing caused his frustrations to evaporate. He began to feel a genuine sense of joy.

He was simply grateful that Chiang Xiaoxiao hadn't insisted on waiting until her college graduation to become his wife!

"Alright, if any assistance is required, don't forget to ask your grandpa and grandma," said Old Yang. After three days of recuperation, he had nearly recovered his full strength. He still needed to stick to light meals and steer clear of heavy foods, but he was capable of eating full portions again.

Their spirits had significantly brightened, especially now that they were resting and eating properly.

Despite only spending a few days with Chiang Xiao, they already felt a deep reluctance to see her go.

"Farewell, Grandpa Yang, Grandma Yang, Uncle Yang. Please visit us in the Capital City when you have the chance,"

Chiang Xiao waved as she bid them goodbye. Meng Xinian escorted her toward the camp gates. A short distance ahead, they spotted a man standing by the side of the road, watching for them.

"Oh, that's Guan Tiezhu. He traveled here with me. That day, he dropped me off at the camp gate before heading into town to find lodgings," Chiang Xiao remarked, having nearly forgotten about him.

Meng Xinian gave a nod and began walking toward Guan Tiezhu.

Guan Tiezhu had already spotted them; as they drew near, he snapped to attention and delivered a sharp, crisp salute.
