Upon arriving, however, he discovered that Chiang Xiao was already in the middle of tidying up the dining area.
Yang Zhiqi stood there, completely stunned.
“Is it all gone?”
“Uncle Yang, there isn’t a single bite left for you. Didn’t you go have those pan-fried buns?” Chiang Xiao remarked.
Standing beside her, Meng Xinian simply gave a casual shrug.
See? He told him so, but he still refused to believe it.
Chiang Xiao turned to him and said, “I put your porridge in the kitchen, go and eat it quickly.”
“Alright!”
Witnessing Meng Xinian’s smug expression, Yang Zhiqi was tempted to give him a swift kick.
As if he had eyes in the back of his head, Meng Xinian tilted his body and dodged the strike with ease.
Instead, Yang Zhiqi lost his balance and nearly stumbled over his own feet.
Old Yang shot him a look of pure contempt. “Stop making a fool of yourself.”
Yang Zhiqi: “…”
Chiang Xiao couldn't help but let out a soft giggle at the scene.
Later on, Chiang Xiao decided to study culinary arts under Aunt Yang. She figured that with such an abundance of meat stored in her Space, it was the perfect time to master some major dishes. Who knew when she might develop a craving for them later?
Furthermore, the sight of the rooftop greenery made her eager to start her own garden. The Black Soil within the Space hadn't been fully utilized yet. Since the medicinal herbs and flowers continued to flourish even after being harvested, there was no need to overplant them.
When there were no new herbs to cultivate, she could actually plant some greens instead. This would allow them to be self-sufficient, providing fresh vegetables at home for those days when they felt too lazy to go to the market.
Besides, the advantages of the Space weren't limited to drinking the water, tea, or flower infusions; now, they could use the produce for cooking, which was wonderful.
If she happened to find rare medicinal herbs later and ran out of room, she could simply pull out the vegetables to make space.
With this plan in mind, she went to request some vegetable seeds from Old Yang.
Old Yang’s house was stocked with various melon seedlings and seeds. Having plenty of free time, he spent most of his days tending to the garden on the roof.
Just as Meng Xinian finished preparing the rooftop, Chiang Xiao spent the next two days learning the ropes of gardening from him and cooking with Aunt Yang. The trio felt as though they were living a peaceful, pastoral life.
Meng Xinian felt a bit neglected, as if Chiang Xiao hadn't come to visit him at all, but his complaints fell on deaf ears. Whenever he wasn't occupied with meetings or training, he had no choice but to obediently return to the roof and keep them company.
Chiang Xiao discreetly mixed some Spirit Spring Water into the watering bucket and even applied some to Old Yang’s vegetable beds, topping them with a light layer of Black Soil. As a result, her plants grew at an incredible pace, showing visible progress in just two days.
Old Yang’s garden also underwent a startling transformation. He was so shocked that he kept calling Chiang Xiao a little lucky star, claiming that everything flourished the moment she arrived.
Chiang Xiao tossed the rest of the seeds into the Space, and by the next morning, the greens had fully matured and were ready for harvest.
It was then she realized that the Black Soil accelerated the growth of vegetables even more significantly.
That afternoon, she stir-fried the small bok choys she had grown, while placing the ones harvested from Old Yang’s garden into the Space for storage.
Old Yang and the others assumed the stir-fry came from his own garden. They showered Chiang Xiao with praise for her cooking skills, even suggesting she could have been a professional chef if she hadn't pursued painting.
Yang Zhiqi only managed to snag one meal during this time, and the flavor lingered in his mind. However, Chiang Xiao insisted that the food was specially prepared for the two elders—cooked soft and simmered thoroughly—and wouldn't suit his palate, effectively driving him back to the canteen.
He felt a wave of resentment every time it happened.
If that was the case, why was Meng Xinian allowed to eat at home?
“What is my relationship with Little Xiao?”
Meng Xinian arched an eyebrow; he didn't mind in the slightest that the meals had been somewhat simple lately.
“I am her uncle!”
“I’ve never met an uncle so cheap that he couldn't even provide a proper meeting gift.”
