Rebirth: Splendid Marriage in the 80s Chapter 2301 - 2237: That Kind of Temperament

Previously on Rebirth: Splendid Marriage in the 80s...
Chen Yujun attempts to warn Meng Xinian about the influential background of Long Xiaocai, revealing her family's prestigious connections to the powerful Gao and Lu families. Citing these political ties, Chen Yujun urges Meng Xinian to appease the woman by publicly reprimanding Jiang Xiao to save face for their guests. However, Meng Xinian remains unimpressed by the social pressure, questioning Chen Yujun’s own integrity and his willingness to mistreat his wife for the sake of networking.

Had he actually behaved that way, he would have loathed himself to the core. Furthermore, Chiang Xiao would have undoubtedly slammed the door in his face and departed for good.

There would be no second chance where a few sweet words could coax her back into his arms.

Chen Yujun stood frozen, momentarily stunned by the situation.

By then, Chiang Xiao had already placed two steaming bowls of soup in front of Old Yang and his wife.

Perhaps it was because they had been standing further away, but now that they were right beside the table, Zhao Ren and Duan Huaiyang couldn't tear their eyes away from the soup the elderly couple held.

The steam rose in curls, carrying a refreshing scent that clearly highlighted the sweet and tangy aroma of fresh tomatoes.

Was this truly the same large bowl of soup they had been mocking just moments ago?

Why hadn't Chiang Xiao offered any to them?

She had only served the Elder Couple Yang.

And what about the rest of the food?

The only dishes currently sitting on the table were the ones they had brought themselves!

“Sister-in-law, I want a taste of that soup too,” Dai Gang said, his eyes fixed longingly on Chiang Xiao. “I’ll just head inside and serve myself.”

He made a move to dash toward the kitchen, but he hadn't even taken two steps before Chiang Xiao caught him firmly by the collar.

“Young man, what’s the rush for soup? This batch is specially reserved for the Big Master and Madam. Don’t you already have your cooked meats, peanuts, and that meat dish Sister-in-law Chen prepared?”

Chiang Xiao flashed an apologetic smile at Zhao Ren and the others. “I’m terribly sorry. Looking at the fine meat Sister-in-law Chen brought over, I felt too embarrassed to serve my simple vegetarian dishes. Please, help yourselves to these first.”

“Eat what?!”

With a face like thunder, Meng Xinian emerged from the inner room. He snatched the peanuts and cooked meat, shoving them back into Zhao Ren’s arms. He then handed the remaining dishes to Duan Huaiyang and Chen Yujun before delivering a swift kick to Dai Gang’s backside to usher them out.

“Go home and eat your own food!”

Without wasting another word, he forced the group out and slammed the door shut right in their faces.

Chiang Xiao arched her eyebrows, watching his stern expression, and couldn't suppress a laugh.

“Brother Xinian, I was only trying to get rid of one person, but you drove the whole lot away.”

In truth, she had overheard every word Chen Yujun had said inside.

She had fully anticipated Meng Xinian’s explosive reaction.

Had he not been furious, it would have been her turn to lose her temper.

As for Dai Gang, he had it coming. Why did he have to blindly follow along without understanding the situation?

“We don’t need a crowd of people hanging around.”

The veins at Meng Xinian’s temples were still throbbing with lingering anger.

“Yes, yes, quite right. I don’t need a welcoming party from them either.”

Old Yang watched the pair and shook his head, a smile playing on his lips.

“You two have such fierce tempers. Aren't you worried that such an attitude will leave you at a disadvantage?”

With personalities like theirs, one would indeed suffer unless they possessed immense capability. However, he found himself admiring these two young people.

If Meng Xinian didn't have a temperament that suited his own tastes, Old Yang wouldn't have bothered worrying about his future, nor would he have encouraged him to join the Supervisor Guards.

Life within the Alliance was far better than in the outside world; one didn't have to deal with quite so many fake and calculating individuals.

The environment there was much more transparent and direct.

Of course, that didn't mean such people were entirely non-existent there.

“So what if we are at a disadvantage?” Meng Xinian replied, completely indifferent.

Old Yang pointed a finger at him and chuckled. “Actually, for a rascal like you, others are more likely to fear you. You won’t be the one suffering.”

Despite Meng Xinian’s cold and irritable exterior, he was highly skilled. It wasn't just his physical strength; he was more than capable of handling any underhanded schemes thrown his way.

Chiang Xiao also looked like someone who wasn't afraid of a little trouble.

Looking at the elders, she urged, “Quickly, drink the soup before it cools down and loses its flavor.”

With those words, she stepped back into the kitchen and brought her own dishes back out to the table.
