Gao Wei’s gaze locked onto Du Jinruo with burning intensity. "Fine, then just be with me. Be my girlfriend. I'll become as refined and cultured as you want. If I fail, you can scold me or hit me—I’ll be completely under your control, how does that sound?"
"Can you stop talking such nonsense?" Du Jinruo’s expression hardened. She shot him a sharp glare before turning to Kevin with a nervous look. "Let’s head upstairs and find a seat."
"If you and Mr. Gao are friends, please feel free to talk with him. I don’t mind being by myself," Kevin replied with a warm smile, seemingly unbothered by Gao Wei’s previous lack of manners.
"Hey, man, you’re actually quite reasonable." Gao Wei gave a wide grin and reached out to grab Du Jinruo.
Filled with a mix of anxiety and rage, Du Jinruo immediately slapped his hand away. She moved closer to Kevin, saying, "There's no need for that. How could I possibly leave you alone? Come on, let's go upstairs."
As she spoke, Du Jinruo attempted to hook her arm through Kevin's.
The fact that he hadn't seemed to mind Gao Wei’s presence earlier had made her feel uneasy.
Was it possible that Kevin truly felt nothing for her? She felt the need to be more assertive in her actions.
However, just as her hand reached out, Kevin subtly shifted and pointed toward a nearby corner. "Why don't we take a seat over there instead?"
Gao Wei had been watching Du Jinruo’s every move.
Even he couldn't tell if Kevin had intentionally dodged her hand or if he had simply missed her gesture by coincidence while pointing out the way.
Regardless of the reason, the sight left him feeling incredibly agitated.
He suddenly reached out and seized Du Jinruo’s arm, jerking her toward him with a sudden pull.
Because he used such brute force, Du Jinruo lost her footing and was dragged straight into his chest.
Gao Wei immediately locked his arms around her. Leaning down, he whispered, "Xiao Ruo, in what way am I worse than this fake foreigner? You couldn't actually be interested in him, could you?"
"Gao Wei, let go of me! Have you lost your mind?"
Du Jinruo fought back fiercely, her eyes blazing with anger as she glared at him.
"Why should I let go? Xiao Ruo, I’ve realized my past attempts to win you over were far too gentle. From now on, what if I start being a bit more forceful?"
"Let me go!"
Du Jinruo was both panicked and furious, her eyes instinctively darting toward Kevin.
Kevin’s brow furrowed slightly as he addressed Gao Wei. "Mr. Gao, isn't it quite ungentlemanly to use force on a lady like this?"
"To hell with your gentlemanly talk!"
Gao Wei spat dismissively in Kevin’s direction. "Don't bother me with those annoying, pretentious words. Xiao Ruo and I are childhood friends; we grew up together, you understand? Whatever happens between us is none of your business. Didn't you just say you could sit by yourself? Then go sit alone, as far away as possible!"
"Kevin!" Unable to break free from the grip, Du Jinruo’s eyes began to redden as she looked at Kevin with a pleading expression. "I don't want to be with him."
"Xiao Ruo, hearing that really breaks my heart. We grew up together; have you forgotten that time back in school when it suddenly happened? I was the one who took off my clothes to shield you. You even got blood on my clothes. With that kind of history between us, you’re telling me you don’t want to be with me?"
Gao Wei’s words left Du Jinruo so humiliated and enraged that she felt as though she might cough up blood.
That had been an accident years ago. While she had been deeply grateful to Gao Wei for saving her from such a massive embarrassment back then, did that mean they were destined to be together?
"Gao Wei!" Her voice turned shrill, vibrating with pure exasperation and fury.
