Quick Transmigration Cannon Fodder's Record of Counterattacks Chapter 3290: I Thought I Could Save His Life

Le Qing, who used a formation to cause trouble, was eradicated along with the sinister energy and tormented souls he controlled. The mysterious school doctor swiftly departed, leaving Ning Shu to ponder the nature of his spatial abilities. Mei Ziqing remained in a catatonic state, seemingly traumatized by Le Qing's disappearance, while Ning Shu, injured during the conflict, received medical attention from Lar and Dagger Mu. Despite Ning Shu's attempts to help, Mei Ziqing continued to sit unresponsive.

Ning Shu let out a sigh. “What was the point of doing it if it causes you this much agony?”

To personally end the life of your lover only to suffer such misery—wouldn't it have been far simpler to just ignore the whole situation?

Mei Ziqing really should have anticipated that this would be the inevitable conclusion from the very start.

Tears finally began to spill over. Wiping them away, Mei Ziqing choked out, “He constantly claimed it was a fair trade for immense power. But in the end, he was completely consumed by madness.”

“You witnessed it as well—that endless, malevolent aura permeating his soul. It was only a matter of time before it devoured him entirely.”

Burying her face in her arms, her voice came out muffled and thick, “I truly believed I could save his life.”

Ning Shu: “Uh...”

“The two of you must have had an older sister-younger brother dynamic, right?” Ning Shu inquired.

Mei Ziqing cried out in frustration, “Does that even matter right now?”

Ning Shu waved her hand dismissively. “Not really. I just felt that Le Qing lacked your level of maturity.”

Le Qing craved strength with all his heart, yet he never truly understood the reality of his own circumstances.

Since the dawn of time, a handful of the powerful have always stood above the masses of ordinary people.

All the shouting and defiance in the world are meaningless. If your Cultivation is profound enough to be undeniable, you won't feel the need to scream or make a scene—and you won't even care to try.

Ning Shu pressed a dry ration into Mei Ziqing’s hand. “Have something to eat.”

This mission had been nothing but bitter for her. It was an entirely thankless task.

Aside from developing a brand new power system through her Unsurpassable Martial Arts, she gained no benefits whatsoever. Instead, she had been forced to run around handling Mei Ziqing’s affairs, and she might even end up being resented for it in the end.

Mei Ziqing clutched the flatbread, taking slow bites while she continued to wipe away her tears.

Seeing that she was finally willing to eat, Ning Shu moved to sit a short distance away.

Now wasn't the time to linger around Mei Ziqing. What if she lost her temper and vented her anger on her?

If any hatred existed, it should be aimed at Le Qing. Nobody forced Le Qing to utilize that heavens-altering formation to attempt a merger with the Heavenly Dao.

She had entered this world knowing nothing, all for the sake of assisting Mei Ziqing.

If Mei Ziqing ended up hating her for this, then their friendship would simply have to end. →_→

Especially observing Mei Ziqing in her current state, Ning Shu didn’t find her particularly likable.

Perhaps this reaction was just the lingering effect of excising the tumor in her heart. Mei Ziqing herself had described this entire ordeal as a tumor of the heart.

Ning Shu stretched out on the sheet Lar had spread across the ground. Because of the injuries on her back, she was forced to lie face down.

She discreetly swallowed some anti-inflammatory medication. The wound on her back was far too extensive to ignore; she couldn't risk going without it.

Dagger Mu lay down beside her, his small legs kicking back and forth as he asked Ning Shu, “Was that man who vanished her husband?”

“And who exactly was that man dressed in black?”

Asking questions like this made Dagger Mu appear like an innocent child.

Ning Shu shot him a look. “It’s none of your damn business. Get lost.”

“Heh, you damned woman.” Dagger Mu suddenly smacked Ning Shu’s back, causing her to bolt upright from the sharp pain.

Like a startled rabbit, Dagger Mu immediately scrambled away, cackling with mischief. “Damned woman, you deserved that! Bleh bleh bleh...” He stuck his tongue out at her as he retreated.

Ning Shu gave him a cold, piercing glare. “You’d better hope you never fall into my clutches. I’ll make sure your death has a very rhythmic beat.”

She settled back down, shutting her eyes to get some rest.

Lar approached Dagger Mu and whispered something to him. Dagger Mu suddenly looked miserable, his head hanging low like a frostbitten eggplant.

In her mind, Ning Shu questioned 2333: “Le Qing claimed that task-takers are just slaves being raised to feed those above—what did he mean by that?”

For Le Qing to despise it so intensely, it was strange; Ning Shu had never even suspected she was a slave.
