My Longevity Simulation Chapter 6: Sitting on a Mountain and Watching the Immortals Fight

Previously on My Longevity Simulation...
Reflecting on his previous simulation, Li Fan remains shaken by the overwhelming power of Dao Xuanzi’s sword and the mysterious, absolute restraint the Immortal-Mortal Miasma holds over cultivators. Armed with the knowledge that the supposedly close bond between the two immortals can be fractured by the promise of a unique Golden Core technique, he begins his fifth life with a renewed plan to divide and conquer. Though his attempt to accelerate his rise to power by poisoning the Emperor causes unexpected political upheaval and years of civil war, he eventually stabilizes his control over the mortal realm. By the thirty-fifth year of this cycle, he departs from the capital to personally investigate the distant eastern Ruins Abyss.

TL note on term changes: Abyss Ruins > Ruins Abyss, Immortal Miasma > Immortal-Mortal Miasma

*****

Situated at the eastern edge of the Grand Xuan Country, the Ruins Abyss was a chasm so profound its floor remained hidden, perpetually blanketed by a dense, swirling fog. A single misstep here meant certain death, as anyone who fell would be utterly destroyed.

The secrets held within the depths of the Ruins Abyss were unknown to all. Even birds avoided the area, and for countless years, it had remained a forbidden zone for humanity.

Li Fan, however, possessed knowledge from his previous simulation. He was aware that the thick veil above the Ruins Abyss lifted only once every fifteen years. Today, he had arrived at the precipice to witness this phenomenon personally.

His suspicion was that the two cultivators, Dao Xuanzi and Kou Hong, had likely utilized the Ruins Abyss as their gateway into this Land of Immortal Extinction.

Standing in silence, Li Fan kept a patient vigil over the limitless void.

After an indeterminate amount of time, the heavy white mist, which carried a primal and ancient aura, finally began to shift.

"Whooosh..."

A sound resembling the distant cry of an ancient beast drifted up from the depths. As the volume intensified, the gathered observers realized it was actually the howling of the wind!

The thick white mist was churned into motion, sending ripple after ripple through the air.

The gale grew in ferocity until massive quantities of white vapor were blasted out of the Ruins Abyss, looking like a waterfall flowing in reverse toward the heavens.

This violent wind persisted for thirty minutes before the heavy fog finally cleared away.

With a solemn expression, Li Fan produced his telescope and directed his gaze toward the floor of the Ruins Abyss.

Initially, the bottom was shrouded in pitch-black darkness, revealing nothing.

Slowly, however, small flickers of light began to emerge.

Eventually, the abyss floor became brilliantly illuminated, reflecting a mirage-like, inverted landscape into Li Fan's eyes.

Records suggested that the visions seen at the bottom of the Ruins Abyss varied from person to person.

Yet, the sight before Li Fan shook him to his very soul.

He saw a ruined mountain gate surrounded by shattered architecture. The walls and ground were riddled with cracks and scarred by the marks of sword intent and magical strikes.

Certain patches appeared to be soaked in blood, possessing a haunting, dark crimson hue.

The weapons and corpses littered across the scene were silent witnesses to a massive catastrophe from ages past.

Stunned, Li Fan adjusted his focus and spotted five massive characters carved into the surface of a smooth cliffside.

"The Immortal Dao is dead!"

These words were a dark red color, appearing as if they had been brushed in blood.

Even across the vast distance, Li Fan felt the overwhelming despair and terror embedded within those five characters.

"The Immortal Dao is dead... what could have transpired here? And what has become of the entire world of Cultivation?" Li Fan remained lost in thought for a long time.

...

The fog remained gone for only half a day before it began to reform. Li Fan eventually made his way back to Xuanjing.

Time marched on, and soon the fifty-year milestone arrived.

On this day, Li Fan marked his seventieth birthday while thousands of troops stood ready in Xuanjing City, awaiting his command.

"Dao Xuanzi! Do not push me too far!"

Kou Hong spun around and roared in fury, coming to a halt as he hovered high above Xuanjing City.

Before Dao Xuanzi could offer a reply, a voice rose from the city below, echoing throughout Xuanjing.

"Kou Hong, by the command of Immortal Master Dao Xuanzi, we have been waiting for you for a long time!"

Immediately following the shout, a hail of bullets blotted out the sky.

Blindsided, Kou Hong was hammered by the concentrated gunfire.

"How can this be? Did Dao Xuanzi foresee my escape to this place? Since when did he become so calculating?!" Kou Hong was both shocked and enraged.

Moments later, he realized with horror that his spiritual energy was draining at an alarming rate while he defended against the assault. Sweeping the area with his divine sense, the truth became clear.

"Immortal-Mortal Miasma! Dao Xuanzi, you are truly foul!" Kou Hong glared at the arriving Dao Xuanzi with eyes full of shock, as if he were seeing his friend of a hundred years for the first time.

At that moment, Dao Xuanzi was completely bewildered.

"What is happening with these mortals? Why are they attacking Kou Hong in my name? And how can they use the Immortal-Mortal Miasma?" Stunned, Dao Xuanzi faltered for a second.

However, seeing the rage in Kou Hong’s eyes, Dao Xuanzi suddenly grew cautious.

"Something is wrong! Kou Hong, I did not order these mortals!" Dao Xuanzi tried to explain quickly.

"What? You have the nerve to do it but not the courage to confess?" Kou Hong sneered. "Or are you terrified that if your use of the Immortal-Mortal Miasma is revealed, every cultivator will hunt you down? Or perhaps you only care about protecting that 'good reputation' you've spent a century building?"

Dao Xuanzi knew his brother's temperament well; he could see Kou Hong was too far gone in his rage to listen to reason.

He had a growing suspicion that he had fallen into a trap.

The strange atmosphere of the area even gave him a premonition of danger.

Engaging in a life-or-death struggle with Kou Hong right now was not a smart move.

Thus, he tried once more to reason with him, "We have been brothers for a hundred years; when have I ever lied to you? This truly was not—"

Before he could finish, an aged voice suddenly boomed from every direction, cutting him off.

"Immortal Master Dao Xuanzi, how can you go back on your promise? Was it not agreed that if we helped you kill Kou Hong and take his Golden Core technique, you would lead my people out of this Land of Immortal Extinction?" The voice sounded both hurt and indignant.

"Golden Core technique?!" At the mention of this, both Kou Hong and Dao Xuanzi’s expressions shifted instantly.

"Still claiming it’s not you? Aside from the two of us, who else in this world knows of this?!" Kou Hong’s anger reached its peak, his hair practically standing on end.

"This person actually knows about the Golden Core technique..." Dao Xuanzi’s heart sank completely.

The voice from below continued: "Consider the fact that by deploying the Immortal-Mortal Miasma for you, we have earned the hatred of everyone. Now that the world is in an uproar, if the Immortal Master breaks his word and fails to guide us out, I fear my clan will soon face a death without a proper burial!"

Frustrated by the false accusations, Dao Xuanzi shouted, "Be silent, you shameless scoundrel!"

He lunged toward the source of the voice, hoping to find the person behind it, but he only found a bizarre rectangular device. The sound was coming from that object, and thousands more like it were scattered across Xuanjing City!

"To be this careful..." Dao Xuanzi felt utterly powerless.

"Does the Immortal Master now intend to silence us through murder?"

Hearing the mocking words continue to spill from the device, Dao Xuanzi gritted his teeth and crushed the object into dust.

To Kou Hong, it appeared as though Dao Xuanzi had been caught in a lie and was now destroying evidence to hide his secrets.

Kou Hong looked up and let out a thunderous roar, "Dao Xuanzi! We have known each other for a century, but it seems I never truly knew you! If you wanted my Golden Core technique, why resort to such pathetic schemes? I will run no further—if you have the skill, come and take it!"

"Dao Technique: Fire Dragon's Roar!"

A ferocious dragon of flame materialized around Kou Hong, letting out a roar that shook the heavens.

The fire dragon glared forward and unleashed a pillar of crimson fire directly at Dao Xuanzi.

Dao Xuanzi let out a heavy sigh. With a quiet incantation, a flying sword manifested behind him, turning into a streak of white light to meet the advancing flames.
