My Living Shadow System Devours To Make Me Stronger Chapter 818 - 819: Yari The Chained City

With their current task finished, Damon and Lazarak needed to resume their trek.
Damon felt conflicted regarding the two children, Lyn and Sithara. While bringing them along was possible, their survival was far from guaranteed. On the other hand, abandoning them seemed equally dangerous for the same reason.
’Now what..’ he pondered, shifting his gaze toward Lazarak.
Lazarak offered a simple shrug before suddenly clapping his hands with newfound zeal.
"We’re going on a great adventure to change the world. Do you children want to come along."
After Lyn exchanged a look with Sithara, the boy gave a small smile and squeezed her hand a bit tighter.
"Will we get to create Lysithara?"
Damon shrugged with feigned indifference, despite the tension in his frame.
"That’s up to you. Lazarak is going against the goddess. I’m looking for a cure for an incurable illness. And you two are trying to create something beautiful. Should be an interesting adventure."
Sithara’s fear of Damon had evaporated. She shifted her weight, her previous caution replaced by genuine interest.
"Ahhm, where do you plan to go?"
A sudden wave of embarrassment hit Damon, causing him to pause and look away.
The truth was that he had no plan. Lazarak was just as unfamiliar with this realm as he was.
He decided to wing it.
"To wherever I can find the cure."
"So you intend to go to Yari, the chained city."
Damon looked at Lazarak briefly before turning back to the kids.
"Yes. We do. But just a quick question. You guys know about Yari, right."
Lyn swallowed hard and nodded slowly, his complexion turning pale.
"It’s the largest city in the world. That place is hell."
Sithara seconded her brother’s sentiment, her jaw tightening as she wrapped her arms around herself.
"It’s ruled by the chained people. Lots of people gather there. You can fight for your freedom and become one of the chained, or you can live as a prisoner."
Lyn’s voice dropped to a low whisper, his eyes flickering with intensity.
"Legend has it whoever manages to enter the central towers will obtain a legendary elixir."
A cold smile touched Lazarak’s lips as he looked upward as if he could see an invisible spire piercing the heavens.
"Those who enter can also leave this world and return to Aetherus, am I right."
Lyn gave a nod.
"Yeah, but that’s a myth. I mean, the whole elixir is a myth too. Frankly speaking, I’ve theorized the whole idea of the elixir and gateways is just a way for Yari to gather everyone who can reach the center."
Sithara smiled, eager to build upon the logic her brother presented.
"They stand to gain too much from this. Think about it. They recruit powerful talents, increase their own power, and gain foolish slaves who work tirelessly for an imaginary goal."
Damon let out a quiet chuckle. These youngsters were remarkably intelligent. It wasn't entirely unexpected.
"There is no smoke without fire. If there is a chance, then that is where we will go."
Concern flashed across Sithara’s face as she looked at her brother, but Lyn continued his explanation.
"That tower is a holy site dedicated to a god known as Seraph Null. A lesser god feared even in Aetherus."
Lazarak shrugged, a sneer forming on his face.
"Let me guess. Seraph Null is the right hand of Aetherus and rules this world like a despot."
Sithara pulled her arms tighter around her body.
"I’ve heard they have thousands of troops. And in the tower, the ruler of this world, Seraph Null, can descend and bring forth calamities that can reshape the world."
Damon remained unfazed. A seventh class advancement for Seraph Null wasn't a concern to him.
"So what. He can shape the world and destroy continents. My grandfather can blow up a whole continent if he feels like it. He’s not special."
A glimmer of hope appeared in Sithara’s eyes.
"Really. Then can you call your grandfather, mister."
Damon cleared his throat awkwardly.
"Ahem. He hasn’t been born yet."
Lyn leaned toward Sithara, whispering into her ear.
"I think this guy is crazy. Remember, those who grow to the limits of humanity are often madmen."
Damon gritted his teeth in irritation.
"I can hear you. And the third class advancement is not the limit of humanity. There are whole other ranks."
Lyn shook his head, looking at Damon with pity as if he were the one who had lost his mind.
"No. The highest humans achieve, or rather any goddess races achieve, is the fourth class. Only those close to the gods can do that."
Damon scoffed, his face twisted in disgust. This zero epoch was truly a pathetic era.
"Hate to burst your bubble, kid, but there are ranks even higher than the seventh class. Humans in other worlds have done so and reached them. In the world I came from, the strongest rule at the seventh class, and they did all that without a single lesser god."
He thought of geniuses like his uncle Cassain, Seras Blade, Lilith Astranova, and even himself.
Sithara looked at Lazarak, who was clearly a divine being.
"So you didn’t get this power from him."
Damon shook his head firmly.
"No. My power is mine and mine alone, because I was the one who suffered for it."
"So no god helped you even a little." Lyn asked, his voice full of skepticism.
Damon had indeed received a system from an unknown god, which contributed to his strength, however...
"No. I didn’t get help from any god."
This was technically the truth, considering the unknown god was actually a demon.
Lazarak smiled as he watched their back-and-forth.
"Well then, shall we. Which way to Yari."
Lyn looked between Damon and Lazarak.
"We’re really headed to Yari."
Damon nodded, a dark glee shining in his eyes as he looked at the fabric-wrapped spear strapped to the lesser demon’s back.
"Yes. We’re going to kill some people and crush a god."
Lyn’s eyes widened in shock.
"We don’t have the numbers for that."
Damon gave a soft chuckle.
"Don’t worry. If everyone is going there, then it means I should have some friends there. I may not look it, but I’m very popular."
He began to walk away with confident, steady strides.
"Ehrm, wait. Wait." Sithara shouted.
Damon waved his hand dismissively as he continued.
"Relax. I can’t be killed by normal means. We shall be victorious. You have me, don’t you."
"No, not that. You’re going the wrong way."
Damon stopped in his tracks, his confident aura faltering.
"Ahem." He cleared his throat.
"Which way was it again?"
Lyn pointed toward the direction of the sun.
"East."
Lazarak covered his mouth with both hands, his shoulders heaving as he fought back laughter, much to Damon’s annoyance.
