My Celestial Ascension Chapter 882: Spirit Vein
Previously on My Celestial Ascension...
Aside from Little Zoe and Xi Meili, the mood in the room grew heavy as everyone took on a solemn air.
The two of them appeared entirely at ease, seemingly oblivious to the peculiar pressure permeating the area.
With a grave look, Lady Hexryn focused on Yuan and questioned, "Knowing the hostility between demons and humans, what brings you to the Demonic Continent?"
"Is there a particular motivation for your arrival? What is the actual objective behind your journey to the Demon Empire?"
Lady Hexryn’s inquiries were blunt and firm; she maintained unwavering eye contact with Yuan while awaiting his response.
'I get it... she remains wary of us. It makes sense why she requested this "conversation." She wants to prevent a mass panic among the populace once our background is revealed.' Yuan chuckled internally, seeing through Lady Hexryn’s plan.
After a short silence, Yuan offered a serene smile and replied, "We do have a specific purpose for visiting the Demonic Continent. However, you can be certain that we have no desire to interfere in the business of demons."
"Can you confirm that you have no ties to the Holy Church?" Lady Hexryn asked piercingly, her eyes locked onto his. "For all I know, you are spies dispatched by the Holy Church to gather intelligence on demons."
"You even have an angel in your company. You must be aware that we detest angels. They are servants of the gods and the Holy Church," Lady Hexryn added, directed a frigid stare toward Selvariel.
"Allow me to clear up that misconception before it goes any further, Duke Hexryn," Yuan stated with poise.
"I am not affiliated with the Holy Church or any other power in this realm, and neither are my wives. As for Selvariel, she is merely my captive."
"Hmm... a captive? Then why is she unrestrained? Shouldn't she be bound in chains like a common slave?" Lady Hexryn asked, visibly startled though she tried to hide it.
Yuan let out a quiet laugh at her words. "There is no requirement for such measures. Selvariel is wise enough to understand the consequences should she attempt to flee."
He then added, "As for the Holy Church, there is no need for concern. The Holy Church no longer exists in this world."
Lady Hexryn’s face went stiff, her eyes widening with shock as she gazed at Yuan.
"W-What do you mean it no longer exists? Are you claiming it has been wiped out?!" Lady Hexryn asked, her voice shaking from the revelation.
Yuan smirked as he dropped the bombshell. "The Holy Church was decimated a few months ago. It has been entirely erased from existence."
"What?! That is impossible!" Lady Hexryn cried out, her mind reeling with disbelief.
"When I am involved, anything is possible, Duke Hexryn. You simply need to have faith," Yuan remarked with a confident grin.
Lady Hexryn was paralyzed by the news that Yuan was the one responsible for the Holy Church's downfall. That organization had been a titan, backed by the very gods of the High Heaven.
Yet, the youth standing before her was the one who had brought about its total annihilation.
'Just as I feared... this young man is far more than he seems. A monster is hidden behind that attractive face,' Lady Hexryn thought, realizing she had completely misjudged Yuan's depth.
'Still, I cannot tell if he is being honest or simply lying to me... I have no means of verifying his claims.'
'The barrier remains active, and although we can survive within it, the true danger is the sea monsters prowling the depths.'
With such formidable beasts guarding the waters, demons were trapped, unable to cross the barrier to reach other continents.
For the moment, Lady Hexryn felt compelled to trust Yuan’s account. Judging by his demeanor, he seemed to be speaking the truth.
Lady Hexryn was a sharp woman. She had survived countless wars against the Holy Church, killed many of their champions, and navigated the treacherous politics of the Demon Empire.
She had handled backstabbers and silver-tongued nobles, yet Yuan remained a total mystery to her.
One thing was certain: the way he spoke suggested he was definitely linked to the Holy Church’s end.
After a while, once she regained her composure, Lady Hexryn asked, "So, what is the actual reason for your trip to the Demonic Continent? You wouldn't brave the barrier without a target."
Yuan paused to reflect before answering calmly, "Our objective is straightforward—we are looking for something. I suspect this continent holds the leads we need to find it."
Shortly after, Lady Hexryn stood up from her seat and said, "We shall conclude our talk here. I have learned what I needed."
"In that case, we will depart. Our schedule is tight... perhaps if we require aid in the future, you might be willing to assist," Yuan said, standing up with a smile.
"Certainly," Lady Hexryn nodded with a faint smile, then leaned in to whisper, "Just ensure you do not stir up trouble in my city... or I will be forced to place you all under arrest."
She continued, "Keep in mind, this isn't the Human Continent where you can do as you please. Do not draw unnecessary attention to yourselves, or you will find yourselves in a difficult position."
"We will keep that in mind," Yuan nodded, his expression suddenly turning freezing. "However, I should warn you as well—no one has ever survived after becoming my enemy."
A shiver raced down Lady Hexryn’s spine as she met Yuan's gaze. She realized he wasn't making a threat or trying to act tough. He was simply stating a reality.
"Is that so... I will remember that," Lady Hexryn managed a forced chuckle, trying to keep her cool.
Soon after, Yuan and his wives exited the manor and headed back to the city square to find lodging for the night.
After a short search, they located a high-end inn with luxury suites. Money being irrelevant, they booked several rooms immediately.
"That demoness... she is quite cunning. I'm certain she has already assigned someone to shadow us," Valeria remarked seriously as she sat on the plush bed.
Aisha agreed, saying, "Exactly. She was clearly testing us to see what we were up to. Fortunately for her, we don't care about demon politics."
"Still... she has quite the gall to threaten us, wouldn't you say, Darling?" Anna Grace said with a playful grin, completely unbothered by the earlier tension.
"True. But her warnings are irrelevant. We don't intend to stay here long anyway," Yuan answered with a smile, pulling her into an embrace.
"However, there is a detail you all seem to have missed... or perhaps you haven't noticed it yet," Yuan said, his smirk returning.
"Which is?" Angela asked, her curiosity piqued.
Yuan’s tone turned serious. "The fact that every demon we have encountered possesses Spiritual Energy instead of Mana. Even the commoners show traces of Spiritual Energy."
"The more powerful the demon, the denser the Spiritual Energy in their bodies. It is almost like a Cultivator... but I have checked repeatedly. None of them are actually Cultivators."
"Isn't that odd? They have no Cultivation techniques, yet they possess and fight with strong Spiritual Energy. This is a development I didn't expect," Yuan said, crossing his arms in thought.
"What?! I didn't notice that at all! How can that be?" several of his wives gasped, their faces full of confusion.
Xi Meili, however, stayed perfectly calm, her expression serene.
"Hubby, I believe it is due to the Spirit Vein buried beneath this continent. I suspect the strange barrier is also a result of that Spirit Vein," Xi Meili suggested after a moment's thought.
Yuan and his wives were puzzled but intrigued by this. Only Fang Xiaoyan seemed to have some knowledge regarding Spirit Veins.
"Are you saying there is a vein deep in the earth here?" Yuan asked, fascinated.
"Indeed." Xi Meili nodded and explained, "Where else would the Spiritual Energy originate? It is the Spirit Vein that generates it all."
"Spirit Veins are the source of Spiritual Energy in this world. Without them, this realm would be devoid of it," Xi Meili said, as Fang Xiaoyan nodded in support.
After pondering for a moment, Xi Meili added, "As for the barrier... it's possible the Spirit Vein was disturbed. Perhaps during the war between the Demon Emperor and the Holy Church. Or it might just be a natural occurrence."
"Can a Spirit Vein be taken or moved?" Yuan inquired.
"It is possible, yes. However, one would need Cultivation beyond the Immortal Realm to do so. Furthermore, extracting a Spirit Vein is a taboo act—it is despised by all Cultivators," Xi Meili explained gravely.
"I see..." Yuan murmured with a sigh.
Hearing Xi Meili’s words, Yuan wondered if Earth also had a Spirit Vein... or if there were hidden Cultivators there.
Unfortunately, he wouldn't know unless he found a way back to witness it himself. He still had no lead on the path back to Earth.
'The Demonic Continent must hold the answer... otherwise, this whole journey is for nothing,' Yuan thought before drifting off to sleep.
