A towering palace of skeletons stood tall, its entire structure crafted from bones into the shape of a massive skull. It was a macabre masterpiece, a giant skeletal frame composed of countless smaller remains. Several figures were seated within this hall. At the head of the group sat a man draped in black robes who appeared to be in his fifties. He was emaciated, his skin clinging so tightly to his frame that he looked like a living skeleton himself.
This individual was Ma Yuzun, the Great Elder of the Corpse Demon Sect, also known as the Skeleton Knight. He was a powerhouse whose mastery of the Blood Bone Grand Magic made the entire Blood Sea Realm tremble at the mere mention of his name. Furthermore, since the Corpse Demon Sect was the top-ranked sect in the Blood Sea Realm, his prestige far exceeded that of an ordinary sect leader. Even when compared to the leader of the Blood Kill Sect, his status was in no way inferior.
Currently, his expression was livid as he stared at a jade slip held in his hand. Seated near him were six others of varying appearances. Judging by their attire, they represented the Yin Yang Sect, the Sick Man Sect, the Poisonous Insect Valley, the Heaven Crippling Sect, the Yin Ghost Sect, and the Sharp Sword Sect. It was clear that each of them held a position of high authority within their respective organizations.
Ma Yuzun set the jade slip down and addressed the group in a heavy tone. "Everyone, have a look at this." He then tossed the slip to the representative of the Yin Ghost Sect sitting nearest to him. Upon reading the contents, the elder’s face twisted. He looked toward Ma Yuzun and asked, "Elder Ma, is this truly the response from the Blood Kill Sect? Is this the Sect Leader's own answer?"
Ma Yuzun gave a nod. "Indeed, it was personally sent by the Sect Leader of the Blood Kill Sect via messenger. His response is right there. Why? Do you have any thoughts on it?" Ma Yuzun’s eyes locked onto the Yin Ghost Sect elder. He was genuinely furious; since ascending to the rank of Great Elder, he had rarely been this provoked. Consequently, his voice was sharp and unfriendly.
The elder offered a bitter smile and shook his head before passing the jade slip along. As each person read it, their expressions turned peculiar. The slip moved from hand to hand until everyone in the room had seen the message, leaving them all with strange looks on their faces.
Once the jade slip had finished its circuit, it returned to Ma Yuzun. Holding it up, he spoke solemnly, "Speak your minds. Our Sect Leaders are currently gathered to drink tea and discuss the Dao. Should we present this jade slip to them? If we choose not to, how are we supposed to respond?"
A heavy silence fell over the room. After a long pause, one elder finally spoke up, "We must send it up. The Sect Leaders gave strict orders to be informed immediately of any news. Regardless of whether the news is favorable or not, it is the official word from the Blood Kill Sect. The final decision rests with the Sect Leaders, not us. We don't have the authority to make this call. Therefore, it is best to pass the information along."
The others contemplated this for a moment before nodding in agreement. They were well aware that the contents of the jade slip were incredibly vulgar and hardly fit for the eyes of their leaders. However, the one who had sent it was the Sect Leader of the Blood Kill Sect. The fact that he dared to reply so crudely when faced with a joint invitation from several Sect Leaders proved he was a madman. No one dared to underestimate such a person, as his actions were unpredictable. It was safer to let the leaders handle it.
Ma Yuzun looked at them and nodded. "Very well, we shall send it up. This matter is indeed beyond our jurisdiction. I never anticipated the Blood Kill Sect Leader would be this insane." With a flash of white light from his hand, the jade slip vanished.
Meanwhile, on a secluded island, a building made of jade had been erected. Inside, several cultivators were enjoying drinks. On a jade table sat cups of white jade filled with amber wine. As they chatted and drank, a short old man suddenly reached out his hand, and a jade slip materialized. He immediately scanned it with his divine sense.
The old man froze upon reading the contents. Then, a smirk played on his lips as he muttered, "I really didn't expect that after all these years, that old fellow's temper would still be so fierce." He handed the slip to the cultivator beside him. That man read it, his eyes flashing with a cold light as he snorted, "He certainly has guts!" He then passed the scroll to the next person.
After circulating among the group, the slip returned to the old man. He looked at the assembled guests and said, "You have all seen what is written. This jade slip was sent by the Sect Leader of the Blood Kill Sect. I won't beat around the bush. Tell me, what do you intend to do?" This old man was the Sect Leader of the Corpse Demon Sect, known as the Corpse Demon Old Man. While he didn't claim to be the absolute strongest in the Blood Sea Realm, he was certainly among the top tier. Combined with the fact that his sect was the most powerful, his status was the highest among those present.
The others were the leaders of the six other sects who had allied to deal with the Blood Kill Sect. Just as Zhao Hai had guessed, the Yin Ghost Sect and the Sharp Sword Sect were the ones who had initially proposed the move against the Blood Kill Sect, reaching out to the others to form a coalition.
The other sects viewed this as a prime opportunity. The Blood Kill Sect had recently endured internal strife and was severely weakened. If the seven sects united to crush their reputation, they could then rally the rest of the Blood Sea Realm to finish them off. Their plan mirrored exactly what Zhao Hai had predicted.
Zhao Hai was also correct that the Corpse Demon Sect hadn't originally intended to move against the Blood Kill Sect, as their territories were far apart. Only four major powers were relatively close to the Blood Kill Sect: the Yin Yang Sect, the Giant Demon Sect, the Yin Ghost Sect, and the Heaven Crippling Sect. Other nearby groups, like the 13 Family Alliance, were not considered top-tier forces.
In the vast Blood Sea Realm, "close proximity" still meant a significant distance. It simply meant there were no other major powers between them. Strictly speaking, the only force truly adjacent to the Blood Kill Sect was the 13 Family Alliance.
As for the Corpse Demon Sect and the others, they stood to gain very little from the destruction of the Blood Kill Sect. At most, they might acquire a few islands, which would then require the arduous process of merging the Island Owners' Godheads with their own islands just to relocate them. To them, the benefits seemed marginal.
However, destroying the Blood Kill Sect wasn't without merit. They could seize treasures accumulated over ten thousand years and the sect's core Cultivation techniques. This potential haul was why they had agreed to the alliance.
In truth, everyone knew that if the Blood Kill Sect fell, the Sharp Sword Sect and the Yin Ghost Sect would be the primary beneficiaries due to their location. This was why those two were the most enthusiastic about the campaign.
Yet, none of them expected the Blood Kill Sect Leader to flatly refuse a meeting. It took them by surprise. Even though the invitation only bore the names of five Sect Leaders, those names carried immense weight. They assumed the Blood Kill Sect wouldn't dare decline, let alone send back such a crude and arrogant letter.
"I'm not coming. If you have something to say, say it!" No one had anticipated such a domineering response. They were all peers of the Blood Kill Sect Leader, yet he had treated them with utter contempt. It was a shocking insult that gave them no face at all.
A man in black robes, typical of the Yin Ghost Sect, snorted coldly. "The Blood Blade Demon has gone too far. How dare he speak to us this way? We should tear him to pieces!" The speaker was the Sect Leader of the Yin Ghost Sect, the Venerable of Ten Thousand Ghosts, Yama’s Order. His name was unique; it was said he changed it to signify that if he ordered someone to die by midnight, they would never see the dawn.
The "Blood Blade Demon" was the nickname of the Blood Kill Sect Leader. He had earned it in his youth while traveling the world, as his blade work was said to be like that of a demon. His actual name was Thousand Blade, which sounded like a title taken after his rise to power, but it was his birth name.
Hearing Yama’s Order, the others nodded in fury. As Sect Leaders of high standing, they could not tolerate being addressed in such a manner.
A strikingly handsome cultivator dressed in fine robes spoke up. "Now that we know the Blood Blade Demon's position, there is no reason to delay. I suggest we return, mobilize our disciples, and launch an assault on the Blood Kill Sect. A war is inevitable now. Once the seven of us strike, the 13 Family Alliance will join in, and other sects will surely follow our lead. Even if the entire Blood Sea Realm doesn't join, our combined strength alone is more than enough. If we strike together, I refuse to believe we cannot wipe the Blood Kill Sect from existence!"
The group voiced their agreement. The speaker was Ji Chunfeng, the Sect Leader of the Yin Yang Sect, known as the Yin Yang Scholar. Despite his refined looks, he was a notorious devil who cultivated by absorbing the essence of others, having caused the deaths of countless female cultivators. Though he was loathed throughout the Blood Sea Realm, his profound Cultivation and his status as a Sect Leader meant no one could touch him.
