"Disciple, continue your martial arts practice diligently. I am heading out to fetch some wine," Yi Feng instructed Zhong Qing at the shop's entrance before departing, a wine gourd gripped in his hand.
"Master Yi."
"Greetings, Master Yi."
"Ahaha, it has been quite a while," Yi Feng replied, smiling and bowing politely to everyone he encountered.
"Master Yi, why don't you come up and join us?"
The fragrance of perfume and rouge filled the air as several elegant, delicate women leaned from an upper floor, waving their silk kerchiefs toward him.
"Ahem, perhaps another time," Yi Feng replied, declining the invitation with a hint of embarrassment.
"Oh, don't be like that, Master Yi. Since you are so handsome, we will let you have a few drinks on the house," the women teased with giggles.
"I think I'll pass; I wouldn't want you ladies taking advantage of me," Yi Feng joked, rolling his eyes playfully. Though they weren't close friends, they were familiar faces in the neighborhood.
Suddenly, a disturbance erupted further down the street, sending peddlers and errand boys scurrying forward.
"Master Yi, come see! A stray, foolish dog has appeared out of nowhere. Dog meat is a rare treat, especially paired with wine!" a peddler shouted toward him.
"Dog meat is indeed a delicacy. If you manage to catch it, be sure to save me half a catty!" Yi Feng called back.
He knew dog meat was tasty, but with such a massive crowd chasing it, he doubted any would be left for him.
Just as he turned to continue toward the winery, the chaos surged in his direction. He spotted a mob wielding wooden sticks and carrying poles, all swinging at a clumsy-looking dog.
Before long, the animal was being pelted mercilessly, yelping in pain as it scrambled to escape.
The dog was suffering immensely.
Curse these mere mortals! How dare they stand in my way? Do they truly believe they can restrain me? I am the mighty Devouring Sky Demon Wolf, yet these humans dare to call me a 'silly dog'?
Damn it all!
It dashed frantically, searching for a gap in the crowd. Suddenly, its gaze locked onto an opening.
Aside from a handsome young man strolling casually with a wine gourd, the path ahead seemed clear.
This was the moment to strike!
It would simply bowl over this final mortal. Once past him, the crisis would be over.
The wolf felt entirely certain that even the tiny remnant of its demonic power as the Devouring Sky Demon Wolf was far more than any ordinary human could withstand.
Unseen by the crowd, a sun-shaped mark hidden on the dog’s brow began to glow faintly. Ripples of transparent energy radiated outward as it lunged directly at Yi Feng.
"Shaolin Leg!"
At that exact moment, Yi Feng lashed out with a kick.
Bang!
The sound of the impact was surprisingly loud.
"What?"
The dog’s dazed expression froze instantly. Colliding with Yi Feng felt like slamming into a solid wall of vajra. Its head spun as it saw stars, but the most shocking part was that its remaining demonic power vanished the instant it touched Yi Feng’s foot.
"How can this be?!"
The dog tumbled across the ground, its jaw working wordlessly before it finally lost consciousness.
"As expected of Master Yi!"
The surrounding crowd erupted in cheers and congratulations after seeing Yi Feng neutralize the dog with a single strike.
"I just got lucky," Yi Feng said with a modest smile, clasping his fists. "Does this mean the dog belongs to me?"
"Of course, it is all yours, Master Yi," the people shouted in agreement.
Had it been anyone else, a fight might have broken out over the prize, but everyone respected Yi Feng’s character. Since it was just a stray dog, no one felt like arguing.
"My thanks, then. I shall take it," Yi Feng said graciously.
With a smile, he grabbed the dog by a hind leg and dragged it along as he resumed his trip to the winery.
A short time later.
Luo Lanxue and the Qingshan Patriarch finally arrived at the entrance of the martial arts school.
"Master, we have arrived. This is the place," Luo Lanxue said with a serious expression.
Upon hearing her words, the Qingshan Patriarch looked up to inspect the building.
The entrance appeared ordinary, showing nothing out of the blue. Above the door hung a signboard featuring the character "Wu" for martial, carved with masterful precision.
However, when the Qingshan Patriarch focused on that "Wu" character, his entire frame shuddered. To his eyes, the character shifted, becoming a colossal fist that came crashing toward him.
Step, step, step...
Caught off guard, the Qingshan Patriarch stumbled back several paces.
When he looked again, the "Wu" character had returned to its static state on the board.
"Master, is something wrong?" Luo Lanxue asked, concerned.
"It is nothing."
Despite his quick denial, his face remained ashen, and his back was soaked with cold sweat.
Once he had regained his composure, he turned to Luo Lanxue. "My disciple, did you observe the 'Wu' character on that sign?"
Luo Lanxue gave a nod.
"That single character holds an incredible amount of martial power!" the Qingshan Patriarch whispered in disbelief. "I previously assumed this senior was merely at the Warrior Emperor level, but it seems I have gravely underestimated his true depth!"
"What? Master, what are you saying?"
Luo Lanxue's lips parted in pure shock.
