In the suffocating darkness of the distorted corridor, Xu Rong froze in terror as terrifying beams of light surged toward them from all sides, shattering her understanding of the world. Wu Tao, utterly calm, waved them away with ease, forcing a pained cry from the hidden attacker who then fled into the shadows. Carrying the collapsed Xu Rong to a sunlit island amid the endless ocean, he called out to the unseen foe, and with a single stomp on the sand, unleashed monstrous waves that rippled across the seas, shaking the entire world.

Vast ocean waves crashed over the whole planet.

Starting from a mere hundred zhang in height, they ballooned to a staggering thousand zhang, racing toward every part of the earth.

"Maximum Alert! Eagle Island faces a thousand-zhang tsunami never seen before in history. The top evacuation alert is in effect, and the destruction is beyond measure!"

"Breaking News! A massive tsunami has struck near the Mulu Nation's shores. An unidentified typhoon has hit land. A country-wide top emergency evacuation order is out, with all power and transport systems shut down!"

"Emergency Notice! A historic super tsunami is heading to shore. All coastal people must leave right away..."

...

In the office, Captain Hao tuned into the news reports on his phone. Utterly speechless, he flung the device away, his face twisted in deep frustration.

"The world is turning more absurd by the day!"

"Those wild Phantom Spirits were trouble enough. We barely got things under control and calmed the public. But these TV outlets just want chaos—they spread all kinds of false reports without any shame!"

"They'll do anything for views! Do they even grasp what a thousand-zhang tsunami implies? Total rubbish!"

The longer he looked, the more furious he became.

Captain Hao shot to his feet and paced to the window, hands clasped behind him, irritation boiling over.

The agony of waiting for updates on that horrifying being was bad enough. He'd checked his phone after a long break just to ease the tension, but instead got bombarded with junk news. It set his temper aflame.

Right as his irritation peaked.

He spotted the Investigation Bureau staff outside the glass rushing about in chaos. They dashed everywhere in panic, like a huge catastrophe had hit.

Captain Hao, with all his years of service, had never witnessed anything like it.

Unbidden, his forehead creased deeply.

"Could it be..."

"That scary outsider near the city—is it really an invader from another race? Has it breached the city today?!"

This idea made him stiffen, and he grabbed the desk phone fast to dial his secretary.

Yet.

As he lifted the receiver, his secretary burst into the room in a frenzy!

"Head Captain!"

"Disaster has struck! We just got..."

The secretary didn't finish before the Head Captain shot him a icy stare and barked!

"Why the hysteria? Have some decorum!"

"Even if that alien menace has invaded the city, the whole Demon Hunting Department..."

Midway in his stern lecture, though, the secretary cut in sharply!

"The General Bureau sent a message!"

"Thousand-zhang tsunamis are ravaging the globe! In under an hour, a catastrophe never before seen will flood every continent's shores. The General Bureau demands we send out teams now and head to the coast without delay!"

The near-shout froze the Head Captain, his eyes bulging.

Doubt, surprise, and horror!

In mere moments, his face shifted wildly, and he stepped forward in shock!

"What!"

"A real thousand-zhang tsunami exists?!"

Not pausing for the shaky secretary's answer, he seized the paper and pored over it. A quick read made his eyes spasm!

"Drastic shifts in the Taitian Ocean; waters have risen a thousand meters suddenly!"

"The surges keep expanding, slamming into global coastlines!"

"Ten minutes back, the peaceful island country sank entirely!"

"Projected that within thirty minutes, a doomsday tsunami worse than any in human history will hit our nation's coasts. All Demon Hunting units must urgently deploy forces for instant support. Race to the closest shore no matter what. Disobeyers face military punishment!"

...

A fast glance at the report terrified Captain Hao so much his legs buckled. He collapsed onto the couch, his glasses slipping off in fright and clattering to the ground!

His mouth shook as he mumbled over and over, his complexion ghostly pale!

"This... this... this!"

"A genuine doomsday tsunami... impossible!"

"Report this upward now! Spread the commands fast! Order every captain-rank expert to the coast at once. Delay by a single second, and face immediate execution!!!"

Though fear gripped him fully, his bellow to enforce the directives rang out instantly!

Captain Hao was typically unflappable before. He wouldn't flinch if a mountain crumbled ahead. Even against a monstrous threat storming the city, he'd rally his forces and lead them. He'd stand firm to the end, giving his life for the people.

Still.

He hadn't imagined the "fake news" he'd dismissed was a true unfolding nightmare!

A thousand-zhang tsunami!

No catastrophe this vast had ever hit the world since time began. It struck nearly everywhere at once. The death toll and ruin were already unimaginable; it dwarfed even the Ice Age!

To call it an end-times event was no overstatement!

This worldwide crisis hit with brutal speed and surprise. Nobody had the means or warning to counter it—escape was just a fantasy!

All they could manage was to sacrifice everything to cut the losses as much as possible. The fallout was too horrifying to dwell on!

If Captain Hao drowned in such utter hopelessness, the secretary was petrified too. His earlier frantic yell stemmed purely from obligation and resolve, pushing past his fear briefly.

Now, he stood frozen.

Catching sight of this, Captain Hao exploded in anger, leaping up and thundering!

"Idiot!"

"Transmit the alert now! Mobilize every elite in the bureau for backup immediately!!!"

The yell boomed across nearly the whole Investigation Bureau.

The secretary jolted awake, replying in a strained, quivering tone.

"The superiors already sent the directives!"

At that, Captain Hao reined in his fury. But he couldn't spare a second to rest. He fired up multiple comms lines, ear pressed to them for incoming info!

Watching his frantic, sky-falling panic, the secretary was too afraid to speak.

He lingered silently nearby, whispering in dread.

"C-C-Captain, what do we do? Can we aid the coast at all!"

The words reached him.

Captain Hao's gaze dimmed. He balled his fists hard for seconds, his features going deathly gray!

"Against this planetary calamity, we're utterly helpless..."

"Our only hope is to pray the skies take pity and shield our shore dwellers. Fewer deaths would be a miracle."

These grim words sent the secretary tumbling to the ground.

He glanced over in heavy gravity, finding the usually mighty Head Captain with dulled eyes. Despair and remorse wrapped him, sweat pouring down!

As the captain stated.

Before such a monumental calamity, even the mightiest were mere specks. Rushing demon-hunting masters there would change little.

Next to the forces of nature, people were always so tiny.

Without actual deities in the world, none could halt the coming wave of death.

Right then.

Pingjiang City sank into total quiet, and global humanity wrapped in sheer dread. Their forgotten awe of the wild had roared back to life!
