Leo Ray activates a seventh-tier Defense Scroll to protect the magic crystal as parasites launch ferocious assaults, with the ursine beast shattering the barrier and exposing the vulnerable array eye. Moli diverts incoming attacks through a space rift, but the swift fishman parasite nearly strikes until General Peter, momentarily regaining clarity from the Annihilation Array, intercepts it fiercely. Amanda and another Divine Stone General join the fray, blocking additional half-step seventh-rank threats just as the magic sky closes, weakening the invaders and enabling a brutal counteroffensive that clears the temple of enemies.

“It worked at last.”

From his position atop the City Wall of Observation City, Leo Ray gazed down at the metropolis enveloped by the Holy Sky, gleaming brilliantly in all directions, a swirl of complex feelings stirring within him.

Now, the haze across different areas of the city began to dissipate slowly. Even though it appeared battered and scarred, the inhabitants showed no dread toward the onslaught from the Corrosion and Parasite assaults. Rebuilding from scratch was surely within their grasp.

Letting out a breath, Leo Ray turned his attention once more to the notification panel before his eyes.

The bottom of the notification panel showed Observation City's collapse rate locked at 20.5%, signaling that total defense collapse was merely a hair's breadth away.

One could easily picture, based on the notification voice's character, that even a triumph over the Grand Army of Corrosion might leave him and his allies trapped indefinitely if the collapse rate failed to hit the required threshold.

This reflection sent a chill down Leo Ray's spine as memories of the deceptive notification voice from the Nihility Illusion resurfaced.

Though that voice proved illusory, its portrayal of the Lord likely strayed little from the truth.

Without doubt, he could be the Chosen Hero in his particular realm, yet countless realms—hundreds of thousands or beyond—existed alongside it.

The notification voice, masterminding the entire scheme, viewed him as utterly ordinary, just another face in a vast multitude.

“On that note, with the notification voice lingering over this territory while the Corrosion still rages unchecked, and recalling the initial details about venue number ‘001621,’ countless realms must mirror the ordeal Old Book endured.”

“No Otherworldly Lord’s Advent has occurred here; it all feels orchestrated. What scheme does the notification voice pursue? Utterly beyond comprehension.”

While Leo Ray mulled these thoughts, Curry and Old Book's voices reached him: “City Lord, I report that the Grand Army of Corrosion beyond the walls has fully withdrawn!”

“Wonderful! This triumph will etch itself into the annals of the Ten Thousand Clans for eternity! Such a win is exactly what the Ten Thousand Clans crave!”

The elderly Old Book, his weathered features brimming with thrill and energy, strode toward Leo Ray, bursting forth passionately: “Lord Brave, we owe you immense gratitude for everything you've achieved for Observation City. Your bravery and resolve shall echo through the ages! It will inspire our path ahead—ten thousand thanks to Lord Brave for rescuing this city!”

With those words spoken, the veteran City Lord dropped to his knees, offering Leo Ray a profound salute.

“Ten thousand thanks to Lord Brave for saving this city!”

Trailing the old City Lord, be it Curry, the other General Divine Stones, or the City Guard, all followed suit, the sharp clang of armor echoing sharply.

Beyond the soldiers close by, those emerging from the Temple—soldiers and civilians alike—couldn't contain their appreciation, surging toward Leo Ray and his companions, inundating Observation City with exuberant shouts and celebrations.

“Old City Lord, stand up, please. Everyone here shares in this success. We merely pushed a touch ahead; nothing extraordinary.”

Leo Ray carefully assisted Old Book upright, a faint smile on his lips.

Soon after, Leo Ray's face grew serious once more, his eyes scanning the nearby City Guard.

These steadfast warriors of the Human Clan and Dwarf Elf hybrid bore deep wounds, numerous ones with blood-soaked dressings, evident signs of rushed bandaging.

“Regardless of their realm, these fighters earn true admiration, for they built unyielding barriers with their own flesh to halt the devastating surge of the Grand Army of Corrosion.”

Deep inside, Leo Ray exhaled softly, his focus ultimately landing on Peter, Amanda, and the third General Divine Stone.

These three General Divine Stones had previously succumbed to the Corrosion and Parasite, yet in the pivotal instant, they overcame the invading Corruption through raw determination and returned to guard the Array Eye.

Without their resolve, the result could have veered drastically otherwise.

Even if just a single Corrosion afflicted each, every instance connected to the Ruins Returner. Thus, they essentially defied the whole Corrosion force through their sheer will.

Amid Leo Ray's reflections, the veteran General Divine Stone Peter abruptly coughed up a glob of dark blood, his ashen face draining of any hue as he wobbled and collapsed to the earth with a thud.

Peter wasn't alone; Amanda and the other General Divine Stone toppled in sequence, thick ebony blood spilling from their pallid mouths, expressions twisted in excruciating agony and suffering.

The abruptness caught all onlookers off guard, exchanging bewildered glances, as Leo Ray swiftly hoisted the closest elderly General Divine Stone, ready to unleash the Tier 6 Healing Scroll now in his grasp.

“Lord Brave, such efforts are futile.”

Old Book crouched as well, offering Leo Ray a sorrowful shake of the head: “Thanks to the Annihilation Array's power, the Corrosion afflicting the three generals has been purged, but the parasitism's effects can't be undone. Removing the Corrosion seals the host's doom, a harsh truth etched into our history across millennia.”

“Yes, Lord Brave, save those valuable scrolls for elsewhere; they're wasted on me.”
