“I’m sorry, venerable City Lord, my arrival is delayed.”
In the vivid purple glow of magic, Leo Ray’s features stood out strikingly. He gave a slight bow to Book and declared, “Remember, I’m the champion called forth by the Deity. No way would I allow you to confront the foes by yourself?”
Upon catching Leo Ray’s statement, an overwhelming wave of appreciation and admiration surfaced on the elderly Book’s creased visage. Overcome with emotion, he found himself unable to speak, merely nodding vigorously.
The veteran City Lord was fully aware that while Leo Ray and his allies had been summoned to this realm, and the deity might have imposed certain obligations, in the end, this bold young lord held no true ties to this territory.
The Corrosion Grand Army’s brazen rampage across this domain stemmed from the distrust and wariness that once gripped the Ten Thousand Clans, enabling the Corrosion Grand Army to overwhelm them sequentially like a surging flood.
Once the Divine Stones began breaking apart successively and the Ten Thousand Clans recognized their error, it was far too late; these outcomes were solely the consequences the Ten Thousand Clans had wrought upon their own soil.
Nevertheless, Leo Ray and his team didn’t just endure the perils and calamities tearing through this land; they also freely supplied a hoard of Divine Stone Weapons and additional supplies. Free from the snares of Corrosion and never belittling their adversaries, they consistently battled modestly beside the commanders. How could such conduct fail to win the old City Lord’s admiration?
Beyond old Book, Curry and the rest of the generals, upon spotting Leo Ray’s form, felt a tremendous boost in morale, their determination surging anew. In particular, Asher Porter and his comrades were thrilled beyond measure, shouting at the top of their lungs, “Your Majesty is mighty!”
“You insignificant bugs, I never thought you’d pierce the Void Space and manage to locate the route to this place. Clearly, that pink bug put in considerable effort.”
Blessed by the Ruins Returner, Lion King Feld instantly comprehended the situation, curling his lips in a sneer—his rigid mouth obscured by crystalline formations—and remarked, “Yet what difference does it make? This metropolis is firmly under our control; what impact can you possibly have?”
Scarce had Lion King Feld’s haughty words subsided when an untimely alert echoed forth.
[Prompt: Observation City is currently lost by 29%. If the percentage drops to 20% or the Central Temple is breached, it will be deemed a defense failure.]
[Prompt: Observation City is currently lost by 28.5%. If the percentage drops to 20% or the Central Temple is breached, it will be deemed a defense failure.]
“Looks like my timing is perfect; the situation hasn’t spiraled beyond salvage yet.”
Leo Ray ignored the ongoing alerts chiming in his ears, turning his full concentration to the Parasite looming ahead.
Leo Ray knew full well that swiftly eliminating these three half-step Seventh-rank Parasites was essential to reignite the dim spark of hope that darkness was swiftly consuming.
At Leo Ray’s mental command, countless elemental projectiles brimming with ruinous force plummeted from above, slamming straight into Lion King Feld’s cranium. This was none other than Sheila’s strike. As he parried the massive hammer with his blade, Leo Ray had already concealed Sheila within the shadows.
“Those old ploys won’t fool me twice!”
Lion King Feld, evidently drawing lessons from the prior Parasite’s fate, was aware that Sheila perpetually shadowed Leo Ray. Thus, the instant the elemental projectiles launched, his sturdy frame, encased in crystalline protrusions, vaulted back, effortlessly evading Sheila’s assault.
Yet right as he braced to touch down securely, the earth quaked beneath him, and a veil of holy luminescence erupted from the ornate stone walkway before the temple.
In the following instant, bindings of divine light, carrying immense force, burst from the stone slab’s design, rapidly ensnaring the unprepared Lion King Feld. At the glow’s origin stood the aged Book, clutching a Magic Wand stained with blood.
“You aged pest, I’ll rip you apart limb by limb!”
Lion King Feld bellowed furiously as he desperately shattered the restraints. Bolstered by his abruptly swelling colossal muscles and swiftly growing energy shield, the chains aglow with gold snapped apart successively, clattering futilely to the earth.
And while his movements were hindered, a barrage of thunderous booms and elemental projectiles rained down once more, savagely striking the foe.
Amid rumbling detonations that shook the ground, the stone walkway under Lion King Feld’s soles disintegrated utterly, its pale shards scattering before melting instantly in the intense thunder’s blaze, then swiftly solidifying into glassy chunks.
Not solely the walkway fell apart; Lion King Feld’s robust energy shield, which withstood the relentless blasts from the elemental projectiles, nonetheless disintegrated rapidly beneath the all-encompassing thunder’s fury.
As the brilliant violet magical glow at last dimmed, Lion King Feld’s enormous form had toppled to the dirt, the crystalline encrustations over his body charred to cinders, dissolving swiftly into dust, sparing only a scorched colossal corpse belching dark fumes.
“Venerable City Lord, your restraint of the enemy was crucial.”
Leo Ray averted his eyes from the inert corpse and inclined his head toward Book.
“Brave Lord, such commendation is too kind. It was a pre-existing magical snare in the Temple; I simply triggered it. These violators shall pay dearly for their arrogance and haste.”
The elderly Book solemnly brushed a streak of blood from his silvery beard and affirmed, “We veterans shall battle alongside the Brave Lord until our last breath!”
“That’s precisely the reason for my presence; we cannot abandon hope—we have nowhere left to flee.”
Leo Ray surveyed the expansive city shrouded in haze and echoing with arcane blasts; wasting no more time, he, Sheila, and old Book charged at the two Centaur Parasites.
Confronted by Leo Ray, Sheila, Book, Curry, and various other half-step Seventh-order powerhouses, plus numerous allied generals, the pair of Centaur Parasites displayed no trepidation. Rather, their countenances grew savage as they assailed with even greater abandon.
Just as Leo Ray and his allies prepared to clash directly with the adversaries, from behind those foes, silhouettes radiating savage bloodthirst and killing intent hastened forward.
In a flash, more than a hundred infested forms radiating icy presences materialized, their imposing and dynamic presence ascending heavenward. Evidently, their power all surpassed Tier 6.
Within their ranks, six half-step Tier 7 presences stood out, and two forms were unmistakably freshly infested, bearing only vivid crystals on their brows—undoubtedly the two Divine Stone Generals who had been exchanging insights with Leo Ray’s team merely a day prior!
Furthermore, certain Tier 6 Parasites bore traces of fresh Corrosion infestation; not long before, they had been locked in fierce combat.
Gazing upon those vacant and soulless gazes, Leo Ray and his allies’ faces grew ever more somber, each clasping their armaments with firm resolve.
