As the barrier around Zargos's mansion cracks, releasing the First Star's energy and alerting the approaching threat of Morok, Adam awakens from his trance just in time. Inside his mind, he integrates the scarce Dark Energy with his white orb, evolving his [Path of Tragedy] into the powerful [Path of Darkness], a one-time trump card born from desire's darker side. Realizing the peril, Adam shares his Dark Energy with Zargos by clasping hands, unleashing a massive crimson aura that engulfs the territory as enemies draw near.

The deal between Adam and Zargos was finally sealed. Zargos had rescued Adam from the ferocious monster assault, earning a share of the Dark Energy in exchange.

Truth be told, the real value lay beyond just the Dark Energy itself; for Adam, it stemmed straight from the enigmatic black flash, linking it to the First Star and its profound will.

A powerhouse like Zargos could easily uncover Twilight Crystals or pure Dark Energy within forsaken underground temples, yet such finds wouldn't propel his strength forward.

Meanwhile, Adam's predicament, especially his unresolved bond with the black flash, presented an ideal opportunity for Zargos.

Therefore, Zargos's smartest move was to exert every effort in gaining Adam's confidence and forging a solid alliance.

As their hands gripped tightly in agreement, it was evident Zargos had chosen wisely.

Step.

Merra swallowed hard, sensing the overwhelming pressure from Zargos's surging aura. Though she too was a Lord, their power levels differed vastly. Had she been nearer, that intensity would have shattered her bones without warning.

Adam stayed unscathed solely because he was integral to the exchange.

The bulk of the Dark Energy had departed his internal realm, leaving merely a minuscule remnant, far tinier than a droplet, orbiting the white orb.

Indeed, the Dark Energy, akin to other energies, would replenish itself shortly. Zargos hadn't deceived Adam about the absence of permanent harm.

"Gha..."

It took several seconds for Zargos to release a burst of heated vapor as his aura ceased expanding.

Adam swallowed nervously, eyeing the crimson blaze enveloping their surroundings. A beginner might mistake it for Zargos's power, believing the flames authentic, but it was merely his aura manifestation.

"Damn, I feel great!"

Zargos declared, gesturing broadly with his arm.

"Hell yeah! Now, I'll definitely be able to see the shock on Keranda's face! Hahaha, I can't wait for that moment!"

Under normal circumstances, Zargos would keep up his jests and boasts about his enhanced might, but not now.

All at once, his face turned grave as he faced Merra.

"Merra, the energy burst was far more intense than expected. It surely drew attention."

She gave a nod. "I'm ready to take your orders."

"Great. Escort Adam to the basement. Likely, Morok's group will detect your presence, but it's the optimal spot for combat. Endure for a short while, and I'll join you once I've handled the rest."

"Yes! I'll do my best!" Merra hurried to Adam, assisting him to stand.

Despite Adam's recent power boost, the prior battle and transfer of Dark Energy had left him drained. He hobbled along with Merra's support.

Just before exiting the mansion's confines, Adam glanced back at Zargos.

"Hey. If even after all this, you fail to outmatch your sister, I'll be let down."

Zargos responded with a broad grin.

"Hmm? That's your main worry right now? Rest easy. I'm already beyond her in power, no question."

Adam inclined his head and looked ahead.

Zargos observed their retreating figures until they vanished into the darkness, then pivoted toward the encircling jungle.

"Damn, it's Morok of all people. If it were Liliane and her feeble crew, I'd crush them single-handedly, nearly as effortlessly as Goen managed, but... time's not on my side. Merra can't fend them off solo for long."

Zargos cleared his mind with a shake of his head.

His only option was to await their assault and reposition accordingly. He refused to let his home turn to rubble due to his oversight.

...

Crack. Crack. Crack.

Meanwhile, the earthworm, Ramilo, and Alexia pressed onward. They headed toward the Citadel, set to arrive home within hours.

They had put considerable distance between themselves and the Primal Lands, yet...

Twitch. Twitch. Twitch.

Ramilo's sharp hearing perked up. Alexia couldn't overlook it.

"Agh? What was that?" Her eyebrow arched. "Did you sense something? Is it about Adam? Tell me! You sly, plump feline!"

"Hahaha," Ramilo laughed wryly. "Alexia, how can I reply when you fire off three questions together?"

He affirmed with a nod.

"Yeah, you're correct. It concerns Adam. He and Zargos are in the midst of another clash."

"Hmm? Will they triumph?"

That alone mattered to her. She understood victory meant survival above all.

"Sure. But..." His voice grew somber. "It won't be as straightforward as against Goen. Zargos matches my level of strength, and their foes outclass Liliane and her now-eliminated fifth team."

"Wait!" Alexia cried out. "That means we must halt and assist them! Immediately! You're powerful—you ripped that scum's arm off in a flash!"

Ramilo preened, running a paw over his whiskers.

"Flattery aimed my way is always welcome, but trust me, there's no cause for alarm. Zargos plays the fool most of the time, but in that rare 1%... Hell, I'd steer clear of challenging him then."

Alexia smacked her hands down firmly.

"No! Aid him! Please!"

Ramilo erred gravely. He assumed Alexia would heed his reasoning.

Currently, her focus lay on her feelings and urge to support Adam.

'Her loyalty to a friend is admirable, but I'm beyond enduring a woman's shouts for hours on end.'

Tap.

With a quick shadow move, Ramilo pressed his paw to Alexia's neck, blanking her gaze.

He nodded solemnly.

"Yeah, I definitely prefer silence."
