Endless Evolution: Last Star Chapter 1607 1607: Clan and Two Contenders

Previously on Endless Evolution: Last Star...
Morok and his team left the Primal Lands' border, continuing their hunt for Adam amid dense jungles and towering cliffs. From a hidden vantage on a massive tree, Adam and Zargos watched them go, with Zargos revealing he had faked kidnapping Adam after defeating Ramilo to shield him from Morok's brutal squad. Adam, now understanding Zargos's protective motives, learned that he unknowingly harbors Dark Energy from his earlier encounter with the First Star in the Dark Shore, a power Zargos eagerly seeks.

The moment the First Star transported Adam to the Dark Shore turned into a landmark occurrence in his life story. He managed to stay alive by a miracle, aided by three formidable fighters, yet the ordeal proved intensely dramatic since right afterward, a lengthy discussion unfolded with Wilfred.

In spite of everything, Adam joined the rare group of Phantoms who endured the black flash and lived to tell the tale.

He figured that episode belonged firmly to the history books and that the mission's trials had benefited him up to this point, yet suddenly he saw that wasn't completely accurate.

"The Dark Energy...?" Adam questioned, utterly confused.

Only lately had he discovered the presence of Ancient Energy. It represented a superior tier, a potent tool, a precious asset suitable for merely a handful of strikes at most.

Indeed, as time passed, Adam would accumulate more ancient energy, though that lay ahead in his future, not in the present moment.

At this juncture, knowledge of another energy form came to him from the creature that had snatched him away, which ended up being a hidden gift.

The circumstances felt bizarre, making it tough for Adam to recall all the specifics and twists.

However, just a single inquiry gripped him more than the rest:

"So, if I choose to, could I tap into the Dark Energy immediately?" he inquired.

Zargos gave a nod.

"Yes. Under normal circumstances, it would emerge later during your evolution, but brushing against the black flash carries its perks."

"Even so... If this ability has been with me from the start without anyone mentioning it, then it has to pose a threat at my current stage."

Adam fixed his gaze sharply on Zargos.

"Right?"

"Ha, and you think that'll hold you back?" He flicked his hand casually. "True, you were meant to learn of it down the line, but that doesn't faze me. Go ahead because you're Adam Vinter and because I, the one who rescued you, require it!"

Adam found himself at a loss for response.

For one thing, Zargos backed him completely and clearly wasn't a foe, having pulled Adam from the grasp of the pursuing Lords. For another, Zargos acted impulsively, staking Adam's very existence on his gamble.

Yet... Zargos spoke the truth.

The instant Adam grasped the nature of Dark Energy, nothing could halt his progress. The transformation was underway.

"Fine, suppose I manage to reach the Dark Energy. Precisely what do you expect from me? Do you intend to seize my strength?"

Zargos linked his arms behind his head in an easygoing pose.

"No way, you'll keep every bit of your power. No need to fret over that. I'll draw in your energy, but you'll just suffer deep fatigue for several hours. It'll feel like the aftermath of a fight where you've drained your reserves completely."

After a brief pause, Adam agreed with a nod. He knew that, regardless, he'd owe Zargos for the rescue. The odds of Morok's scheme working were slim, but even a 10% chance loomed too large in this bind.

"Incidentally, what if Morok had spotted us? What if they figured out someone intentionally whisked me from Ramilo to prevent my capture?"

Zargos lifted his shoulders indifferently.

"No idea, I'd improvise in the clash. But probably, I'd reduce them all to heaps of cinders, though..." His eyes scanned the surrounding jungle. "It'd be unfortunate to scorch half this splendor."

Astonishment appeared on Adam's features. Such a reply caught him off guard.

'Hmm? Is he saying he'd eliminate them all if pushed? Given he held his own against Ramilo in battle form... it's no shock.'

"Alright... I need to discover how to access the Dark Energy in my Evolution Tree, and then you'll extract it, correct?"

Zargos confirmed with a nod.

"But why do you require it? Will it boost your power somehow?" Adam wondered.

Oddly, Zargos nodded once more.

"At the Second Circle, matters for monsters grow more complicated than before. We face certain requirements too, along those lines. Thus, a single drop of Dark Energy from the First Star itself would enhance me."

He clasped his fingers together.

"Typically, acquiring such a treasure means venturing to the remote edges of the Dark Shore or seeking spots rich in potent Twilight Crystals. But why bother when I've got you?"

Adam rubbed his cheek. He grasped all the dangers, but what options remained? He couldn't simply disregard the new force within him, concealed since the K3 Level's conclusion.

Besides, Adam had no other destination. Ramilo had abandoned him here, leaving him somewhat reliant on Zargos.

"You seek greater strength, I see, but you don't strike me as the type chasing power just for its own sake. What's the real motive?"

"Yes. Since you're an outsider to these realms, you wouldn't know my clan lacks a leader at present."

Adam cocked his head.

"Are you among the candidates?"

Zargos nodded steadily. His expression betrayed little eagerness for the role.

"Is that the drive for your power-up? I mean, would the First Star's energy let you advance?"

"Absolutely, I'll grow stronger, but that's not my aim here. My sister contends for the leadership too. Keranda, a formidable woman."

Zargos flashed a grin toward Adam.

"Essentially, I aim to claim the top spot for myself. All I care about is edging out my sister, even by the slimmest margin. Let her assume the clan head's burdens and duties. That suits her, not me."

"Ha, you realize you're not acting like a brother but like a total jerk?" Adam laughed lightly.

Zargos huffed.

"Naturally! That's the entire scheme!"

Moments later, Adam surveyed their surroundings.

"What's our next move? Do I enter my inner realm?"

"No."

Zargos gestured lazily while rising to his feet.

He brushed off the dirt and eyed Adam with blazing intensity.

"You've just been snatched by a fearsome beast! Bet you're craving some fruit and cocktails right now!"

"Huh?"
