Endless Evolution: Last Star Chapter 1601 1601: Battle in the Tunnel
Previously on Endless Evolution: Last Star...
Adam and Alexia hadn't spent enough time in the Primal Lands to grasp the structure of the existing hierarchy.
They were aware only that the clans and the Old Light stood as the sole superpowers in this realm, yet they remained ignorant of the exact strength each clan possessed.
'Zargos... Does he lead his clan, or is he merely a key figure?' Adam pondered while eyeing the blood-red crimson flames that cloaked Zargos's fists.
His attention shifted to Ramilo, who, in contrast to his rival, showed no rush to unleash his energy.
'Is he truly planning to triumph using only raw physical strength?'
Oddly, Zargos picked up on this too.
"Ramilo, are you attempting to impress the young ones?" His expression stayed serene. "Do you look down on me?"
"Me?" Ramilo thumped his chest proudly. "Come now, Zargos, the entire Primal Lands recognizes the might of you and your clanmates."
"However..."
Ramilo's tone dropped as a sharp glint flashed across his fangs.
"By stepping into this territory, you've overlooked who truly dominates our area!"
Zargos dismissed it with a casual wave, sparks of fire dancing before his vision.
"The strength of a faction isn't what counts—it's the abilities of its members. A faction might boast a million beasts, but if one sweep can wipe them out, what good is that?"
"Ha, true enough, but tough luck for you—I belong to the Old Light, not some clan, and the reason's straightforward!"
Zargos arched a brow, urging him onward.
Clap!
Ramilo slammed his fists together.
"I'm incredibly powerful!"
Zargos responded with a sly grin.
"Regardless, Adam Vinter belongs to me." He shot a look at Adam and Alexia. "You pair, I suggest retreating to the worm's farthest edge and ducking behind the rock slab. I'd hate for a stray blow to harm you."
Ramilo gave a nonchalant shrug.
"Can't argue there. Space is tight, so heed him to stay safe."
Alexia rolled her eyes yet followed their instructions. Adam, meanwhile, inflated his cheeks in frustration.
'Damn, what's unfolding here?' He grumbled to himself. 'Twice today, someone's out to end me!'
That held true, but what truly irked him went deeper: his inability to protect himself. Goen had been the first, and now Ramilo stepped up.
Admittedly, Zargos lacked the ferocity of Liliane and her fifth squad, yet their aims aligned—to seize Adam and deliver him to the Befallen Crown. The distinction lay in motive: one obeyed commands, the other chased a hefty prize.
'Tch, how much longer must this drag on?'
Silvana agreed with a nod. 'Stay composed. Until you grow mighty, such incidents will crop up now and then. The fix? Venture on tasks to less perilous zones.'
Adam peered aside.
'Would heading back to the Tarnished Lands prove wiser?'
Silvana nodded once more. 'Probably so. Though a different section of the Primal Lands might pose fewer risks. It hinges on how the clans here and Old Light folks view you.'
A solid idea, though Adam harbored reservations.
'I'm not convinced...'
'W-What's holding you back?' Silvana sounded puzzled.
'The last two requirements don't seem acquirable in secure spots. Blood of God and Bottomless Void... Sigh, fingers crossed it's simpler than battling Vaarh.'
Adam wished for that outcome, but inwardly, he doubted it would unfold that way.
At present, escaping the Primal Lands proved impossible, with nearly everyone pursuing and aiming to snag him.
"Pfft!" Alexia snickered as the clash ignited. "They sense my superior strength, so they skip trying to grab me!"
In a sense, it might seem silly, but Alexia resented the lack of pursuit toward her—or more precisely, how all focus centered on Adam.
This served as subtle evidence of her inferiority to him, showing other beasts viewed her as neither dangerous nor worthwhile, a bitter pill for her.
"Watch and learn! Soon, a mighty beast will target me over you!" She yelled, cheeks ballooned, glaring at Adam.
Adam rubbed his cheek awkwardly.
"You get that I want none of this and it's nothing to envy, don't you?"
Alexia retaliated by poking out her tongue and spinning away.
"Heh." Zargos let out a laugh. "Craving notice from this world's elites? Then prove your worth, lass. Right now, you're merely a robust K4-Phantom, nothing else."
Step. Step. Step.
Ramilo advanced leisurely, his enormous shadow soon draping over Zargos.
"Yo, Zargos, or am I imagining it—shouldn't you focus solely on me?"
Ramilo bared a broad smile, exposing his lengthy fangs, his once-friendly eyes now fierce and predatory. His pupils had slit, brimming with savage hunger.
Yet Zargos's features remained unmoved, not a twitch in sight.
"Of course. Even blindfolded, I'd track your every move. No footfall of yours slips past me."
Ramilo drew his arm rearward, poised for the blow.
Step!
Zargos countered in a flash by lunging ahead, his fist igniting with vivid fire.
A fiery explosion burst forth as the devastating force hurled Ramilo back dozens of meters.
The colossal beast soared by Adam's stunned stare. He traced the smoky path, keeping pace with the airborne Ramilo.
Like a skilled gymnast, Ramilo twisted mid-air, briefly curling into a fuzzy sphere, then touched down solidly on his feet.
"Hmm?"
He looked downward, swatting away glowing ashes from his torso. A section of his azure fur had charred to a dark, scorched spot.
Zargos extended his arms broadly, a smug curl on his lips.
"Size doesn't guarantee superiority, does it?"
