Endless Evolution: Last Star Chapter 1491: Flight and Knowledges

Step. Step. Step.
Following Damien, Leona, Gary, and Trici stepped out onto the balcony. They had accepted his invitation and were waiting for him to demonstrate how Phantoms achieved flight. To them, such a feat was miraculous, something reserved solely for aircraft or birds.
However, Damien had a different vision. In his mind, simply lifting off into the sky right in front of them would be far too mundane.
“Alright, just keep your cool. Nothing bad is going to happen while I’m around. Hahahah!” Damien let out a laugh as he faced the group.
“Agh?” Leona looked at him with confusion. “Damien, what are you talking about?”
Click.
Damien snapped his fingers, releasing a minuscule fragment of his aura.
That tiny pressure alone was enough to make Leona, Gary, and Trici gasp for air.
“Gha!”
Relief washed over them in the very next second, however, as a pale green energy resembling a soft breeze swirled toward their feet. It condensed into trembling clouds beneath them.
“I already laid out the plan, didn't I? The four of us are heading out for some alcohol! Hahaha! Little Trici will get soda, don't worry—she’s still too young for the hard stuff.”
The gusts of wind gradually intensified until Leona and Gary realized they were no longer standing on the solid floor.
Looking down, they found themselves hovering above the balcony, ascending higher and higher into the night.
Their eyes went wide as their hearts raced with sudden terror. They feared that a single mistake would send them plummeting; at best, they would end up with shattered bones, and at worst, they would meet their end!
As adults, they were fully aware of the dangers, unlike the youngest member of their group.
“Yay!” Trici shouted with joy. “Mom, Dad, look at what I can do!”
While Leona and Gary struggled to maintain their composure, Trici was having the time of her life, spinning through the air as if she were riding a roller coaster.
“Hahaha, hey, can we go even higher?” Trici asked, her eyes fixed on Damien.
Damien gave a casual shrug.
“Of course. That was the plan all along, but be warned, the temperature drops significantly up there. Don't worry, though—my energy will keep you shielded.”
Leona reached out a hand. “Wait, maybe first—!”
Whooooosh.
Damien cut her off with a wave of his hand, causing the wind currents to surge.
The night sky, the balcony, and the glowing city lights below blurred together into a single streak of color before they finally leveled out.
When Leona finally opened her eyes, a chilly gust greeted them at the summit.
While the family struggled to keep their balance on the shifting clouds of energy, Damien stood firmly in the center of the air as if he were walking on solid ground.
What truly took Leona’s breath away, however, was the sight of the clouds—they were no longer drifting above, but were now floating far beneath them.
Above them stretched the pristine night sky, shimmering with a countless multitude of stars, while the entire Citadel was visible through the breaks in the cloud layer below.
Heaven Island, the residence of Queen Elisa, remained concealed. Despite the height Damien had taken them to, they were close but still unable to catch a glimpse of the floating island.
Certain secrets had to remain hidden from ordinary humans for their own protection.
Even though Damien often acted with a reckless air, he understood this better than most. He had no intention of terrifying Adam’s parents and sister with the looming threat of the world’s end.
Instead, he simply wished to provide them with a spectacular view they could never experience otherwise.
“What do you think, Leona?” Damien crossed his arms, gesturing toward the Citadel below. “No skyscraper, not even the tallest one on earth, can compete with this view, right?”
Gary swallowed hard.
“This… This is unbelievable. And you…” He stared intensely at Damien’s feet. “Are you really just standing on thin air?”
Damien shrugged dismissively.
“I promise you, for Phantoms at my level, this isn't anything special. It’s just a basic ability.”
“Wait,” Trici’s eyes lit up as a thought occurred to her. “Does that mean Adam and Alexia can do this now too?”
Leona and Gary both turned toward Damien, eager for his confirmation.
Scratch. Scratch. Scratch.
Damien rubbed his cheek thoughtfully.
“Well, he’s only just learned the basics. To fly—let’s put it this way—requires a massive amount of energy. However, once Adam grows stronger and gains more experience, it will eventually become second nature to him.”
For a long while, Leona, Gary, and Trici took in the scenery while peppering him with questions. Trici was particularly inquisitive. After hearing Alexia’s stories about the Dead Lands, her curiosity had reached a fever pitch, and now she had the chance to get answers directly from Damien.
“Alright, alright, I think we’ve lingered here long enough.” Damien glanced toward the obsidian skyscraper in the distance. “We promised to go get some alcohol, so it’s time to move!”
With a wave of his hand, the wind gusts propelled Leona, Gary, and Trici forward, slicing through the clouds ahead of them.
It was a brief but life-changing journey for them, an experience that no amount of wealth could ever purchase.
The only thing that brought them equal joy was the realization that their return trip would be exactly the same.
…
Sip. Sip. Sip.
Beth sipped her juice through a straw, her half-lidded eyes fixed on Adam. Unlike the bubbly Alexia, she always appeared to be on the verge of falling asleep, her gaze tinged with a hint of perpetual dissatisfaction.
“While they’re out, we should probably discuss something more vital than shrimp and pineapple snacks, shouldn’t we?”
The four of them nodded in agreement. While Beth lacked the raw power and fame of Damien for obvious reasons, she served as his Operator. She wielded a level of influence and authority that most Phantoms could only dream of.
However, Beth’s true strength lay in her vast knowledge.
While Damien had spent centuries slaying monsters and toppling the mightiest foes, she had spent that time observing and dissecting the triumphs and failures of thousands of other Phantoms and Operators.
Beyond her immense experience, she held access to the most restricted classified data within the Citadel and the inner circle of the Second Rank Phantoms. This was information that could not be bought or found in any library.
“The Blood of God and the Ancient Frost—those are the requirements for your Third Grand Star, correct?” Beth asked, her eyes moving between Adam and Alexia.
Adam nodded. “Yes. Do you have any leads on where we might find them?”
“Well… that’s the problem, Adam.” Beth’s expression grew serious. “No one has any idea. Not even me.”
