Endless Evolution: Last Star Chapter 1468 - Capítulo 1468: Roulette

The dialogue between them stretched on, particularly after Alexia made a point of flaunting the engagement rings she and Louis wore. Adam and Silvana felt more than just a twinge of jealousy; they were genuinely stunned by the reveal.
In the midst of their heated chatter about how much time had passed since their last encounter, they completely overlooked the fact that they were occupying space at a live gaming table. All other participants had finished placing their wagers, and the dealer was watching them with a fixed gaze. He was prepared to set the roulette wheel in motion, but the group needed to either put down their stakes or pass on the round first.
“Ahem, honored guests, do you intend to place a wager for this spin?” the man inquired with a forced cough, attempting to draw their focus back to the game.
Nodding with a sense of guilt, Adam and Silvana turned back toward the table. Alexia, however, didn't seem the least bit bothered about keeping the other players waiting, mostly because the delay didn't concern her at all.
“Fine, stop your fussing! We just haven't run into this pair of lovebirds in ages!”
With that, Alexia grabbed a black chip and dropped it onto the red space.
“100,000 credits on red!” Alexia shouted, a declaration that made several surrounding guests gasp in surprise.
The yellow chips held by Adam and Silvana were worth a modest 100 credits each, but the black one Alexia played represented the highest value available: a single chip worth 100,000 credits.
“Damn, I finally see how you managed to burn through 1.5 million. How can you throw around such massive bets without considering the risks?” Adam shook his head, making it clear to everyone that he found her behavior incredibly reckless.
Admittedly, Adam was prone to recklessness himself, though that usually occurred in the heat of a life-or-death struggle when his adrenaline was surging.
In truth, when facing powerful adversaries, Adam's behavior mirrored that of a gambling addict in a casino. He was driven by an obsession to win that blinded him to everything else until the fight was over.
“Adam,” Silvana murmured, noting the dozen or so guests who were now staring directly at him. “You need to place your bet. This… this situation has turned awkward very quickly.”
“Yeah, alright…” Adam looked down at their pile of chips and gave a small shrug.
Tap!
He landed a stack of ten yellow chips onto the black space.
“1,000 credits on black!” Adam declared with certainty. The croupier nodded, finally able to resume his professional duties and move the game forward after the long interruption.
The dealer silently hoped at least one of them would find success, as it was a significant bet for a pair starting with only 9,500 credits.
“Very well, all bets are closed,” the croupier announced, spinning the wheel and expertly flicking the ball into the rim.
A heavy silence descended upon the table as every eye followed the white ball's rapid orbit.
Whether one was an ordinary human or a Phantom, predicting the ball's final resting place was nearly an impossible task.
It wasn't just the difficulty of calculating the force of the launch against the wheel's rotation in a fraction of a second; it was also because the equipment in this establishment was of the highest caliber.
In older, less refined casinos, roulette wheels often became unbalanced over time. This meant that even with a consistent throw from the dealer, certain numbers might appear more frequently than others.
There were professional gamblers who hunted for such worn-out equipment, using observation and math to identify those biased numbers.
Through sheer patience and calculation, these individuals could overcome the house edge and walk away with fortunes, seemingly defying the laws of luck.
However, such feats were impossible in a modern, high-end casino like this one. The wheel was perfectly calibrated for stability, and hidden pistons beneath the mechanism ensured the rotation speed was randomized after the croupier spun it.
Consequently, even if the dealer were a high-precision robot or someone with the capabilities of Damien, they could not manipulate the ball to land in a specific pocket.
Alexia, Louis, Silvana, Adam, and the rest of the players watched helplessly as the ball bounced from one slot to the next.
The crowd was a mix of silent tension and visible emotional swings, as hope turned to frustration and back again.
Even the dealer felt a slight pulse of nerves, aware that every spin could mean a loss of millions for some and a massive windfall for others.
Tap. Tap. Tap.
Moments later, the wheel's rotation slowed as the ball's kinetic energy faded. In its final breath of movement, the ball skipped out of a red pocket and settled into a black one.
The croupier gave a solemn nod and pointed to the result so the outcome was clear to all.
“Black 21!” he called out.
“YES!”
A few players cheered instantly, while others crossed their arms in annoyance.
Among the winners, one young man was particularly ecstatic:
“Hell yeah! I knew 21 was my lucky number!” he shouted, unable to mask his thrill.
While most had played the safer red or black options, he had taken the high-risk path by betting on a single digit—a classic gamble for those chasing the biggest rewards.
“SHIT!” Alexia yelled, her fist cocked and ready to slam down onto the wood.
Louis intervened just in time, catching her wrist before she could make contact. He had no desire to see her smash the table, which would lead to apologies and tedious paperwork he wanted to avoid.
“Hah, Alexia, have you considered trying a different game?” Adam teased with a grin as he pulled in his chips.
His wager of 10 yellow chips, totaling 1,000 credits, had paid out. He was handed two orange chips, worth 2,000 credits in total.
He had successfully doubled his stake with one right call, but he knew the trick was not to gamble his entire profit on the next turn.
Logic dictated he should only bet another 1,000 credits; risking the full 2,000 would mean he could lose his entire gain in a single heartbeat.
“Pfffft! You only made 2,000! That’s pocket change!” Alexia scoffed.
Adam just shrugged, glancing down at his winnings.
“It might be a small sum, but I walked in with 10,000 and now I'm sitting on 11,500. What's your tally look like, huh?”
Alexia responded by sticking her tongue out at him.
“Again! I’ve got plenty of funds! I want more!”
Adam and Silvana traded a look. They were content to keep playing, at least until the time came to find a different distraction.
