Devouring Evolution: I Reborn as an Arctic Wolf Chapter 6: Chapter 6 The First Fight.

Previously on Devouring Evolution: I Reborn as an Arctic Wolf...
After being moved by the maternal sacrifice of the Wolf Mother, Su Lin resolves to become the ultimate ruler of the Arctic to provide for his new family. While venturing out alone to hunt, he discovers the fresh carcass of a powerful Level 7 Arctic reindeer. To his shock, the animal was not killed by a predator, but by humans who harvested its most valuable parts and left the rest behind. Realizing the grave threat posed by poachers, Su Lin begins to consume the high-level prey to rapidly accelerate his evolution.

Su Lin persisted in his meal, tearing into the meat.

“Ding! Host has acquired 2.8 Evolution Points by consuming Arctic reindeer.”

“Ding! Host has acquired 2.6 Evolution Points by consuming Arctic reindeer.”

“Ding! Host has acquired 2.4 Evolution Points by consuming Arctic reindeer.”

...

A massive quantity of Evolution Points was granted to Su Lin from the Arctic reindeer’s remains.

Su Lin felt his stomach reaching its limit after eating roughly five or six jin of the venison.

He halted his feeding.

Remaining cautious was vital, as this frozen wasteland was a place where peril could strike at any moment.

Overeating was a risk that could easily hinder his agility.

Su Lin’s total Evolution Points had now climbed past seventy, leaving him less than ten points away from his next evolution.

Exerting significant effort, he began dragging the reindeer carcass back toward his cave.

Given Su Lin’s current diminutive size, hauling a two-hundred jin Arctic reindeer was an exhausting task.

Nevertheless, he utilized his human intellect to locate two bushes.

By positioning their smooth branches beneath the reindeer’s torso, he successfully minimized the friction against the ground.

Without the benefit of human logic and perspective,

even the Wolf Father would have struggled to return this carcass to the den alone, let alone a cub like Su Lin.

The trek back was certainly not a short one.

Once his makeshift sled was prepared, Su Lin began the slow journey toward the cave.

Right at that moment,

the scent of blood drifting from the reindeer carcass reached a feline predator covered in grey and white spots.

Guided by the metallic aroma of gore, it tracked the source and crouched low within the shrubbery, its gaze fixed on Su Lin.

After verifying that Su Lin was merely a solitary wolf cub out on a hunt, the feline parted its jaws to reveal lethal Fanged Teeth.

It was a Lynx!

The Lynx is a member of the feline family.

Felines are virtually unrivaled masters among creatures of comparable size.

The Lynx standing before him was roughly the same size as Su Lin, its body wrapped in light grey fur marked by irregular dark spots.

It possessed a distinctly cat-like appearance, resembling a massive domestic cat.

Its ears were sharply pointed, bearing a resemblance to the elves depicted in certain comics.

This beast was a Hunter by nature.

With thick, nimble limbs, it was an expert at swimming and climbing; it possessed incredible patience and could endure freezing temperatures and hunger for days on end.

Like an assassin from ancient times, it remained perfectly still until the moment for a killing blow arrived.

Currently, this Lynx remained motionless in the brush, biding its time.

Though its stomach growled after two days without food, and the tempting scent of blood was right in front of it,

it maintained its composure, suppressing its primal urges.

As Su Lin labored to pull the Arctic reindeer carcass,

suddenly,

he tripped. Overextending his strength, he lost his footing and tumbled to the snowy earth.

Seizing that exact moment,

the crouching Lynx exploded into a sprint, lunging out of the thicket.

Its mouth hung open, exposing glinting, sharp Fanged Teeth.

“Crap! A Lynx!”

Su Lin spotted the predator diving toward him.

In an instant, the Lynx’s attribute screen manifested before his eyes.

Species: Lynx (Female). Level: 4. Qi-Blood: 398. Endurance: 28. Strength: 49. Defense: 19. Speed: 53.

This Lynx was Level 4.

It was one level higher than Su Lin.

Under normal circumstances, a Lynx would avoid a direct confrontation with a wolf.

Wolves generally possess larger frames, superior defensive capabilities, and better stamina than Lynxes.

A Lynx would be at a severe disadvantage if it failed to secure a kill quickly.

They were specialized as ambush hunters, not warriors for a head-on clash!

However, Su Lin was merely a young wolf.

Furthermore, the Lynx possessed a staggering speed of 53 points, nearly matching Su Lin’s speed after his use of the Potential Potion.

The Lynx pounced with ferocity, its eyes burning with the intense focus of a predator.

It intended to end Su Lin’s life with a single strike!

“Ao!”

Su Lin let out a sharp howl, scrambling to his feet with urgency.

Despite his efforts, his reaction was slightly delayed.

The Lynx’s front paw raked across the wolf’s flank, its razor claws shredding through his fur immediately.

The sting caused Su Lin to flinch, but the impact allowed him to create some distance between them.

He realized that this was his first true life-and-death battle since his reincarnation as a wolf!

On the vast, snowy plains of the Arctic Continent,

there is no room for morality, etiquette, or human compassion; only the law of survival of the fittest reigns supreme!

Su Lin had understood this raw, fundamental truth ever since his first hunt of an Arctic rabbit!

To survive, one had to be stronger and more heartless than the opposition!

Even though he was a mere cub and the Lynx outleveled him, his only hope for survival lay in a desperate struggle.

Fortunately, Su Lin’s physical size was comparable to the Lynx’s, and his agility was superior.

Victory was not impossible.

With that realization,

Su Lin bared his own Fanged Teeth at the Lynx.

“Ao!”

He roared!

A savage light flickered within the Lynx’s feline eyes.

Once more, it lunged at Su Lin.

Bang!

The Lynx’s forepaw smashed against Su Lin’s wolf claw!

However, the Lynx clearly possessed more raw strength than Su Lin could currently muster.

Howling in pain, Su Lin was forced to retreat!

He had to rely on his superior speed to engage the Lynx in a battle of attrition!

Su Lin had funneled all his spare attribute points into his speed.

Consequently, he was even swifter than a Lynx, a creature famous for its quickness!

It was 60 speed against 53.

The two moved like blurs, swapping vicious bites and pounces during their rapid exchanges!

Rip!

The Lynx eventually found a gap, its blade-like claw carving another wound into Su Lin’s body.

Blood began to soak into Su Lin’s fur.

In the heat of the fight, Su Lin’s eyes turned a deep crimson.

He lunged for the Lynx’s throat; though the cat managed to twist away, Su Lin’s teeth sank into its flank.

He managed to tear away a chunk of flesh and skin; while painful, it wasn't enough to cripple the Lynx’s fighting ability!

The pain only served to deepen the madness in the Lynx’s predatory eyes.

However, as Su Lin swallowed the piece of Lynx meat, his eyes suddenly brightened.

“Ding! The host has consumed Lynx flesh, gaining 2.5 Evolution Points.”

This was possible?

Su Lin was overcome with joy.

He was currently only 5 Evolution Points away from reaching Level 4.

This meant that if he could rip off just two or three more pieces of the Lynx, he would trigger a breakthrough to Level 4.

The Lynx would be no match for him once he leveled up!

Thus, while continuing the war of attrition, he bared his Fanged Teeth and began to close the distance toward the Lynx, step by step.

A resolute and unwavering light shone from his pale blue eyes.

“Ao!”

A long, piercing howl!

If the beast wanted a fight!

Then a fierce battle it would get!

The Lynx was now completely enraged by Su Lin’s defiance.

It let out an angry roar, its fur standing on end. With a powerful spring, it lunged at Su Lin, its sharp front claws shimmering with a cold, deadly light.
