Devouring Evolution: I Reborn as an Arctic Wolf Chapter 11: Chapter 11 An Encounter with a Grizzly Bear.
Previously on Devouring Evolution: I Reborn as an Arctic Wolf...
Two months had already passed since Su Lin first joined the wolf pack.
During this time, he had developed a clear understanding of the pack's hierarchy.
The Wolf Father, serving as the Lead Wolf, held absolute power within the group, and no member dared to challenge his commands.
If Su Lin intended to disobey, his only option would be to challenge the Wolf Father directly and seize victory.
Given his current level of strength, Su Lin possessed a genuine chance of overcoming the Wolf Father in combat.
However, he chose not to take that path.
As the Lead Wolf, the Wolf Father required his dignity to maintain order and lead the pack effectively.
Should Su Lin defeat him, the Wolf Father's authority would likely crumble, making it impossible for him to manage the rest of the Wolf Clan.
Aside from the Wolf Father, the Wolf Mother, and the Cousin's mother, the current pack was mostly composed of Arctic Wolves who had joined recently.
These newcomers lacked deep-rooted loyalty.
Consequently, Su Lin decided to wait until the afternoon, when the Wolf Father and the others were resting, to head out again.
He settled back onto the rock, closing his eyes to begin his rest.
Xiao Hui mimicked Su Lin's posture and lay down beside him, quickly drifting off to sleep.
By now, Xiao Hui had transformed into Su Lin’s most devoted little brother.
As for the Wolf Sister, who usually slept near Su Lin, she was currently tucked away and sleeping soundly in the Wolf Mother's embrace.
It appeared that she still found the Wolf Mother's warmth more comforting.
Next,
the hours slipped by until it was already late afternoon.
To preserve their energy, the Wolf Father and the rest of the pack remained asleep.
Su Lin rose silently and slipped out of the cave.
He had become well-accustomed to the frozen tundra of the Arctic Continent by this point.
His original plan was to venture out alone.
However, upon looking back, he realized that Xiao Hui was following close behind.
Xiao Hui’s Attributes had also seen improvement over the last few days.
He was nearly at level 3.
Seeing this progress, Su Lin did not force the pup to return to the cave.
"Awooo!"
With a quiet howl, the pair of wolves began their journey.
The sky was overcast today, resulting in poor visibility across the plains.
This weather was exactly why the Wolf Father had decided against a Hunting expedition.
Nevertheless, Su Lin had no intention of stopping now.
He was a mere 5 Evolution Points away from reaching the next level!
Driven by this motivation, he began a rapid search for any nearby prey he could find.
It wasn't long before he came across a nest of Arctic Rabbits.
Arctic Rabbits are a common sight on the Arctic Continent, sustaining themselves on tree roots, plants, and moss.
With Su Lin’s superior Speed, catching these rabbits would have been effortless.
Yet, he did not attack.
The Evolution Points provided by Arctic Rabbits were now so low they were almost worthless to him.
Unless he was starving, hunting them simply wasn't worth the energy.
Behind him, however, Xiao Hui let out a soft howl, seemingly asking for Su Lin's permission to hunt.
Su Lin gave his consent, allowing the pup to hunt as he pleased.
Excitedly, Xiao Hui dashed toward the rabbits ahead.
Because no one in the Wolf Clan had taught him proper hunting techniques, and because he lacked Su Lin’s advanced intelligence, Xiao Hui simply charged forward in a straight line.
Arctic Rabbits are naturally swift creatures.
Their sense of hearing is also incredibly acute.
Long before Xiao Hui could reach them, the rabbits detected his approach.
They immediately bolted in every direction, scattering instantly.
Xiao Hui lunged, but he caught nothing but cold air!
"Awooo!"
Frustrated, the pup stood frozen in place and howled in anger at his failure.
Su Lin could only shake his head as he walked over to the pup.
Smack!
He delivered a light slap, sending Xiao Hui’s head wobbling back and forth.
This was the penalty for a failed hunt.
Afterward,
Su Lin began to demonstrate the art of creeping forward and how to properly camouflage one's body.
Xiao Hui was a diligent student, immediately practicing the movements repeatedly in the brush.
While instructing Xiao Hui, Su Lin continued his search for prey.
However, after scouring a large area without finding anything of value,
suddenly,
their primal instincts flared, making their fur stand on end!
Instantly, Su Lin used a Wolf Claw to pin Xiao Hui deep into the underbrush, making sure the pup couldn't move a muscle.
He likewise concealed his own body within the thick foliage.
His pale blue wolf eyes locked onto a nearby area.
Just seconds later, his instincts were proven right.
A massive Grizzly Bear, standing at least two meters tall and possessing a heavy build, stepped out from the nearby bushes.
It was clear the Grizzly Bear was foraging for food in this territory.
The bear used its claws to scrape small berries from the shrubs, shoving them into its maw.
The diet of a Grizzly Bear is extremely diverse.
They will consume anything from fruits, grass, and roots to insects, fish, animals, and even rotting carrion.
Naturally, an Arctic Wolf could also be on the menu.
Given the current scarcity of food on the Arctic Continent, this Grizzly Bear would not pass up any meal.
Species: Grizzly Bear (Male).Level: 11.Qi-Blood: 1859.Endurance: 125.Strength: 113.Defense: 119.Speed: 43.
The attribute values of the Grizzly Bear manifested before Su Lin’s vision.
These stats were genuinely frightening.
At his current level, Su Lin could certainly outrun it,
but Xiao Hui would not be so lucky.
Even though the Grizzly Bear was cumbersome and slow,
it would have no trouble catching a pup like Xiao Hui, who wasn't even six months old.
Therefore, he kept Xiao Hui pressed firmly down, ensuring the Grizzly Bear did not spot them.
If they were discovered, Su Lin would be helpless to protect Xiao Hui against a beast whose attributes were mostly in the triple digits.
Luckily, the Grizzly Bear remained oblivious to the two wolves hidden nearby.
It was preoccupied with devouring the leaves and berries from the bushes.
After clearing several shrubs of their fruit, the bear slowly wandered off into the distance.
As the Grizzly Bear disappeared, Su Lin finally exhaled in relief and released Xiao Hui.
Xiao Hui had remained perfectly still and silent in the brush; once freed, he gratefully licked Su Lin’s paw.
Smack!
Su Lin slapped the pup’s head with his paw once more.
He had no patience for being licked by other wolves.
However, this close encounter with the Grizzly Bear only intensified Su Lin’s hunger for Evolution and leveling up.
One day, he would surely become the undisputed peak Hunter of the Arctic Continent!
Eventually, even massive predators like Grizzly Bears and Polar Bears would become his prey.
"Ao!"
Su Lin let out a soft howl, signaling Xiao Hui to continue the search for food.
Though the Arctic Continent was vast and desolate, a diligent search could still yield results despite the food shortage.
They crossed paths with a herd of robust moose during their journey.
The herd contained two males with high attributes and sharp antlers—they were two levels higher than the female moose the pack had previously eaten.
Su Lin observed them briefly before deciding to move on.
They also spotted several Arctic Silver Foxes, but the creatures were far too cautious, never giving Su Lin a window to attack.
Finally,
persistence paid off.
Through the tireless efforts of the two wolves, a lone young female Musk Ox appeared in their sights.
This Musk Ox was still immature, possessing a slim frame roughly one and a half meters long.
Long, brown fur covered its body, and horns were beginning to grow on its head.
Its eyes were a striking purple-blue, giving it a beautiful appearance.
Species: Musk Ox (Female).Level: 6.Qi-Blood: 1058.Endurance: 78.Strength: 53.Defense: 51.Speed: 39.
Su Lin examined the attribute values of the Musk Ox before him.
A Level 6 Musk Ox!
"Let's give it a shot!"
Su Lin took a deep breath, slowly baring his razor-sharp teeth as his eyes glowed with the cold ferocity of a predator.
