Devouring Evolution: I Reborn as an Arctic Wolf Chapter 1: Chapter 1 Reborn as a Wolf.
The Arctic is a realm defined by brutal, biting cold.
As winter descended, a profound silence blanketed the world, making the snow-dusted landscape of the Arctic appear even more desolate. The few animals that usually roamed the region had vanished entirely.
Deep within a cave tucked away in this frozen wilderness, a tiny Arctic wolf cub lay slumbering, nestled against the warm, sturdy body of a mother wolf.
Su Lin shifted in his sleep, basking in the pervasive warmth. It was a perfect spot for a nap.
Howl!
A sharp, piercing cry rang out.
Drifting between dreams and reality, Su Lin instinctively tried to raise his arm to rub his eyes.
But... he suddenly jolted awake in a panic!
Hold on... where were his arms?
And... why did his voice sound so strange?
Su Lin was struck with terror as he realized his hands and arms were gone, and his attempt at speech had come out as a wolf’s howl!
“I must be dreaming!”
Su Lin tried to convince himself.
However, when he strained his neck to look down at his body, he was horrified to see that he had truly transformed into a small wolf.
He was a young Arctic wolf, covered in pure white fur and measuring only about 30 centimeters long.
“What on earth is happening?”
Su Lin’s mind went completely blank, his thoughts buzzing in confusion.
Once his panic subsided slightly, he began to piece together the events that occurred before he lost consciousness.
In his past life, Su Lin was a wealthy second-generation heir with a passion for dangerous adventures.
His parents were constantly preoccupied with expanding their business and paid him little attention,
so for over twenty years, he had navigated the world’s challenges on his own.
Just the day before, he had set out to explore a mysterious, hidden cavern.
Inside that cave, he had stumbled upon a crystal coffin, intricately engraved with enigmatic symbols and ancient illustrations!
A crystal coffin was an incredible find—not just in the ancient world, but even in modern times, the cost of creating such an object would be astronomical.
Driven by intense curiosity, Su Lin had spent hours examining it.
Utilizing his extensive exploration experience and his university background in archaeology, he managed to decipher fragments of the text on the casket.
Yet, the phrases were disconnected and confusing.
He saw words like “Ice Age,” “great changes in heaven and earth,” “species evolution,” and “Divine Demons resurgence.”
The mental strain of deciphering the script must have been too much; as Su Lin prepared to depart, his vision blurred, and he collapsed into a dead faint.
He never could have imagined that falling asleep would lead to being reborn!
And to be reborn as a wolf, of all things!
He raised a snowy white paw and gave himself a sharp smack.
“Slap!”
The sting was real.
Feeling the genuine pain, Su Lin’s expression darkened.
“Have I really become a wolf? A tiny Arctic wolf? Heavens, why play this joke on me? My life was only just starting!”
Despite Su Lin’s internal cries and protests, nothing changed.
He was undeniably a wolf, a newborn Arctic wolf.
Fortunately, having grown up in isolation, Su Lin possessed a resilient spirit and strong adaptability. It didn’t take long for him to accept his new reality.
However, just as he was coming to terms with his situation,
suddenly,
a translucent grey screen—visible only to him—materialized before his eyes.
Name: Su Lin. Species: Arctic Wolf. Level: 0 (requires 10 Evolution Points to level up). Qi-Blood: 10. Endurance: 1. Strength: 1. Defense: 1. Speed: 1. Evolution Points: 0.
[Devouring Evolution activated successfully. Host receives activation reward: Ten Potential Potions (can be used to develop personal potential).]
“What is this?”
Staring at the pale grey interface that had appeared out of thin air,
Su Lin was initially shocked, but then a glimmer of hope sparked in his heart.
Perhaps his situation wasn't entirely hopeless.
He might be a wolf cub, but he had been granted a golden finger.
Even if he couldn't become human again through evolution,
at the very least, his chances of surviving in the frozen Arctic had just skyrocketed.
“Devouring Evolution... that suggests I can grow stronger by eating things in the future. As for Qi-Blood...”
Su Lin began to scrutinize the various stats on his attribute panel.
Qi-Blood on the screen was clearly his Life Points.
If that number hit 0, it would mean his death.
Endurance represented his Physical Strength and stamina.
Strength governed his physical power and Attack Power.
Speed, of course, related to his movement and reaction times.
Overall, the system was quite intuitive and easy to grasp.
The Potential Potion also came with a brief description,
explaining it as a miraculous substance capable of unlocking the hidden potential of his body.
After analyzing his assets, Su Lin finally began to shake off the gloom of his rebirth.
At that moment, regaining his composure, he lifted his cute, snow-white head and looked up at the Wolf Mother who held him close.
Suddenly, the Wolf Mother’s own attribute panel flashed before his eyes.
Species: Arctic Wolf (Female). Level: 4. Qi-Blood: 432. Endurance: 42. Strength: 39. Defense: 37. Speed: 35.
It was obvious that the Wolf Mother’s stats were vastly superior to his own.
This appeared to be the standard level for an adult female Arctic wolf.
Wriggling out from under her paw, Su Lin climbed unsteadily onto her belly to scan the rest of the den.
He noticed several other Arctic wolves scattered around, sleeping to conserve their energy.
It confirmed that wolves were indeed social creatures.
Right beside the Wolf Mother, in the most prominent position, lay the Wolf Father.
After checking every wolf in sight, Su Lin realized the Wolf Father possessed the highest attributes in the entire cave.
Furthermore, given that the Wolf Father and Mother occupied the center of the cave where the sunlight reached,
it was highly likely that the Wolf Father was the Alpha of the pack.
Species: Arctic Wolf (Male). Level: 6. Qi-Blood: 589. Endurance: 68. Strength: 59. Defense: 57. Speed: 60.
These were the stats of the Wolf Father.
They far exceeded the Wolf Mother’s, marking him as an exceptional specimen even among male wolves.
“Awoooo.”
Just as Su Lin was planning to use his tiny paws to crawl toward the cave entrance to see the world outside, the Wolf Mother stirred.
She spotted the cub clumsy scrambling over her and let out a soft, warning growl before using her paw to pull him back into her warmth.
It was then that Su Lin noticed another small female cub in her embrace, looking even tinier than him—likely his Wolf Sister.
At that moment, the Wolf Sister was nursing with great enthusiasm.
Seeing her eat so hungrily, Su Lin suddenly felt a wave of starvation wash over him.
Though his human mind felt a bit of resistance, he couldn't fight the primal instincts of his new body.
He moved closer and began to feed alongside his sister.
“Ding! Consuming Arctic Wolf Mother’s Milk, Evolution Points +0.1!”
The sound of the system notification, combined with the sweet flavor on his tongue, caused Su Lin’s small wolf eyes to widen with excitement.
