A massive, diamond-encased ant shattered the rock barrier, emerging into the Krath's trap chamber with gleaming eyes and savage mandibles. As the slugs unleashed a deluge of potent acidic mucus, the ant pressed forward undeterred, its carapace sizzling but unyielding, then retaliated with scorching flames that incinerated the slime and threatened to cook the Krath alive. Despite their desperate assaults, the ant deployed a crushing domain of oppressive gravity, flattening the warriors and immobilizing them, before telepathically declaring its intent to capture prisoners while snickering at their helplessness.

Letting myself get fully soaked in that ultra-strong acidic slime might not have been my smartest move ever, but things turned out okay in the end. Luckily, my shell is incredibly tough, and the regeneration system activated right when the Krath began their assault on me. As hundreds of them hurled acid my way, the restorative liquid surged into action fast.

I suppose I got a tad too cocky about my ability to handle the mana corruption, so much so that I overlooked the genuine threat of getting buried in acid. Naturally, the Pure Core excelled at absorbing the rogue mana spreading through my form—full credit there—but man, I could've skipped the gooey soak entirely.

Having taken care of most of the Krath, I ensure my prisoners are thoroughly squished and can't twitch a single part before I stroll through the cavern areas spacious enough for my size. Honestly, there aren't many. Solant figured these advance bases were freshly constructed by the Krath, not ancient tribal dens. The passages are mostly tight and confining, with sleeping quarters that look like what the Colony might choose for rest. I can't picture cramming in so snugly did wonders for those notorious slug moods.

This novel's true home is a different platform. Support the author by finding it there.

Hey, upon a closer look, it turns out every slug had its own small nook for sleeping. Perhaps that made a difference?

I'm somewhat let down by the lack of an egg batch around here. With this zone about to be inundated, we'd have gained extra chal. I enjoy those tiny snails; they appear lively, and the more, the better, as the saying goes. Ah well, no luck there.

Hauling the slugs toward the secure area proves a bit challenging. I must shift them without letting them burst like spiteful bubbles. Clearly, I can't simply smash them into the earth—that doesn't align well with relocating them. In the end, I put my minds to work and employ a gravity field to levitate them while simultaneously pulling them apart gently.

It's tough at first, but it functions perfectly once I master the technique.

With several Krath drifting in my wake, I leave behind the wreckage of the old slug base and begin the trek back to the secure zone.

I've got one final task out here: reshaping the passages to reverse the alterations the slugs made. It consumes a good deal of time as I search around to uncover all their tricks. Concealed mucus pools, subtle drain vents, permeable barriers, and various other gimmicks. Besides the hidden features, they'd also plainly sealed off routes, gouged huge gaps in the bottoms of some, and excavated enormous rooms to store the liquid mana, dissipating it via what looked like custom-bred beasts.

These creatures couldn't ingest or transform the cleansed power, instead expelling huge quantities of dense sludge. Lacking mobility, limbs, or even basic senses, I doubt these beings could endure without the Krath tending to them.

Resembling a heap of damp workout gear, the beasts featured just two openings: one for intake, and the other for... releasing the slime.

I guess that counted as a method of resistance, in a way.

Once every route is fixed and the covert gaps sealed, I head cheerfully back to the secure zone, dragging my prisoners along. A swift and effective venture, if I pat myself on the back. I'd figured it would be harder, yet my evolution keeps delivering benefits that surpass my greatest expectations.

The fifth? Piece of cake! Gweheheheheh!

Three additional bases await my attention before I descend into the lower levels to deliver the ultimate strike against the Krath tribes. Man, I can barely contain my excitement.
