Beast Taming: Starting From Zero Chapter 923: Breezewing Nini

A few wild pet beasts poked their heads out, watching the scene before them with longing.

They were all familiar with the light of evolution.

Mikayla stood nearby, unmoving as the wild beasts appeared from the shadows.

She could tell, they had no intention of interrupting the evolution.

Time passed second by second, yet the white light showed no sign of fading.

It only continued to expand, the silhouette within shifting form at a painstakingly slow pace.

Qiao Sang couldn’t help but show a hint of worry.

“I heard that Legendary Beasts awaken fragments of their past memories every time they evolve.” Mikayla said as she walked closer, pretending to make a casual guess.

“Do you think Qingqing Ni’s slow evolution means she’s awakening her memories?”

At those words, Qiao Sang blinked, then relaxed slightly.

That’s right, she had read something like that before in one of the books she borrowed from Yulianton University’s library.

It mentioned that certain extraordinarily gifted beasts inherited fragments of their ancient memories each time they evolved, helping guide them to higher realms of power.

Thinking that, Qiao Sang nodded.

“That must be it.”

, Mikayla thought, though she didn’t say it aloud. Instead, she said: “Once Qingqing Ni completes her evolution, you can rest for the night. I’ll take the watch.”

Qingqing Ni’s evolution made her realize they’d already stayed in this secret realm long enough.

It was time to wrap up the mission and bring in the Imperial Beast University team to recheck Qingbao’s evolved form and refine a new energy pill.

“With how you keep sending Sleepbird out to fight, I wouldn’t sleep soundly anyway.” Qiao Sang refused.

“No need. I’m used to staying up.”

“You’ve barely rested in over forty days.” Mikayla pressed.

“Don’t you want a proper night’s sleep?”

Qiao Sang replied softly, “More than sleep, I want safety.”

Mikayla fell silent.

For a moment, she wondered if she had been too passive in fights, so much that her student didn’t feel safe even with her there.

Then again, Qiao Sang always managed to handle crises before Mikayla could even react.

Suddenly...

“Burrow!”

A thought flashed, and the Burrow Rat burst from the ground, looking panicked as it squeaked urgently.

Qiao Sang instantly tensed.

“Xun xun!”

Little Treasure’s expression hardened as he focused on the ground ahead.

“I’ll handle it!” Mikayla stepped forward, her voice low and firm.

“Hidden Shield!”

After a brief silence, a terrifying, invisible force slammed down, shattering the earth behind the Burrow Rat completely!

All the wild beasts watching scattered in terror.

Boom! Boom! Boom!

The collapsing ground roared as a cat-like pet beast, about fifty centimeters long and yellow-brown in color, was struck by the shockwave and sent flying with a shriek, then crashed back down like a falling star, unconscious.

“Burrow…”

The Burrow Rat let out a breath of relief.

Then, realizing something, it turned toward Mikayla’s confused “What just happened?” look, gave her a thumbs-up, and dove back underground.

Earth-Sand Meow, a Beginner-level Ground-type beast, natural enemy of the Burrow Rat.

The info flashed through Qiao Sang’s mind as she glanced silently at Mikayla.

For a moment, the scene fell into awkward silence.

“What happened?”

A startled voice broke it.

Guo Ruiqi crawled out of his sleeping bag, glancing around warily at the mess.

“Nothing.” Qiao Sang replied.

“Just took care of a wild beast.”

Mikayla’s posture was still a bit stiff, she said nothing.

Hearing that, Guo Ruiqi relaxed.

Then his eyes caught the dazzling white light in the distance.

“A beast is evolving?” He asked in surprise, eyes wide.

The white brilliance was so bright it completely hid the pet beast’s form.

“Yes.” Qiao Sang said simply.

“Which beast?” Guo Ruiqi asked, curious.

In all his time in this secret realm, he’d only seen wild evolutions a few times.

“Qingqing Ni.” Qiao Sang said.

Guo Ruiqi’s face went from stunned to thrilled to overjoyed in seconds.

Realizing what this meant, he scrambled into his sleeping bag, fumbling for his phone.

He turned it on, opened the camera, and pointed it toward the glowing light.

His hands trembled with excitement as he held the phone.

Qiao Sang noticed and said calmly, “Send me a copy after you’re done recording.”

“Of course!” Guo Ruiqi answered immediately.

After about ten seconds, the white light finally began to fade.

Qiao Sang exhaled softly.

Mikayla turned her gaze toward it.

Guo Ruiqi’s breath quickened, his heartbeat racing.

Wind began to swirl gently around the fading light.

Though the night was cold and biting, this wind somehow carried a faint warmth.

Then, the white light completely dispersed.

A small beast about forty centimeters tall appeared before them, snow-white all over, wearing what looked like a hat made of soft clouds.

From beneath it, two green-tipped antennae peeked out.

Around her neck was a fluffy white cloud scarf.

Her eyes were pure aqua blue, and her lower body was wrapped in even more billowy white clouds.

Breezewing Nini, Qingqing Ni’s evolved form.

Qiao Sang stared at Qingbao’s new form, an odd thought flashing through her mind:

“Qing qing!”

Qingbao chirped happily, the wind around her scattering like flowing air currents.

Even the atmosphere felt fresher at that moment.

“Xun~”

Little Treasure floated in circles around Qingbao, celebrating with pure joy.

From Qiao Sang’s backpack, Lubao peeked out, seeing Qingbao’s successful evolution, she relaxed and tucked her head back inside.

“Breezewing Nini…” Guo Ruiqi murmured in awe.

He suddenly felt that everything he had endured in this secret realm was worth it.

“Qing qing~”

“Xun~”

Qingbao and Little Treasure spun in the air, laughing together.

Then Qingbao suddenly stopped, blinking at Little Treasure.

“Qing qing?”

She chirped softly, basically saying,

“Xun~”

Little Treasure blinked, then answered sincerely:

“Qing qing~”

Qingbao laughed brightly, and the wind around them danced again.

Then she floated to her Beast Master and tilted her head upward, gazing at her with pure, gentle eyes.

Qiao Sang seemed to understand.

She reached out and patted the cloud on Qingbao’s head, it felt soft and warm in her palm.

“Congratulations on evolving.” She said gently.

“Qing qing~”

Qingbao’s eyes curved like crescent moons.

“Qingbao’s evolution is complete.” Qiao Sang said, turning to the others.

“You all can sleep now. I’ll keep watch.”

“After witnessing Qingbao’s evolution, how can we possibly sleep?!” Guo Ruiqi said, too thrilled to hold back.

For the first time, he talked back to Qiao Sang.

Mikayla, remembering her mentor role, quickly nodded in agreement.

“We’re not sleeping either.”

Qiao Sang glanced at Mikayla, recalling her earlier display of power, her opinion of her improved slightly.

Then she looked at Qingbao again.

“Are you tired?”

“Qing qing!”

Qingbao shook her head energetically.

Qiao Sang thought for a moment, then said to Mikayla: “Then you take first watch. I’ll rest for ten minutes.”

Still, Mikayla nodded.

“Alright.”

Guo Ruiqi assumed Senior Qiao was just emotionally overwhelmed after Qingbao’s evolution and needed a short break.

He realized he felt the same way and sat down.

“I’ll rest for ten minutes too…”

Then he just sat still, staring at Qingbao.

Meanwhile, Qiao Sang closed her eyes, her consciousness entering the Beast Codex.

The page flipped, quickly landing on Qingbao’s entry.

---

Qiao Sang’s mind went blank for a second.

After the initial shock, excitement and disbelief surged in Qiao Sang’s chest.

Qingbao’s talent was already extraordinary, but awakening this many high-tier traits right after evolving?

That had to be thanks to the Fairy Heart gifted by Qinfeng Yunren.

Qiao Sang took a deep breath to steady herself, then looked down at the data again.

With three new Fairy-type skills awakened, her heart finally settled.

Draining Kiss, a high-tier Fairy skill, absorbs the foe’s energy through a kiss to restore its own.

Finger Command, a high-tier Fairy skill, triggers a random known move through focus.

Charming Voice, a mid-tier Fairy skill, deals mental damage and confusion with a captivating cry.

All three newly awakened skills were Fairy-type.

Qiao Sang read over Qingbao’s data again, then opened her eyes.

Her consciousness returned to reality.

“Feeling better?” Mikayla asked.

“Yes.” Qiao Sang stood.

“Since no one’s sleeping, let’s keep moving.”

Mikayla nodded.

“Agreed. We should head out soon, Breezewing Nini just evolved.”

“I’m ready too!” Guo Ruiqi said brightly, his exhaustion completely gone.

They packed up, checked their tools, and headed toward the dense forest ahead.

The night was deep.

Qiao Sang held Yabao in her arms, his fiery wings lighting their path.

After placing a fragment of the Leaf Stone on the ground, the three hid behind some tall grass.

“Qing qing~”

Qingbao turned into wind, sweeping over the Leaf Stone fragment and spreading its energy outward.

Silence.

Qiao Sang waited patiently.

About five minutes later, rustling came from all around.

Dozens of small, twenty-centimeter beasts, purple and green like ripened fruit, leapt down from the treetops.

Soon, more wild beasts appeared in the distance, drawn by the energy.

But when they saw those fruit-like creatures, they froze, then hesitated, fear flickering in their eyes.

Watching the growing swarm of fruit beasts hopping down from the trees, Qiao Sang suddenly remembered something and her heart clenched.

They were extremely territorial, offend one, and the entire colony would hun you down.

Fruit Sprayers, dual-type Poison/Grass Beginner-level beasts.

They could release a toxic liquid that made people’s hair fall out and beasts lose their fur.

And when cornered, they went berserk, spraying all their built-up venom in a suicidal explosion.
